How To Do A Puffy Bun Without Teasing/Back Combing – Hair Tutorial

I love big buns (and I cannot lie… >_>) but sometimes it’s nice to be able to wear them without teasing/backcombing. Some people aren’t fans of backcombing because it doesn’t suit every hair type and it can be damaging. It’s good to take a break from damaging things!

How To Plait and Looped Plait Classic Hairstyle Tutorial

I’m back from Queensland and getting back into the swing of everything! This week I’ve got some big announcements as well as some competitions coming up but let’s kick things off with a hair tutorial :D

Looped plaits are a really versatile style because they go with a lot of different fashion looks. I really love these with classic Lolita styled outfits but they can be dressed up or down and worn with just about anything.

And the video:

Seeing as this is a fairly easy style I thought I would show you the basics of how to plait as well. Start with brushed hair.   Divide it in half, we’ll be plaiting each side.   Have two hair ties ready, I usually just keep them on my wrist so I don’t have to search around for them later.   Divide the first half into three sections. I’ve labeled them and colour coded so you you can see how they move in the photos. Take section #1 on the left and move it over #2 so it’s now in the center.   Now take section #3 and move it over the top of #1 so it now becomes the middle piece. Basically you do this over and over again, taking the left section then moving it to the center, then the right to the center, then the left, the right, the left etc until you run out of hair. So the next step would be to take #2 and move it to the center over the top of #3. You’ll start to see this pattern forming:     I suggest if you’re just learning to plait to try doing it on someone else first or use pieces of ribbon until you understand the basic hand motions. It’s much easier to understand it when you can see what you’re doing! And just continue that until you reach the end then tie off.   Now the looping part of this style! Take the end of the plait and make a loop by holding it just behind your ear.   Like this:   Pin it in place, you may need a few pins crossing over to hold it in place. The easiest way to secure it is to push a few of the pins through the hair tie so they don’t slip out later.   Don’t forget the other side!   Once you have repeated on the other side give it a blast of hairspray. To make them a bit bigger you can gently pull the sides of the plait to separate them.   Easy!   Now you just need to add some cute accessories and you’re all finished. This style looks great with an alice band or some clips on the side. Hope that was helpful!

Side Swept Beach Hair Tutorial

I’m getting ready to go to Queensland this week so have an early hair tutorial ;)

Queensland is putting me in a beachy mood so what better than a one sided hairstyle? It reminds  me a bit of a mermaid ^_^

So start with brushed hair. This looks especially great with waved hair or curls.   Decide which side you want the hair brushed over to and grab the other side. Brush it over to the other side. Surprise XD   This looks best with a really deep part line.   Like this:   At the back, grab the hair at the bottom.   Twist it upwards like this:   Pin it in place. Make sure you place one of the bobby pins right in the twist and one in an X shape with it. This is the strongest way to hold pins together. I think I need to do a bobby pin basics tutorial because a lot of people tend to have problems with them.   It should look roughly like this. Now your hair will stay over one side all day without you constantly having to flick it every time the stupid wind at the beach decides to blow the other way. You can also use this as a base to add decorations and flowers.   From the front it’s pretty plain though…   So grab a small section of hair in front of your ear and fold it backwards. Don’t pull it tight, this is a relaxed style. Pin it in place and add a decoration like a hibiscus flower or something else nice and beachy. Fluff out the rest of your hair so it’s very full. Easy and perfect for the beach!   Like!   Now I just have to actually go to a beach… Ok! I’ve got to get back to packing, see you all in Queensland!

How To Do Messy Curled Buns – Hairstyle Tutorial

Today’s hairstyle is one of my favorites: a messy curly bun :D

This style works really well with super cute outfits and is surprisingly easy to do.

Here is the video version:

Start with brushed hair.

Curl your hair, the more you curl the puffier the buns will be. The method of curling doesn’t make a difference but I prefer to use a straightener.   Through the magic of the internet mine magically curled itself! WIN! I wish the internet did my hair every morning >_>   Now pull your hair up into pigtails just above your ear.   Mess up the curls so they get super puffy. You can also hairspray at this point to give it extra hold!   Now grab the top half of the pony tail.   And scrunch it upwards in your fist. Hold it up above the band at your scalp and pin in place.   Once it’s pinned it should look something like this. The style is messy and unpredictable so it will probably look different every time you do it!   Now grab the left over hair. Scrunch it up to sit under the band.   Pin that in place too!   And from the side: Don’t forget to do the other side too!   Give the whole style a blast of hairspray. And that’s it! Much simpler than it looks!   This style looks great with bows or alice bands. It’s a fun style and good in hot weather! Hope you have a good weekend!

How To Do A Big Puffy Bun Bear Ear Hairstyle… Thing

This week’s video is a tutorial on how to do some puffy bear/Minni Mouse/whatever you want to call it ears ^_^

The new video set up is quite fun to film in but the natural light coming through the back can make lighting very frustrating. It changes as the sun reflects off different buildings making even white balancing annoying. I love it so much but because of that I don’t think I’ll be able to film there often >_< Now I need to work out where I can film that’s not going to be effected by the stupid windows. Who knew having natural light would be a bad thing in this situation! (I can hear James saying “I told you so!”)

How To Do Temporary Hair Colour With Pastels

It’s been a really crazy week and between everything else I’ve been getting the next batch of these hair tutorials ready. Today’s tutorial is something that might help those of you thinking of dying your hair a crazy colour. I get quite a few comments and emails every saying “I want to do my hair like yours but I can’t because of school/work/something else”. Well this is a great way to see if it looks good before you commit or do it for the weekend and then wash it out before Monday!

So you want to try out crazy colours but without the commitment? Using artist’s chalk pastels is perfect for this! I’ve done previous posts about using Illamasqua’s Pigments in the same way too if you happen to have some of those. They’re cheap and easy to use and the colour sits very naturally in the hair without being crunchy or gross like some other temporary colours. Once it’s in and set you can just style as usual!   The hardest part is deciding what colour to choose! I picked a purplish pink a bit darker than my regular pink so you could see it a bit better in my hair. I think I want to try doing some purple and blue streaks in my pink too!   So you need a pastel and also a piece of cardboard so you can cover the other hair up.   Section the piece of hair you want to colour.   Put the cardboard under it to protect the other hair.   Then just draw the pastel over all of the hair. Don’t forget the ends.   And the underneath as well.   Give it a quick blast with the hairspray to seal it all in.   Then just give it a brush through so it sits well with the rest of your hair and looks natural. OMG IT WORKED! And when you’re done being pink/purple/blue/whatever you can just wash your hair and be back to normal! And yes before you ask, you can do this on dark hair too. Pastels are generally opaque so as long as you pick a nice bright colour you should be good to go!   Go forth and enjoy being as crazy and creative as you want to with the knowledge you can wash it all out in the morning! How To Do A Plaited Headband With A Pouf Hairstyle Tutorial

Hair tutorial time again :D I am pretty happy with how regularly I’ve been able to get these done, the new set up makes me so much more motivated. Now I just need to finalise my video set up with some new lighting and I’ll be set!

Today I’m showing a basic small pouf style with two plaited headbands.

Start with clean brushed hair.

Pull out a small piece of hair from the nape of your neck.

Now plait down the whole length of the hair and tie off.

Repeat with another piece of hair on the other side of your head.

Put those to the side of the moment while we make the pouf.

Pull a large section of hair up from the top of your head.

Pull it forward on an angle and then use your brush to lightly tease/back comb the back of the section.

Now fold it backwards gently so the pouf is as high as you like and pin in place. I like to shape it with my hands so it’s nice and round. You can fluff it up with your fingers too. If you don’t like the shape just pull it up and start again.

Now grab one of the little plaits and pull it up and over your head to the other side. It should sit at the part between fringe/bangs and pouf. You can pull the side bits of hair behind the plait for a smooth look or leave them in front for a soft look. Pin the plait on the other side of your head, mine reaches just behind my ear but as long as it goes over half way you should be fine.

Now pull the other plait to the other side. it should cover the end of the first plait. Tuck the end of it under the first plait and pin in place.

If the ends are really obvious then pin a little of your loose hair over the top. Give the whole thing a burst of hairspray.

And that’s it! I like to curl the ends of the loose hair so it’s a very floaty soft look but I think it works really well straight too.

Vintage Rolled Vintage Hairstyle Photo Tutorial

Yay for more hairstyles :D This one is a big rolled vintagey style. I did a video on this one quite a while ago which is at the bottom of the post along with the downloadable version!

Let’s get into it, start with brushed hair.

You will need a hair sausage or something which can be put in the middle of the roll to pad it out. I did a tutorial a while ago on how to make your own sausage so check that out over here.

Start by brushing your hair backwards leaving a small section on either side of your face.

Decide roughly where you want the end result to sit on your head.

Gently hold the hair up like this:

If you don’t have a hair sausage you can use pretty much anything in that shape. Even a couple of clean socks rolled up will do ;)

Flip the ends of the hair over the sausage like this:

Gently roll the sausage and hair towards your head.

And it should end up like this:

Fluff out the sides so it covers the sausage completely. Pin it in place using bobby pins.

Now give it a a decent helping of hair spray.

Next curl the sections of hair you left down at the front.

You can leave them down like this as a softer version of the look.

Otherwise you can just fold the hair up so it follows the same curve of the roll and pin in place. It should hide the ends of the sausage completely.

Now just style your fringe.

As a finishing touch I like to add a some flowers at the top of the roll or a string of pearls.

All done!

This is a great style for summer as it keeps the hair off your neck.

Side Ponytail With A Twist and Pink School OOTD

It feels like I’ve been doing a lot of outfit videos lately but they are so much fun! I feel like you can get a better sense of how an outfit really works in a video.

Today’s is a pink school-ish number. I wore it when James’ parents were visiting. We played pool and I cheated won fairly because of my awesome skill.

An easy hair tutorial too, this one is good for summer and even better if you like braids but can’t work out how to do them around the head! It’s a basic side ponytail but the back is all twisted!

Using a Crimper For Volume and Lazy Day Make Up

It’s really starting to warm up here. The hotter it gets, the lazier I get XD

Inspired by that, here is my ultimate lazy day make up!

And in another lazy-ish style, here’s how I use a crimper to get some volume at the top of my head. It’s easy and it lasts really well. Good alternative to teasing for simple styles!

And as if that wasn’t enough, here’s the laziest vlog ever :D We went to Werribee Open Range Zoo so here are some super cute animals! You know how much I love Meerkats!

12 School Friendly Hairstyles and Rose Garden OOTD

The first video today is another request. I get many comments and emails asking for school appropriate hairstyles and looks. It’s a bit hard to answer because every school has different rules. When I was at school the thing I worried about the most was sleeping in slightly more XD With that in mind I made a video with 12 different styles which are quick, simple and don’t require much explanation. Really they’re basic styles just jazzed up a bit using hair accessories. Really, accessories are the key here to make these plain looks more interesting!

Next up is a rose themed outfit of the day video. I really enjoy making these :D We filmed this one in the state rose garden, so pretty there!

Spotted OOTD and a Braided Mini Ponytail

Phew it’s been a big week this week!

First video in an OOTD, this one features one of the dresses I got from DreamV. I think I might take it apart and make it a shirt/skirt combo because it’s a bit big and long as a dress so I can’t wear it without a belt :D

And another OOTD which features a pink formal gown I was sent. I feel like a princess in it XD

Next is  a hair tutorial which was originally  in an OOTD post and was requested. It’s a mini high ponytail with a braid leading up to it.

And a while ago our family all came to visit at once. My Mum lives in Melbourne but all of James’ family plus my Dad came down on the same weekend. Many hijinks ensued XD

First up my favorite video of all time because it features Miss Lottie!

This tutorial has been requested for aaaages and honestly I’m not sure why I didn’t do it earlier, it’s so easy XD So here’s my all time favorite hairstyle, the big curly one sided thing… it really needs a catchier name -_-’

This week I played with the first set of Kiss Nail Stickers which were given to me by the lovely Sefie! I preferred these to the other vinyl ones I’ve tried which had a tendency to peel off and the designs are very blingy :D

Following on form Zombies last week, here is the behind the scenes video! It’s pretty funny, well the dancing is XD This is what usually happens on our photo shoots haha!

Faux Bob Hairstyle For Long Hair Photo Tutorial

First up today an update on the Bunny store. Unfortunately I’ve had to push the launch back a while as currently the shipping quotes I’ve gotten are quite high. Aus Post have quoted $11.55 for non-registered overseas airmail which I think is quite high when you add that to the cost of the little Bergamots. So I’m looking at other options and possibly having them made somewhere else and shipped there to keep the costs down. I’m not sure at the moment but I’m still working on it and looking into other options because I don’t think there’s much point putting them up if most of you guys can’t afford them *_* So short story is that the launch will be pushed back into the new year but will still be happening! Let me know if you have any suggestions.

In the mean time here’s a hair tutorial.

Ages ago I did a little video tutorial on making a faux bob hair style for long hair, I promised a follow up photo version and here it is!

Here’s the video version too incase you missed it…You need: Hair ties Brush Bobby pins Hair spray Brush out and separate your hair into two sections. Tie them with the hair bands around half way down. Pull each ponytail backwards so the hair slips through a bit. This will make the front parts in the end result longer in the front than the back.     Curl the ends of the ponytail into a little loop. Keep rolling upwards until you can’t go any further and you should have something like this: From the side it will bow out and form a nice finish underneath.   From the front it looks like a curl. So now you need to pin it in place. You should try to pin through the hair band to give it extra strength. Make sure you’re pinning it as close to the scalp as possible. Repeat on the other side too. Now you need to take care of the back, right now it looks terrible. Take your brush and gently coax the divide together so it hides the gap. You can use your fingers and a few extra bobby pins at the bottom to keep it all in place. This version isn’t so great but you can get the general idea… Now you just need to style your fringe and any layers around your face. The style works better with layers around the face because they create an illusion of being the ends of the hair. Taadaa! Short hair without a major chop :D Hope this was helpful, let me know if you have any questions!

Sleek French Twist Hair Tutorial

WOOHOO INTERNET AGAIN! Uploading a bunch of videos and things as I type this and seeing as all of my scheduled posts didn’t actually go live while I was away I’ve got plenty of stuff to post :D I’m too happy to even rant about the crappy TPG service. Saving that rant for later ;)

So let’s start with a hair tutorial!

Back when I did a tutorial on making this lace and learn hair comb a lot of comments were asking for a hair tutorial on the style.

I did a video tutorial on it already over here but for those who can’t watch or prefer photos here’s one of those too ^_^

So what you need: Brush Pretty hair comb Hair spray Bobby pin Brush your hair out to the back and towards one side. Stick a bobby pin to hold it in place like this, it will act like a crease to help the hair fold in the right place and look very neat. Brush the hair upwards to it’s sticking out horizontally. Now use your hands to fold it across like this: Tuck all of the ends inside and fold them into the roll. Should look something like this. You should run your fingers through the sides from right to left to make sure the hair is all sitting the right way.   Once it’s all folded inside it should look something like this: Secure it with a comb on the side. To use the comb you should grab a bit of hair from the twist… …pull it right to the side and push into the scalp back the way it came. And it looks like this! You might want to put in some more bobby pins if you don’t think it’s stable enough.   Most likely you’ll need some pins in the top swirl part to stop it coming loose. Hair spray over everything and smooth flyaways with your hands. If you have any problems with the insides breaking out again just lightly brush the outer layer into place again using short strokes.   Now just style your fringe and that’s it! All done! I didn’t notice the bit popping out until after I finished >_<     Other side: Stylish and sleek, this is a good one for work as well as times you just want to look a bit more polished. How To Colour Synthetic Hair Extensions

So yesterday I talked about dyeing real hair, today it’s about synthetic! I seem to have a problem accumulating hair extensions… but they never actually match my hair colour >_< For example recently I was part of a test group for some Lady Jane extensions but none of them matched my hair at all. So for years I’ve been searching for a way to dye synthetic extensions different colours. Everywhere I looked said that it wasn’t possible because synthetic hair isn’t poreous like real hair so dye doesn’t take… you know what does take though?

Permanent markers…So after yesterday’s fun with the dye it was time to have some more colourful fun! All of the ones I got were curly so I first straightened them all out. These ones are able to be used with styling tools but double check yours are if you’re going to try this because having melted extensions=really sucky. Pick out the colours you want to use, I used a mixture of Sharpies and Copic markers in various shades to do a gradient…. surprise ;) Start coloring in from the tips, switch markers often and use light strokes so they blend together well. Keep adding more colours until you’re at the top, use the lightest colour to blend them together. And you end up with something like this. Make sure it dries properly then you can give it a brush through and style it as normal. The pens coloured but didn’t leave any residue so it’s effectively just like dying. I even heat styled them after with no problem at all. I made mine more on the orange side so they blended in with the colour of the extensions better. I’m considering going over the entire things with pink to darken them even more. Of course you can’t make dark extensions lighter but this is a fun way to make use of extensions you probably wouldn’t otherwise be able to use. I’m going to curl the hell out of these and make them into a gigantic hair piece to add to up dos for extra variation and volume. Photos when I finish it! So there you go, it is posible to colour synthetic hair extension just not with traditional methods ^_^

How To Do An Overhead Plaited Spring Hairstyle Video Tutorial

Monday means video time ^_^ Today is another hair tutorial, next up are some nail art ones using the new set up that I’m really excited about.

This video is a companion piece to the Overhead Summer Plait style tutorial I posted while ago over here. Hopefully it clears up some of the questions that were asked about the original and makes it easier to see what’s going on! I love this style for Spring/Summer but it looks great with fuzzy ear muffs and a scarf in Winter too.

I’m really enjoying making these videos so if you guys have any requests or there are old tutorials you want me to remake in video form to clarify instructions just let me know in the comments! I have had a couple of requests for vlog kind of things where I talk but I don’t know if that would actually be interesting or if I would even have enough to say to not just have several minutes of silence XD

How I Dye My Pink Hair Ombre Gradient Thing…

Yet another “long time coming” post, I promise I’m trying to catch up!

Ombré, gradient, two tone, incredibly stupid looking, call it what you like, people have been asking about my hair ever since I did it. I’ve always been really hesitant in providing instructions etc because I’m not a hair dresser, I’m not a colour expert and I also don’t want to be responsible for people giving it a try and not being happy with the results *_*

So rather than an actual tutorial this is more of a post that I can direct people to if they are really interested in how I do it. I’m not suggesting that people try this at all because it depends on the type of dye you use, your hair type and a lot of other factors so please talk to a hair dresser before you do anything!

My hair is made up of 3 colours: blonde, pink and copper. This is my routine:

• I bleach my roots maybe once a month (or leave it longer if I’m lazy/feel like wearing a lot of hats). I use a pre-colour stripper and do not use toner so it retains that orange tone which blends well with the other two colours. They’ve just discontinued the bleach that I use so not sure which brand I will be changing to at the moment >_<
• The copper tips were originally achieved through a Schwarzcopf 8 wash colour (Aztec Copper) which never… washed out. I had planned on touching this up once a month too but it’s been a very long time and it’s still in there so I’ll probably only touch up  when it needs it. The pink only tints the copper area slightly so it provides a nice backdrop and a nice variation in the colour.
• The pink is done once a week, or if I’m feeling lazy once every few weeks. At the beginning I did it every 4 days but that was too much effort/expensive so I have since scaled back. The dye I use is called Wakk Stain but it’s not something I would recommend. For a few months I thought it was drying out my hair like crazy but the cause ended up being a hair treatment that wasn’t suited to my hair type, even still I probably wouldn’t recommend this dye because it washes out so quickly. The fact that it does wash out so quickly and doesn’t stain skin is perfect for my needs at the moment though because it makes it easier to move around into the correct place, goes on quickly and can be removed if you make a mistake. I think Priceline has stopped selling this now too anyway (or at least the ones near me have) so I will be experimenting with other dyes in the next few months.

How To Do A Double Bun Hairstyle Video

This week is shaping up to be a week full of videos I think! Today is the last video Celeste and I made before I upgraded all my lighting so be prepared for awesomeness to come ^_^ I’ve finally finished my crochet bunny tutorial with the video too so that will be up mid week YAY! I really can’t wait to post some of the ones I’ve been working on because the quality is finally something I’m happy about XD

Buuuut back on topic. Today’s video with Celeste is all about the double hair buns. I did a tutorial on double buns quite a while ago but again somethings are easier to understand in video so hopefully this is helpful.

Again imagine this conversation going on:

Violet: I really like this style on you.

Celeste: You think? I bet if James had hair you would play with it all the time.

Violet: Yeah  but I imagine he would shave it just to avoid me doing this to him!

Celeste: You’ve just got to catch him while he’s sleeping and glue a wig on!

Violet: Ooooh that’s not a bad idea!

Celeste: Hime-wig-James!!!

Violet: Double bun James!!

James: *silently plans to return to Russia and never come back*

Curly Gyaru Updo Hairstyle Tutorial With Celeste

After the fun we had last post I decided I would share all of the videos Celeste and I made the last time she was here. After finishing up with her Hime style squid hair we decided to give one of my favorite styles a try: big curly one sided up do thingy covered in flowers. Catchy name yes?

I will be doing a lot of these videos again as proper tutorials once I get Sophie back from the laptop fixing place because James has set me up a fancy new video area with nice lighting and a backdrop.  Celeste is coming back soon so we can do more together too!

Again no talking, just music so feel free to imagine this conversation in the background:

Violet: I think this style is kind of Marie Antoinette-ish at least that era. Well maybe not in a really historically accurate way but still pretty.

Celeste: Pft very pretty. Almost as pretty as Nyan cat!

Violet: Hahaha! James has been trying to play that all morning on his guitar>_<

Celeste: I wonder if I could get my school band to play?

Violet: Nyan orchestra! So cute!

How To Style a Hime Gyaru Wig

As carrying on from yesterdays post on Fashion Addict here is how I styled the blonde one into a hime gyaru wig :D

The technique I’m using is pretty much the exact same technique for standard hime style hair but because it’s a wig there’s no fear of damage so you can pretty much go nuts. Or if you are happy to brush out lots of tangles this is a perfectly fine way to style your actual hair.

As per usual with these I point out that this is just the way I do it and there are lots of other techniques or methods that you could use. I’m certainly not an expert!

So this is the wig to start with, it’s just a plain old multi-tone blonde wig. The cut is layered and it has a light wave to it. As you can see it has very little volume.

The way the top of the hair is parted is also important, this one has a zigzag pattern. It would be better if it was a straight part of even no part so it’s less obvious when you brush it all backwards.So what we want to do is create a lot of volume at the top and sides to make the big lion’s mane effect. The first step is to grab a section in the middle/top and pull it up. I am using a teasing comb to do this, it’s awesome because it has alternating long and short bristles so it catches all of the short hairs and teases perfectly… which it should being a teasing comb and all. Back to it, grab a section at the top towards the back of your head. Leave around 2cm of hair between the section you’re taking and where you want the fringe/bangs to start. At the moment we just want to create a lot of volume before we use the front to cover it all up. Pull forward and tease the back of the section around 3-4 inches from the root. By teasing/backcombing what I’m doing here is combing from the middle back down to the roots. The teasing brush catches all of the shorter hairs and meshes them together into a tangle which gives the piece of hair volume and texture. Once you’ve teased it a reasonable amount it should have volume all on it’s own, you will of course look like an extra out of a Dr Seuss book at this point. So that’s the volume part but the front looks terrible so to fix that we need to smooth down the front. Take your comb and using light short strokes brush lightly back over the front section. You may need to hold the wig in place while you do this. Don’t let the bristles of the comb sink into the hair too deeply or you will basically be undo-ing all of the teasing you just did. Once you have smoothed the front over it should look something like this from the side… That’s really all there is too it, just a lot of teasing, smoothing and eventually hair spraying. This wig is perfect for styling like this because it has lots of short layers. Clip the section you just styled out of the way, we will come back to it later. The next step is to give the wig more volume all over so it start to get into the right basic shape: lion’s mane XD Starting with small sections from the sides, hold the piece of hair out at a 90 degree angle and tease the 3 inches closest to the root. Repeat this until you’ve done every piece of hair on each side. Don’t touch the front area between the first section we did or the fringe. Now keep going to the back. Pull the sections upwards and tease at the roots. You can see in this photo the individual tracks of hair and my pink tips showing through XD Don’t forget to do the underneath sections too, they are very important because they hold the rest of the style up! Below you can see how much volume is created just by teasing at the roots. Because this wig is more wavy than actually curly I decided to play up the curls by teasing them at the ends slightly too. To do this, you grab the end of a curl by the tip and run the comb from the tip up a couple of inches. Only do this once per curl otherwise you disturb them rather than accentuating them. Basically you’re pushing the curl up the strand of hair so it looks… curlier. Now it’s time to finish the top section finally! Unclip it and we’ll get to work :D At this point it should look something like this… The final step involves the sections between the top and fringe that we’ve been saving. Taking a small piece of hair from that area at a time, tease the back of it lightly and then sweep it backwards. At this point hairspray will be your friend. I’m taking a lot of spray. You can see below I’ve started sweeping the front back on the left side but not the right yet.So it’s starting to come together. Because you are trying to brush pieces of the wig in directions they weren’t designed to go in, doing this will take some trial and error. Getting mine to stay took a whole lot of hairspray and then a lot of teasing and smoothing over the front…. tease, smooth, spray, tease, smooth,spray over and over. This is starting to look more like the finished product now but not there yet. Half finished from the back it looks very messy so this area needs to be combed and sprayed as well. After continuing with the combing and spraying, paying careful attentions to the sides as well as the top this was my finished product: From the side: Now looking at the photos I can see areas I intend to improve, for example cutting more layers into the back and using that to creating more defined curls. You can see below  that it definitely needs a few more layers to make the top pouf look more natural with the loose hair below. Until I do that (or if you don’t trust yourself cutting into a wig) this can be temporarily hidden with a big bow. From the back: With the addition of some accessories I’m quite happy with the way it turned out considering it was a first attempt. When I make the changes I’m planning I will be sure to post photos of that too :) Bonus photo: Taking off the wig and scaring the hell out of James with by real hair because he was so used to the wig XD The wig by itself from the front: The back: Side: So there you go, that was my first adventure into wig styling and I’m quite happy with the outcome. Of course there are a lot of areas that I need to improve in and this isn’t the best example of a hime style wig but I can see where I want to go from here  and that’s all for another post! Knotted Up Do Hairstyle Tutorial

Following on from the previous hair tutorial requests, I was asked to do a more formal updo that was still nice and Summery ^_^

This style doesn’t look good on me personally because of the gradient in my hair but it looks awesome in dark hair because it’s textured enough to show up without looking over the top.

What you need:

• Brush
• Hair spray
• Hair ties
• Hair spray or frizz serum

The knots you should be using are pretty much square knots or the kind you would use to tie your shoe, an example can be seen here: http://www.folsoms.net/knots/

Start with one like this:

If you do it evenly it should form a pretty pattern. Depending if you want the look to be messy and casual or sleek and complicated you might want to use frizz reduction serum or something similar before you start knotting. Don’t worry about not being able to get them undone later because the pieces of hair you’re using to tie them are so large they should just spring back apart like a plait.

Then keep tying the pieces over and over until you get something like this:

Now pull the section upwards and curve it toward the base of the ponytail. Pin it in place.

Repeat this process with the next section of hair but curve it a bit towards the right of the ponytail when you pin it:

The third section should be curved downwards and pinned at the bottom of the ponytail. After pinning all 3 parts you shouldn’t be able to see the hair tie in the ponytail anymore, it should just look like a big loopy bun:

Finally it’s time to do the top section. This is really what determines the final look so here are two options!

Brushing it to the side tie it in a loose knot about half way down:

Continue knotting from that point.

You have something like this:

Pull it backwards and pin into the main bun:

Add a little flower and you’re done ^_^

You can see how it looks a bit like a big swirl from the back:

Another option for the top which makes it look a little more prom-ish is to tease/backcomb it a bit, pin it in place then knot the rest and add it into the main bun:

So yes while it doesn’t suit my hair very well it’s a decent style for those with medium length darker hair and can be dressed up or down accordingly ^_^

Curled One Sided Gyaru Updo Hairstyle Tutorial

The lovely Celina asked me for a hair tutorial for something that could be worn to a wedding. It needed to be cute but not bride-thunder-stealing-cute XD

I’ve been really enjoying casual looks with plaits and braids lately so I figured I would incorporate that into the style again ^_^

This is the finished product, a plaited headband with a plaited heart and flower!

What you need:

• Brush
• Hair Spray
• Pins
• Clip to hold other hair out of the way.

Overhead Plait Hairstyle Tutorial For Summer

With the whole new hair thing I’ve got new inspiration to start doing hair and beauty tutorials again ^_^

I’ve had a lot of requests for styles involving braids and plaits which I suppose makes sense considering that mori styles are becoming more and more popular and coming in to Summer they keep hair off the neck!

So this is one of my favorite Summer styles, mostly because it’s cool but it also looks like it took a lot more time than it actually did XD

What you need:

• Hair ties
• Bobby pins
• Brush
• Hair spray
• Flower pins or decorations

Start off by sectioning your hair into 2 even pig tails.
