Knitted Headband Tutorial – Quick Project
I’ve been a bit sick this week so today’s project is something nice and quick that you can finish while watching a movie on the couch.
It’s a very simple cute little knitted headband.
I’ve been a bit sick this week so today’s project is something nice and quick that you can finish while watching a movie on the couch.
It’s a very simple cute little knitted headband.
You guys voted on the topic last week and the winner by a long shot was a simple ruffled Lolita skirt for our first big project! Fantastic choice guys, you’ll learn some really great skills in this project which you’ll be able to transfer to other projects.
So before we get into it, let’s have a look at the finished project being modeled by the lovely Miss Quinn ;D
I was sent some extensions from VP Fashion and I decided to dye them to match my real hair! I hope you enjoyed the video, let me know if you try it out :D
It’s getting quite chilly and wintery here now so I’ve been going through a knitting/crochet binge. I tend to do this every time it gets cold XD
I’ve been trying to dent my yarn stash a bit and one of the projects I came up with to use up scraps was this fluffy faux cable crochet hat. I like to think it’s so ugly it’s cute!
So let’s get started!
So far we’ve learned some basic sewing skills and seeing as you guys preferred to learn skills inside actual projects it’s time to vote on our first major project!
The first 3 that I’ve picked are roughly the same skill level and have mostly the same techniques used.
See the options below and then vote using the form beneath that. Let me know if you have any suggestions in the comments too!
This is such a fun look and really doesn’t take too long to do! I had way too much fun making this video including doing the Charleston for far longer than I actually included in the video XD
Hope you enjoyed it!
I promised we would get started with our first project this week and here it is! We are going to learn the very basics of sewing by making a cute little pouch.
These pouches were the first thing that I ever learned how to make, they are very useful and even more so they teach a lot of really useful sewing skills in a way which isn’t too complicated or overwhelming. So let’s get started!
You need:
I’m going to be honest, I thought I had already posted this spiral pillow tutorial from Home Sweet Home. It wasn’t until someone emailed me and asked where it was *_* My bad!!
So I made this pillow quite some time ago for the Home Sweet Home project, it’s one of my favorites of the pillows I made because spiral crochet is really fun to do. I would actually like to do another version of this where the spirals are 2-3 rows wide so they look really huge!
Especially because some random puppy claimed it as hers the minute I finished it!!!
I ended up having to split this post into two because I didn’t realise how much there was to learn here or how involved it actually was >_< Once you’ve been sewing for a little while all of this becomes second nature so you won’t even think about threading a machine, it will just kind of happen. So when you see how complicated it looks don’t be discouraged, I promise it gets a little easier every time and soon you won’t even need to look at the instructions!
So threading a sewing machine can be kind of scary for beginners but it really shouldn’t be! First let’s get to know about sewing machines a little bit.
Keep in mind that during this guide I will be using a Singer, your machine may be different to mine. Most sewing machines thread roughly the same way but it’s always best to see if you can find a manual specific to your make and model. I will be giving tips which are specific to my Singer and also fairly general so please take this as a guide rather than concrete instructions and use your imagination to apply it to your own situation. Also keep in mind that I’m only going to be explaining the basics for the moment. There will be other functions that the machine has that I will ignore for the moment because they aren’t needed for what we’re going to do as beginners. I will cover them in the advanced classes later.
BE CAREFUL. It REALLY hurts if you accidentally sew your finger. Seriously. Keep your fingers away from the needle when your foot is on the pedal. It seems obvious but I have seen a lot of injuries because people weren’t paying attention. If you have animals make sure they are in another room. I had a friend once who caught her finger in a machine because her cat jumped on the petal.
If you are threading your machine, turn it off at the switch or at the very least take your foot off the pedal. I cannot stress this enough. It also can’t hurt to have someone who already knows what they are doing around a sewing machine to help you if possible. You can’t be too careful!
Firstly thank you to Karina for suggesting the adorable name, I love it! I’ll draw a pretty graphic for next week.
I think it’s going to be best to take this in bite size chunks so we don’t get too far ahead and everyone has a chance to ask questions before we move on. Also keep in mind that I am telling you about the way *I* sew. Every seamstress has different techniques and favorite ways to do things, these are just mine!
Ok so you want to learn how to sew? Awesome! Before you jump in and drop a couple of grand at your local sewing supply it’s important to know what you might need, what it’s going to cost and what you can actually do with it. There’s no point spending a heap of money on a fancy shmancy computerised embroidery machine when you just want to make basic skirts or repair damaged clothes.
Before we get deep into the sewing for next week’s tutorials I thought I would show you guys a very quick no-sew project!
This is another super old idea which has been around the internet like crazy and I never thought I would actually make one until I recently realised I have very few big chunky necklaces.
And so my version of the traditional tshirt scarf/necklace turned out like this:
It’s been a while since I was able to put together a video tutorial but I finally got to do a new hair tutorial! I totally love this style because once it’s in place it’s not going anywhere no matter how windy it is!
It was fun filming on the beach too!
Hope you guys enjoyed it ^_^
Ever since I did my first sewing tutorial on this blog I’ve had comments, emails and requests asking for a beginners guide to sewing. Well after some proper thought planning out it starts today!
Mondays will now be Sewing 101 days… though Sewing 101 is such a lame name for a series so if you have any other suggestions please leave them in the comments! I’m so bad at coming up with names for things!!
Today being the first day I wanted to give the option for you guys to see what I have planned and tell me what you actually want to learn. Is there a particular thing you want to make as your first project? Do you have a burning question about bobbins? Do you want to learn how to ruffle so you can sew your own Lolita skirts? Let me know in the comments so I can tailor things as we go!
Currently the post schedule looks like this:
So what do you guys suggest? Do you prefer things in video format or photos? I personally think this will suit photos more as it can be harder to watch videos while you’re actually *doing* stuff. Let me know your suggestions and let’s get sewing together!
Last Christmas/Halloween I was gifted the most beautiful mannequin by Fables In Fashion. It was a complete surprise because I had been complaining about wanting a better way to display things for sewing tutorials for a while and even started to save up for one again… and then she showed up at my apartment with one *_* I am so grateful to have such amazing friends, I honestly feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
We named the new addition to the household Quinne…. because we are unoriginal like that!
This is the story of how Quinne had her make over and turned into this:
Winter is coming *insert Game of Thrones theme song….* on strong and when Winter hits I tend to get in the mood to knit and crochet :D
I’ve resolved this month to make time for myself and doing things that *I* want to do eg. crafting. The first project I finished was this big smooshy scarf!
I love big buns (and I cannot lie… >_>) but sometimes it’s nice to be able to wear them without teasing/backcombing. Some people aren’t fans of backcombing because it doesn’t suit every hair type and it can be damaging. It’s good to take a break from damaging things!

I’ll be filming the next set of these fairly soon so if you have any requests now is the time for them :D
Today though, I wanted to share one of my favorite elegant styles. This is great for classic outfits and times when a little more elegance is appropriate!
Imagine this:
You’re on holiday somewhere in Europe and you bump into a handsome prince. Love at first sight! He is madly in love with you and invites you to the embassy ball… the only problem is you only have 30 minutes to get ready! D: You already own several ball gowns (who doesn’t, am I right?) but OH NOES what will you do with your hair?!?! Every girl’s worst nightmare… ;)

I’m back from Queensland and getting back into the swing of everything! This week I’ve got some big announcements as well as some competitions coming up but let’s kick things off with a hair tutorial :D
Looped plaits are a really versatile style because they go with a lot of different fashion looks. I really love these with classic Lolita styled outfits but they can be dressed up or down and worn with just about anything.

I’m getting ready to go to Queensland this week so have an early hair tutorial ;)
Queensland is putting me in a beachy mood so what better than a one sided hairstyle? It reminds me a bit of a mermaid ^_^

You guys will probably remember that as part of the Home Sweet Home Project I made a new kitchen backsplash out of contact and wrapping paper. I couldn’t find a pattern that I wanted so I ordered some purpose made kitchen sticker covering.
The new version and the old!
Time for another hair tutorial. This week I’m doing a faux mini ponytail!
As usual, here is the video version of this style and the downloadable one is down the end!
I love having long hair but sometimes it’s nice to have short hair too. I don’t want to cut it so how can I have a little cute ponytail without the commitment of a cut? It’s actually pretty easy!

Today’s hairstyle is one of my favorites: a messy curly bun :D
This style works really well with super cute outfits and is surprisingly easy to do.
Here is the video version:

This week’s video is a tutorial on how to do some puffy bear/Minni Mouse/whatever you want to call it ears ^_^
The new video set up is quite fun to film in but the natural light coming through the back can make lighting very frustrating. It changes as the sun reflects off different buildings making even white balancing annoying. I love it so much but because of that I don’t think I’ll be able to film there often >_< Now I need to work out where I can film that’s not going to be effected by the stupid windows. Who knew having natural light would be a bad thing in this situation! (I can hear James saying “I told you so!”)
Hope you enjoyed the tutorial!
Craaaft time! YAY~
Today is something really simple, a braided leather cuff made from a belt!
Hair tutorial time! My brain is completely fried at the moment, so many things to organise and do, I think I need a life overhaul! Being a bit busy means less time for pretty hair, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have cute hair. Fishtail braids look really complicated but once you understand the basic idea they are quick and easy to do!
Here is a video version for those of you who prefer them and the downloadable version is at the end as usual:

It’s been a really crazy week and between everything else I’ve been getting the next batch of these hair tutorials ready. Today’s tutorial is something that might help those of you thinking of dying your hair a crazy colour. I get quite a few comments and emails every saying “I want to do my hair like yours but I can’t because of school/work/something else”. Well this is a great way to see if it looks good before you commit or do it for the weekend and then wash it out before Monday!
The video version of this will be added as soon as I finish editing!
Let’s do it!

When I did the Home Sweet Home reveals in early January I promised to show how I decoupaged all of the ugly black plastic shelves we had. It’s extremely easy to do though a little time consuming and all you need is some pretty paper, PVA glue and water.
This was the finished result of my shoe shelf:
I’m still catching up from our weekend in Canberra so I thought it would be nice to kick off the week with a video of a Transformation I took part in for Illamasqua’s new collection. I was invited last week so I could have a look through the new collection I’MPERFECTION. The premise of this collection is to celebrate all of the things we generally try to hide as imperfections.
Here is the video we made of the day, hope you enjoy!
I could really see myself wearing the speckle eyeliner again and there’s an extremely neat 1960′s style look using the b/w combination in the brochure which I want to recreate.
I’m heading off to Canberra today so by the time you guys read this James and I will probably already be on the plane ^_^ I think this is the hairstyle I’ll be wearing today too!
And here is the video version of the tutorial that I did quite some time ago.

Meet Quinn my new mannequin ^_^ She was a gift from an extremely lovely friend and she’s allowing me to do a whoooole lot more sewing! I’m so excited to work on more sewing projects.
I’m planning to do a tutorial as I customise her to my exact measurements as well which should be really fun!
The first project that I decided to do using Quinn was remaking a dress I got from DreamV into a skirt and blouse set.
This was the dress originally:
It was a really pretty dress but they were out of smalls so I ordered a large and it just didn’t sit the way I wanted it to. So goodbye dress and hello skirt and top!
Luckily, ordering a bigger size was really a good idea because it gave me a lot more room to work with the fabric.
First thing I did was carefully cut around the seem connecting the blouse part tot the skirt to separate them. I then hemmed the bottom of the blouse.
DONE!
Seriously, it was about 5 minutes worth of work.
Here it is with a high waisted skirt:
The skirt had a little more work in it. I made an incision in the waist and shortened the elastic so it was actually the correct size for my waist. I then sewed it back up and hemmed the top.
DONE!
Now I have a much more versatile set that can be worn together or separately like this in a much more flattering way:
It’s been great getting to some of the things which have been in my sewing pile for waaaay too long. Hopefully I can do some more serious stash busting soon! I will be doing a lot more sewing from scratch as well so if there’s something you’d all like to see let me know ^_^
Jewellery is something that I tend to reorganise every couple of months. At the moment I’ve found a storage solution that I really like as it doesn’t take up much space, it cost under $10 and it hold all kinds of jewellery not just small of big things.
My finished shelves:
It’s made of 2 pink storage trays and a glitter Christmas tree from Daiso.
I took apart the glitter Christmas tree using a very strong pair of pliers. It was quite difficult to remove the pieces cleanly without getting glitter everywhere.
In the end I gave up trying to be neat and just did a big clean up afterwards.
I tend bent the tree with the pliers to make the bottom totally flat and slid it onto the top of the tray.
Then I used the heart cut outs to hold all of my earrings :D
Around the bottom of the tree I keep my rings and the lower levels have space for big items like necklaces and bracelets.
Nice and easy! Hope you enjoyed!
Has it really already been another week *_* God this year is going so quickly!
Today’s hairstyle is a classic pouf with a quiffed fringe. This style is great for school because it’s very quick to do and you can pin the bottom hair however you like to meet rules like “hair must be tied back” etc. You can even pull the bottom hair into an updo at the back and make it suitable for work.

There are heaps of mini drink umbrella tutorials on Pinterest and it was seeing them constantly popping on my stream that gave my the idea to make some for a picnic we had. All of the tutorial I saw were for plain round umbrellas not for crinkled ones which I prefer. The round ones are quite cute but they are hell to have to pack up to take to a picnic.
So after 10 minutes playing with some pretty paper this was the result:
Now I think it’s time to organise another picnic!
Yay! Today I’ll show you how to do the long awaited Lady Rainicorn nailart :D
I did these last year for Halloween to go with my Princess Bubblegum costume.
Here is a video tutorial tutorial and there’s a downloadable version at the bottom too!

And we’re back after weekend with a mini Home Sweet Home post :D Other than the crochet items, most of the things I’ve got left to show are on the small side which makes them great for doing one night after work or while watching TV. Of course, last night I went nuts and completely reorganised my craft area again so I’m sure there will be more projects to come soon that are bigger.
This is a very quick easy way to make a doorstop with absolutely no skill required.
The end result:
I’ve done several glitter shoe tutorials before but this one has been on my list for quite some time. I love the look of shoes with brightly coloured soles so glitter is the perfect way to highlight that even more. For anyone who was wondering, the shoes are from DreamV and they are SUPER uncomfortable!
The trick to this version not requiring a top coat of anything is the kind of glue used. I use wash n wear fabric glue but any non-water soluble fabric glue will work fine. If you decide to use a PVA or regular white craft glue keep in mind that they are only going to be water resistant, not water proof. You will also need to top coat with more glue in that case as they are weaker glues. There’s a tutorial for how to glitter sneakers that way over here.
This is the first craft video we’ve shot using the DLSR and I’m really happy with the new set up so far, it was a lot more work so if you enjoyed it share it and let me know! Now I’m just waiting for my new lights to get here so I can do even more things like this without needing to wait for the sun! :D
Hair tutorial time again :D I am pretty happy with how regularly I’ve been able to get these done, the new set up makes me so much more motivated. Now I just need to finalise my video set up with some new lighting and I’ll be set!
Today I’m showing a basic small pouf style with two plaited headbands.
Start with clean brushed hair.

Pull out a small piece of hair from the nape of your neck.
Now plait down the whole length of the hair and tie off.
Repeat with another piece of hair on the other side of your head.
Put those to the side of the moment while we make the pouf.
Pull a large section of hair up from the top of your head.
Pull it forward on an angle and then use your brush to lightly tease/back comb the back of the section.
Now fold it backwards gently so the pouf is as high as you like and pin in place. I like to shape it with my hands so it’s nice and round. You can fluff it up with your fingers too. If you don’t like the shape just pull it up and start again.
Now grab one of the little plaits and pull it up and over your head to the other side. It should sit at the part between fringe/bangs and pouf. You can pull the side bits of hair behind the plait for a smooth look or leave them in front for a soft look. Pin the plait on the other side of your head, mine reaches just behind my ear but as long as it goes over half way you should be fine.
Now pull the other plait to the other side. it should cover the end of the first plait. Tuck the end of it under the first plait and pin in place.
If the ends are really obvious then pin a little of your loose hair over the top. Give the whole thing a burst of hairspray.
And that’s it! I like to curl the ends of the loose hair so it’s a very floaty soft look but I think it works really well straight too.
I hope you enjoyed the tutorial :D
I’m going to continue doing these as regularly as possible so if you have any hairstyle requests please let me know!

After almost a year since the last one of these painting videos I find myself getting back into painting… again.. again?
I tend to only paint when I am relaxed and have lots of time so it doesn’t happen too often. I like to find the perfect tv show or video game that can occupy my mind while I paint. We’ve just finished playing Assassin’s Creed Revelations and to be honest it kind of sucked and I didn’t find it as inspiring as the previous two. So we started playing #2 again last night and I’m already in the mood to get out the water colours!
I think I’ll continue my series of portraits of inspiring people online as well as some other cute things… or realistically I’ll just keep doing portraits of Lottie XD I have a one track mind!
I was considering putting together a few basic tutorials on very beginners techniques for water colours so if you have any questions leave them in the comments!
I’ve been playing around with some darker looks in terms of jewellery and clothing. While I was trying to put together looks I realised I don’t really have very many non-pearl necklaces and bracelets. So I set about making myself some!
This was my favorite of the pieces I made that first day by far:
To make it I used some chain, a butterfly I pulled off a broken ring and a strap of leather from a woven belt I bought for $2 from a thrift shop while I was out one day poppin’ tags and looking for a come up ;)
The butterfly was all broken so I glued it back together again and cut two even pieces of chain. At the beginning I considered adding some bling but the end result didn’t need it. Less is apparently sometimes more ;)
I used a couple of rings to attach the chain to the butterfly wings and added a clasp to the ends.
I then cut some lengths of leather which were a bit longer than the chain.
I folded the leather around the end of the chain, glued the end down and then wove it through the links. Once reaching the other end I cut the extra off, folded under again and glued in place.
Easy! That’s all there was to it and it took me more time to decide on the design than it did to make it.
Bonus shot of the designer wearing it!
I think the butterfly is still quite delicate so it adds a nice touch to a darker outfit. What other kinds of jewellery should I try making? I’ve had an obsession with thick bangles recently!
We’re back to Home Sweet Home again, well kind of. I promised I would go back through all of the things I hadn’t posted about so today I’ll show you how I did the biggest change to the kitchen: the splashback.
The after:
Again, we rent so I wasn’t allowed to do anything permanent but I really hated the colour of the glass splashback. This make over cost under $10 and all it needed was some pretty wrapping paper and clear book covering contact.
This was the kitchen before:

Before I decided to do this I did several test to make sure it would be waterproof and the heat of the stove top wouldn’t effect it either. Mine was fine because we never use the back burners but I would suggest you test VERY thoroughly as you wouldn’t want it to be a fire hazard. You can also find contact which was made specifically for the kitchen but none of the shops I visited had it. I have since decided I don’t like the pattern of this because there isn’t enough green in it and I found some shops online which sell patterned kitchen contact by the meter so I’m going to buy some and I’ll let you know how that goes!
Anyway back to it!
I removed everything from the benches and cleaned the glass very well.

I chose this wrapping paper because it was full of the colours I was theming the house on, when it was a small area rolled up I really liked it but on the huge area of the wall it was a bit busy.
I cut the wrapping paper so it fit exactly the size of the space. I then cut another 1cm off around it so there was a gap for the edges of the contact to stick to. I attached the wrapping paper to the wall using strips of thin double sided tape all over it.
The contact was much thinner so I used several vertical stripes instead of horizontal ones. I carefully applied strip by strip making sure it stuck to the thin area of glass around the paper, overlapped each previous one slightly and had no air bubbles. This took quite a long time but the results were worth it.

And that was it! Done and dusted. It took quite a while but it was certainly better than the blue. I’m looking forward to seeing the green version once I’ve order it!
Yay for more hairstyles :D This one is a big rolled vintagey style. I did a video on this one quite a while ago which is at the bottom of the post along with the downloadable version!
Let’s get into it, start with brushed hair.
You will need a hair sausage or something which can be put in the middle of the roll to pad it out. I did a tutorial a while ago on how to make your own sausage so check that out over here.
Start by brushing your hair backwards leaving a small section on either side of your face.
Decide roughly where you want the end result to sit on your head.
Gently hold the hair up like this:
If you don’t have a hair sausage you can use pretty much anything in that shape. Even a couple of clean socks rolled up will do ;)
Flip the ends of the hair over the sausage like this:
Gently roll the sausage and hair towards your head.
And it should end up like this:
Fluff out the sides so it covers the sausage completely. Pin it in place using bobby pins.
Now give it a a decent helping of hair spray.
Next curl the sections of hair you left down at the front.
You can leave them down like this as a softer version of the look.
Otherwise you can just fold the hair up so it follows the same curve of the roll and pin in place. It should hide the ends of the sausage completely.
Now just style your fringe.
As a finishing touch I like to add a some flowers at the top of the roll or a string of pearls.
All done!
This is a great style for summer as it keeps the hair off your neck.
For those of you who prefer videos here it is! I’ve been having some technical issues with embedding videos so if it doesn’t show up just leave me a comment and I’ll get it up again >_<

The last few times I’ve posted about deco-ing my iPhone there have been a lot of requests for tutorials. I’ve done a lot of deco tutorials over the years but I’ve never been able to do a video because usually deco-ing the thing that I film with XD
This time however I was just doing a case so I filmed the whole thing on my phone. YAY!
The video is below but here are some tips and answers to questions I get quite a lot:
What glue are you using?
2 part 5 minute epoxy. You can buy it at any hardware store, this one is from Daiso.
How long does this take?
Depending on the complexity it usually only takes a few hours.
Where do you buy the parts?
Bergamot Charms are available through my Etsy store. I buy locally at junk stores, sometimes I buy from ebay, Full Moon Deco is great for parts and run by a super nice lady.
Where did you get the clear case?
Ebay.
How are you picking up the pearls/jewels?
I use either a cuticle stick with a tiny bit of water on the end for tiny jewels or reverse tweezers for regular ones.
How long does it last?
If you use epoxy it will last a very good while especially if you take care of it. I’ve had things (cameras mostly) which have lasted for years.
What if I make a mistake?
Don’t deco directly to an item if you are worried about making mistakes, put down a layer of clear contact first. You can easily remove contact if you don’t like the final design.
It’s kind of cool seeing all of this in fast motion! If you have any other questions feel free to leave them in the comments :D
Omg finally photo hair tutorials!! James has made me a nice new set up to take the photos in so you’ll be seeing lots more of this in the near future!
At the bottom of this post there is a downloadable version and a video in case you get stuck.
So let’s get into it!
Start with brushed hair.
Grab a small section at the top of your head and brush it up and to one side.
Using a hair tie, make a ponytail but leave quite a bit of extra hair tie.
Pull the hair through the band again but only pull it a little way so it make a little loop like this:
Twist the hair band so it traps the loop in place:
Hold the loop in the palm of your hand and pull the loose hair through the hair tie again to form a second loop.
You should have something like this:
You can see the direction the hair comes through the band in this photo an the way the band wraps around.
Now to make it look more like a bow, push it forward and pin in place.
You can use the tail of hair to make the middle of the bow and cover the hair band. To do this just pull it backwards and pin there.
Like this!
I prefer to cover the band with a little flower.
This style looks extra cute if you curl the ends so it looks like a ribbon!
All done!
It’s worth giving it a blast of hairspray to keep in place. If you don’t want to use hairspray or you have thinner hair you can tease the ponytail so it has a better chance of staying in place.
Sometimes it’s easier to understand these kinds of things by seeing it in video form so here’s a video too!
I hope guys all enjoyed this tutorial as much as I enjoyed making it! Lots more to come, the new year is making me feel re-energised and creative!

These wrapping bracelets have been in a lot of stores lately but they’re so easy to make that I really don’t think they’re worth spending much money on.
You need:
Cut 3 long strands of yarn and tie the ends in a knot. Leave a little extra before the knot so you can make a tie later with it.
This is easiest to do with something holding the yarn steady, I used a bead container and closed the lid on the thread.
String a heap of beads onto each thread. I started with 6 on each strand, you can always add some more later.
Start plaiting. Move the right thread over and to the center.
Move the left thread over and to the center.
Push the first bead up the middle thread and place it in the center of the plait.
Move the right thread around the bead and to the center. The bead is now trapped.
Move the left thread to the center and push up another bead. Continue the plait like this, every time you move the thread on the left to the center, push up another bead.
It will look something like this:
Plait until you run out of beads or it’s as long as you wanted. I think these look really cute when they wrap around a couple of times.
Plait the loose ends at the beginning and tie them in a loop.
Plait the rest of the yarn without the beads and then tie the end into a large knot.
You can push the knot through the loop to secure it.
Done!
Now you can experiment with different materials, I make one with wire too and it was really pretty!
These make really nice presents too!
Hope you found it useful, let me know if you tried it out!
See all of the Home Sweet Home Reveal posts in order here:
So with this post we reach the end of the Home Sweet Home project. But is it really an end?
It’s the beginning of the year, there are still little things to take care of, my tastes change over time and there are always new things to make or buy. I don’t think it’s the end at all. I think rather it will never be the end but the beginning of what will be a life long obsession with surrounding myself with beauty in every way possible. I don’t think I’ll ever be completely content how my apartment is but I can be thrilled with the way it progresses and changes with me. My house is a reflection of myself and my life and as I grow and change as a person so will it.
So the biggest lesson I’ve learned in doing this massive project is that it will never be over. I’m actually happy with my apartment now which is a huge change. It’s a pleasure to live here, I don’t feel weighed down looking out the window any more. It’s inspiring. I’ve learned that I can do projects this big if I set my mind to them!
This isn’t going to be the last Home Sweet Home post, there are still many things that I created for these rooms that I’d like to post. So this isn’t a goodbye to a project, rather a hello to the next stage. I hope you have enjoyed reading along so far!
Thank you all for your support and your kind words along the way, it’s been awesome having so much support and feedback :D Especially thank you to James who is the most helpful and understanding boyfriend ever. He came up with so many ideas for this series and he was so supportive! Now I’m actually looking forward to what comes next, I don’t know what it is but I’m sure it will be very fun!
I can now happily say that (at least for the moment) THIS IS MY HOME SWEET HOME!
Lastly if there have been projects you’ve enjoyed along the way in this reveal, I’ve probably done a tutorial on them or I’m going to post one soon. This is also in the tutorial section but below is a list of all of the Home Sweet Home posts and tutorials so far. Let me know if there’s anything I haven’t covered yet, I’ll be posting more of the tutorials soon. I’ve also updated the proper Home Sweet Home page with all of the reveal urls in case you ever nee to find them again.
Thank you all for coming along on this crazy ride with me, it’s been a lot of fun!
Welcome to the next room in Home Sweet Home: the bedroom!
Read each of the rooms below:
Before and after:
Just the after this time.
I don’t think I have a before photo of the whole bedroom because I never thought it was nice enough to take photo of. Imagine a lot of black though, all of our bed stuff was black and the carpet is a very dark blue so it was basically a light pit.
Photo spam:
From the doorway it now looks so much bigger.
There are no windows but having a similar theme for everything makes it feel a lot less claustrophobic.
My wardrobe has actual organisation and a system for hanging things. Not only that but it’s colour coded and all of the shelves have been decoupaged in the same paper as the door.
The laundry bin is still a personal favorite in this room.
As much as the big cupboards suck for actual storage, I love having the huge mirrors. It really gives a feeling of space.
Another edition of spot the sleeping puppy XD
My make up area has been compressed and organised. Organisation for the win!
You can also see the ruffle for the bed here that I made from the princess curtains I had in the lounge..
Everything in the house has been themed pink and green as much as possible. Flowers are a big inspiration, I want it to always be Spring here no matter the season!
The new bedspread.
The wallpaper on the doors fits the theme without being too overpowering.
James’ bedside table:
My bedside table.

It’s the little details that tie it in together like that I painted our cord holders with nail polish to match.
Background information:
I have a love hate relationship with our bedroom. I want to love it but the carpet makes me hate it. It’s so dark that the bedroom seems like a total sink hole for light. I can’t do anything much about that other than putting rugs down so for now it’s something I have to live with. So I did my best to brighten the rest of the room using better linen, covering all of the black shelves and painting everything I could white. I covered up all of the glass so there was a bit more privacy and also brighten it even more. I reused the curtains I made as a ruffle to cover the bottom of the mattress, it was a bit sad to cut them up but I feel like it fits better and I still have the second one to do something else with.
The biggest problem I have with this room is the cupboard. The person that designed this cupboard has never used a cupboard in their lives. Out of the 3 doors only 1/2 of them is really useable space because the left side opens to a wall and the right side is too small to fit coat hangers in -_-’ This is a massive pain as it means clothes really need to be stored out in the bedroom taking up more space. What it did do was make me think outside the box. I installed thin shelves in the cupboards so I could keep things we don’t use often in there and give James’ clothes a separate space so he could get them more easily. The things there now actually have a place and boxes to make the storage easy.
Everything is now bright and airy. Well as airy as a room with no actual windows can be ^_^ It feels like a relaxing place to live and sleep. I love going to bed at night. I find it so nice to lay in bed and read now where as before living in clutter and darkness it didn’t feel relaxing at all. I think that this room really is the epitome of what I was trying to achieve with this project. It IS my home sweet home.
Changes made:
Still to be done:
Final thoughts:
This is the last room in our apartment and so it’s the last day you’ll be seeing the reveals. I think this room is the perfect way to end the series as it really embodies the concept of Home Sweet Home. It was hard work and I had to think very creatively to make this room work but I love it. It works for me and more importantly it works for us as a couple. I love our bedroom and I’m so proud of the work we’ve done and the fact that doing it together has brought us closer together.
Bonus progress photos:
Spray painting the end tables was a real challenge as we don’t just have a back yard to do this kind of thing in! I ended up having to create a massive box to house the tables in then open the doors and point the fan up the top to prevent spray back and the fumes from killing us XD
Ingenuity!
Silly but it worked like a charm. My favorite part of the bedroom was changing the covers. We bought this set from Target after a long discussion over which would look best.
The change from black to white was such a big thing! Thank you helper James for putting it all together!
I ended up turning the matching pillows into the headboard too so that worked out really well.
The old clothing racks were all over the place and really didn’t stand up well XD
So I decided to pull it all apart and start from scratch.
This gave me a chance to go through things and decide what I really LOVED and what could be packed away or given to charity. If it wasn’t going to be worn a lot it didn’t go back on the racks.
I also colour coded all of the clothes which really helped with making it look organised. This was all before I took the shelves apart and re organised them all.
Make sure you come back tomorrow for the last instalment: What Have We Learned!
Welcome to the next room in Home Sweet Home: Violet’s make up area!
Read each of the rooms below (links updated as I post):
Before and after:
More brightness here, this is the most cluttered area in the apartment but it’s starting to come together and match so it’s less obvious.
I think this is the area I worked on the most as it required me to completely redo the dresser.
This is definitely the pinkest area of the apartment, it’s also where I film my videos so it’s good to get me in the mood for it haha!
Jewellery is now organised on some little displays from Daiso. I have since added a section to this for earrings.
The good part of this area is that I can dump jewellery very easily and it doesn’t look too bad because it’s all fairly similar.
The new matching eyelash holder.
Make up :D
I love my stool now but I totally hate the carpet. I just need enough time to crochet an entire new carpet ;)
Background information:
I love this vanity so much. In fact it’s been the subject of so many posts on the blog you’d probably know that already! My mum gave this vanity to me years ago and we had it in our old house too. When we moved down I couldn’t bring it but James’ parents were nice enough to bring it down for us with his double bass. I was so glad to have it back! Unfortunately the colour just didn’t work with what I was doing so I had to do some rethinking.
Changes made:
Still to be done:
Final thoughts:
I love my vanity. I love it even more now it reflects my personality. The only problem I have is that it gets messy very easily. It’s the area that I tend to dump things in when I’m in a hurry. When I get home at night I dump all of my jewellery there because I’m too tired to put it away and that’s not ok. I think changing from a messy person to a neat person happens in degrees, you can’t just change overnight. I’ve made great progress at it so far because the new house design actually encourages me to put things in their places but the vanity is the one area left that’s a little tough to do because it’s so full of tiny things in a small area. It is happening though. I am becoming less lazy, I want to keep things tidy and I’ve noticed my priorities changing over the last year to reflect that. This area is my second favorite in the house (the special flower place in the lounge being my favorite), it’s very “me”. Every time I sit down here to do my make up I feel happy and that’s the whole point of the Home Sweet Home project. It’s a fantastic feeling when you can look at a before photo and know it’s never going back to that again!
Bonus progress photos:
You’ve already seen a lot of vanity photos on the blog at various times but here are a few of them again as a reminder of how far it’s come!
The stool after it was recovered.
After moving it over to the other side of the bedroom.
Unfortunately as we moved everything around in the cupboards and around the house it became even more cluttered.
It was at that point I decided to paint it.
Much prettier!
And then I cluttered it right up again XD
Make sure you come back tomorrow for the next instalment: the bedroom!
Welcome to the next room in Home Sweet Home: James’ area!
Read each of the rooms below (links updated as I post):
Before and after:
This will always be a boys area so it’s never going to be pink and pretty but it’s well organised and not another light hole now!
Before the work James had a massive set of black selves for his photography stuff. It wasn’t ideal as we couldn’t find anything because it was so fat, plus his black shelves held black gear. His desk was also very unorganised.
Photo spam:
James tends to keep his things in small piles so I think I might get him a little box or something to keep them in.
At least as time goes by he’s replacing his old broken things with nice things!
The two main things he keeps are photography things and music things.
The photography stuff now has a better set of shelves which don’t take up as much space. You may recognise them from the original food area!
Of course there are still some cute touches. This is from the first time we ever took purikura together :D

The top of the mini fridge holds Lottie’s things. Since taking these photos I’ve moved her things to inside the cupboard and I’m working on another flower arrangement to keep here.
Background information:
James’s desk takes up a lot of room in our living area but it’s a very important part of the house. Without it I couldn’t bug him to take photos of me XD His requirements for our houses are always that he needs a decent desk and a place to store his photography stuff. In an apartment it’s a bit harder to put that into action without a separate room for it, especially because he likes to watch tv from his desk! The layout we have at the moment works reasonably well for this as he can see around his computer and there’s a space for shelves. It would be nice if we could switch his desk out to a much smaller one so we might be able to turn it sideways and reclaim the space he’s not using. I didn’t want to do too much here because it’s James’ space but the changes we did carry out actually did make a difference to brighten the whole room.
Changes made:
Still to be done:
Final thoughts:
I don’t think this area was ever going to be cute and girly, it’s James’ area after all and he’s not exactly in love with the idea of daisies covering his computer monitor XD That said having the table cloth really brightens the room up. Hiding the black photography gear in the shelves works well and the only improvement I could think there would be to either paint them or have a door so they are hidden entirely. All in all as long and James is happy with it so am I!
Bonus progress photos:
This is from when I changed the shelves out, notice the lovely model who kind of looks like he’s trying to flirt with the camera XD
The desk was given to us by SuperKawaiiMama and it’s served very well these last few years but I think it’s time to get something smaller which we can turn around.
Make sure you come back tomorrow for the next instalment: Violet’s Area!
Welcome to the next room in Home Sweet Home: the laundry!
Read each of the rooms below (links updated as I post):
Before and after:
I didn’t actually think to take any before photos of this because I didn’t think I would be doing anything with it! And really there wasn’t that much done in here.
Photo spam:
Background information:
The laundry tends to be another dumping ground. We used to keep dirty clothes ready to be washed in the sink until we discovered that it was leaking and causing things to mould *_* That was actually a blessing in disguise as it made me get organised and clean it up a bit more. When we got Lottie we needed a place to keep all of her things which was out of the way but still easy to get to and this was the most logical place. I added the shelving to give us some more space but to be honest it needs even more shelving now it’s full of Lottie’s junk!
Changes made:
Still to be done:
Final thoughts:
This is probably the room that still needs the most work. It’s really not even a room, it’s just a cupboard in the bathroom but I don’t want to leave any stone unturned in this house. Because it’s out of site, it tends to be a bit out of mind but I want to enjoy opening the door and having to do washing. I hate washing so it would be nice to be able to open it up and smile at how pretty it is!
Bonus progress photos:
Again I didn’t take any because I didn’t do much here XD
Make sure you come back tomorrow for the next instalment: James’ area!
Welcome to the next room in Home Sweet Home: the bathroom!
Read each of the rooms below (links updated as I post):
Before and after:
Totally bright!
Before it was very white but also very cluttered.
Photo spam:
The pretty mirrors on the doors :D
I love the Cristina Re butterfly paper.
The flower vase suits the bathroom a lot more than it did the living room!
I think this area needs a little more organising as it’s gotten messy after moving some more make up in here. I’m going to buy some cute little containers from Daiso to keep it all out of the way.
The vase is full of memorable things. James found me this peacock feather the first time we ever visited the Zoo on Billy Idol Day :D
I love my repurposed MOR containers.
I made a new little door stop by filling a candy container with rice and putting pretty fabric around it.
Background information:
When we inspected the property to decide if we wanted to rent it, the bathroom was locked shut from the inside and so we couldn’t see it. We applied anyway because we were pretty desperate at the time and this was the nicest place we’d seen so far. Rental competition was very high at the time and we were lucky that it was raining and the agent was 30 minutes late so almost everyone else gave up and went home before the inspection even started. Fast forward to when we actually got the keys and a locksmith had opened the bathroom up. I was so surprised and happy at how nice and big it was! Big is definitely relative, it’s much smaller than our last places but it was still the biggest we’d seen in a city apartment. Unfortunately I covered my nice pretty modern bathroom with a bunch of bathroom junk XD That’s the problem with pretty modern houses, they look great until you put stuff in them! So I’ve had to find a medium between the white and the pink clutter!
Changes made:
Still to be done:
Final thoughts:
The bathroom didn’t need a lot of work, it just needed some thought and for me to stop being so lazy. It’s got a great base and in my dream house this is the styling I would probably choose. I like plain things which can then be embellished to whatever you feel like afterwards and then changed depending on taste and mood. I’ve always liked my bathroom here but now I love it.
Bonus progress photos:
The day we moved in:
The first time I tried to do some decorating:
After getting the big mirror it just looked even more cluttered but it was the accessories which were the problem not the mirror. Lucky because I love the mirror!
The next version where we were thinking “minimalist”. It didn’t last long!
Make sure you come back tomorrow for the next instalment: the Laundry!
Welcome to the next room in Home Sweet Home: The Hallway!
Read each of the rooms below (links updated as I post):
Before and after:
Just like the rest of the apartment, it’s light and airy. It’s amazing what a little paint and paper can do!
This is what our hallway used to look like. It was basically a dumping ground for things which didn’t have another home. The craft area was particularly bad because every time someone offered me some kind of supplies I would just dump them there on top and not even think about it. The other problem area was the shoe rack which was never neat.
The bathroom door is covered with mirrors in our colour scheme. I’m planning to add more to it too.
My shoe rack is organised and themed. The pretty paper makes it so much brighter, I love it! Now I just need to limit myself to not getting any more shoes… as if that’s going to happen >_<
Sneaker obsession partially survived my shoe cull:
Things now actually have their own places in the craft area. Again the lighter shelves make it easier to find things.
My absolute favorite part of the craft area is Quinn my mannequin. She was a gift and she makes everything so much easier to sew and display!
She looks super pretty when she’s doing it too!
My drawing and painting supplies are organised (no more empty pens that I keep because they’re pretty) and seeing them so often makes me want to use them.
All of the smaller craft supplies are organised in little containers so if I want to use them I can just take that container elsewhere then bring it back.
Over the other side the glass panels are decorated with James’ photography. There are only small prints there at the moment but I would love to get some really big ones. I also painted and added leaves to the tree here. I am changing the leaves every season so in Autumn they’ll be orange etc, it’s a silly thing but it’s a really fun way to mark the seasons :D
Background information:
The hallway in our apartment is quite wide and unfortunately it takes up a lot of space which would be better used as living space. It’s an odd width because these buildings used to be offices a long time ago and were only cut into apartments later. The apartments are quite small and don’t have a huge amount of storage space so we had to add in a lot more shelves. I think keeping this are nice looking wasn’t actually that difficult, it just takes a little bit of self control and making sure I put stuff away straight away rather than dumping it and doing it *later*. When I tell myself I’m going to do it later, later never actually comes and we end up with things like the “before” photos XD It’s amazing how much brighter everything looked after I painted and decoupaged the shelves (which was actually James’ idea!). It’s such a little thing but it makes such a big difference! My favorite part of this hallway is the bathroom door which now has the mirror installation. I love the colours that I painted everything and I am planning to get more and more mirrors to hang there until the entire door is covered.
Changes made:
Still to be done:
Final thoughts:
I think the hallway is so much brighter these days. It’s function but it’s not cluttered and dark any more. It feels like a hallway that’s leading you somewhere nice rather than towards a hoarder’s house XD
Bonus progress photos:
The shoe rack was reasonably organised though the shoes were spilling everywhere and they weren’t arranged in any particular way.
The craft area went through a lot of different versions as I tried to organise supplies. Really what I needed to do was get rid of the useless things I was hoarding.
Various shelves on the craft area before they were organised.
Make sure you come back tomorrow for the next instalment: the bathroom!
Welcome to the next room in Home Sweet Home: The Living Room! Read each of the rooms below (links updated as I post):
Before and after:
My kitchen today is light, follows my pink and green colour scheme and has some actual form of organisation!
Looking at the kitchen the way it used to be makes me cringe. I can’t believe it used to be so messy >_< We kept a lot of food here considering it was an apartment, the stupid thing being that it wasn’t stuff we needed. Most of the things that were on these shelves were there because we impulse bought or we had several half finished packets of things. It wasn’t needed!
Photo spam:
Starting with a shot of the whole kitchen/lounge area to get an idea of space. You’ll notice the sleepy puppy in the kitchen now haha!
The kitchen is very standard for an apartment this size. I’m very glad there’s an oven and dishwasher though as I saw quite a few that didn’t come with them.
The bench has my favorite change: the covered backsplash. I am planning to change that out for a green one a bit later though as I think the stripes aren’t exactly what I envisioned.
On the right side the appliances are now organised. I made a hanging hook thing to get some of the stuff off the bench. I love the idea of hanging hooks and being able to put things up and away because the space up there is pretty useless otherwise.
On the other side I created a little matching system of drawers in pink/green and stacked our other things over the top. I’ll be moving the hot chocolate etc into matching containers eventually so it will be even more matchy.
I think it’s the smaller details that really made the kitchen. Having everything in similar colours and with similar patterns really made a big difference visually.
The kitchen is a fairly functional place but having small decorated touches doesn’t take away from the functionality, it makes me very happy.
Background information:
When we moved here we saw the kitchen and lack of storage space and thought “Pft, who cares, we’ll eat out all the time and we’ll drop by the grocery store every few days”. Did that happen? No. We did exactly what we previously did and shopped every few weeks and had no money to eat take away >_< Going to the grocery store? Pft no, we order online now and just pick up little things at the store when needed. So that’s how we somehow ended up with all of this crap. Our kitchen appliances and things didn’t fit anywhere either. This place had minimum bench space so it’s impossible to keep many appliances, the lack of actual storage space means you can’t even really keep them in the cupboards because they’re very thin. When we started here we didn’t have a proper fridge, just a mini fridge so it made things easier as the space where the fridge was could be used for extra appliances. The kitchen was one of my hardest areas to redecorate because no matter how I organised things the gigantic blue backsplash still wasn’t the right colour to go with what I wanted. It was the last thing I put in here and it really changed the look. This area is the place which still needs the most work but it’s stuff which will gradually be replaced and changed.
Changes made:
Still to be done:
Final thoughts: We rent so there’s only so much I can do in areas which have been already decorated. When I own the house I’ll be doing bigger things like repainting or adding new backslashes but for now I’ve made a big enough difference to be happy with the kitchen. I don’t spend as much time in here as I want to (James does all the cooking) but as I spend more time baking, I find the changes are making it more enjoyable. I actually like being in the kitchen baking now… that can only mean good things as it makes me want to bake more :D
Bonus progress photos: The Home Sweet Home page from my diary that I never actually posted.
With all of the cupboards open. The one above the rangehood is only a few inches deep so you can only keep spices there. The one next to it has blocks of wood drilled in so plates can only be a certain width. The one below the sink has a bunch of piping for the dishwasher so it’s very thin too. I think whoever designed this storage had never actually lived in a house before, don’t even get me started on the bedroom cupboards!!
These were the shelves we originally had in here, the white one on the right slides into the wall (super unhelpful) and is built in. The middle one was completely falling apart so I repaired it and gave it to James for his photography stuff. The black one was repurposed for our clothes.
It’s a bit ridiculous that I managed to fit everything from the two left shelves on to the the right one with some organisation and actually chucking out things which I shouldn’t have been keeping.
Make sure you come back tomorrow for the next instalment: the hallway!

Looking through my hardrive makes me wish I’d taken more photos before so I could show what a big difference there’s been. I didn’t take many out of embarrassment >_< This is a before but it was a lot worse than this for the first 8 months.
Photo spam:
I really suggest clicking the panoramas to get the full view! You can spot a very sleepy puppy in a lot of them ;)
The view from the kitchen. The cherry blossom windows look particularly awesome on the middle window.
This area typifies the theme I wanted to have for the apartment: Spring.
This is my favorite part of the entire house. This is the window I spend pretty much all day every day staring at. I wanted something to inspire me and I absolutely love it. Every time I look at this window it puts a smile on my face. It’s partially because that container is usually full of M&Ms and partially because it’s beautiful ;)
One more because I love it so much. It seems ridiculous but this just feels *right*.
My noticeboard and photo wall. For Christmas James bought me a gift to Printstagram so I will be getting our photos printed to fill this wall up with happy memories!
The new couch with the rug I spent months crocheting. I made all of those pillows other than the green one too. The speakers I recovered are on the sides.
I crocheted the spiral cushion and the others were made of old dresses. I am most proud of the rug though, it took me so long and I was basically making it up as I went along. If I could stand the idea of spending the next year crocheting I would make one big enough to cover the carpet in our room. It took 10 balls which we got half price at just $2 each!
The tv area is now no longer a mess of cables. Everything has a place.
Background information:
So the lounge is the most important part of the apartment, it’s the area I spend the most time in and I like it to be nice and relaxing. When we came from Brisbane, we didn’t bring any furniture at all. Everything that came down with us was in our car. Not much fit in the car! We bought appliances like the tv, fridge etc when we moved in but didn’t have much left for furniture. Luckily we had some very kind friends who gave us a desk and a folding chair as a start. Even luckier, our apartment had a hard rubbish removal day a few months after we arrived and we were able to salvage some really awesome things including our tv table, rug and a big table we used for a while as my desk. We managed to get the antique couches from a family downstairs who were collectors but also out of room. They were my favorites for a very long time but they were in very bad shape. I wanted to restore them completely but they were too far gone for me so I ended up having to give them away in favor of something newer. I hope the lady that has them now can restore them to their former glory!
You guys will remember that I made some removable curtains for the middle window. We struggled with them for around 6 months before I decided that they just didn’t fit with the look. I absolutely adored them but with the door being broken behind them and therefore very hard to open in Summer they had to go. I actually prefer it this way now that the cherry blossoms are up because it gives a complete view when all of the blinds are up. I reused the fabric from one of the curtains in the bedroom which you’ll see later and once the window is properly fixed I will think about putting something similar back up again.
Changes made:
Still to be done:
Final thoughts:
I love my lounge room now. This is possibly the room I love the most. This room has gone through the most changes since we moved in but it’s the one I’m the most proud of. When I sit and look out the window at my special flower area I feel relaxed and that’s really what this was all about!
Bonus progress photos:
The tv area with the first version of the inspiration area on the left. The table next to it used to be just full of whatever junk I was using at the time and needed to clean away quickly.
The day our new couch was delivered the whole place was super messy and trashed. They delivered the couch broken too so we had a week and a half trying to fix everything >_<
I was so happy to get rid of the red rug, it made the room so much brighter!
The end of couch moving day, enjoying being comfortable. Lottie totally approved of having her own place on the couch now ^_^
My pretty area started out as Lottie’s area while we were toilet training her XD
Everything was very Lottie-centric at this point ^_^
Make sure you come back tomorrow for the next instalment: the kitchen!
So almost a year ago I started The Home Sweet Home Project. It was my aim to stop procrastinating about decorating my house and actually do it. We rent and because of that I had a tendency to not bother with decorations or actually making places feel like home as I didn’t know where we would be in 6 months or a year. It didn’t seem like a good mentality and almost a year later I can say that I’ve made a lot of really positive changes both in our home and the way that I look at things.
The day we moved in, I was so excited:
The first meal we ever had in the apartment, James got Subway and I had Okonomiyaki. Note the lack of furniture and the cardboard boxes next James which will soon be turned into furniture XD
So what was I trying to get out of this project and do I think I’ve completed it?
Me putting together my cardboard furniture right after moving in. Having to cut up all of those heavy boxes really cut up my hands too:
So overall I think I’ve made a pretty damn good go of this project and while I know it’s never going to be completely finished I can be comfortable at calling this finished :D
For the next week I’ll be posting one room per day with before/afters and everything that’s happened in between. I hope you enjoy them!
Today’s Morning Make Up is simple and good for every day looks. It’s basically my go to style which involves minimal effort. I love looking good but I’m so lazy in the mornings XD
It’s still Winter in my mind so here’s another very basic nail video featuring some snowflakes!

Miss Lottie’s fanclub totally spoils her rotten. Kim, who is her #1 fan bought Lottie an adorable strawberry house!
She absolutely loved it so I decided to customise it to match the lovely card Kim painted too!
It feels like I’ve been doing a lot of outfit videos lately but they are so much fun! I feel like you can get a better sense of how an outfit really works in a video.
Today’s is a pink school-ish number. I wore it when James’ parents were visiting. We played pool and I cheated won fairly because of my awesome skill.
An easy hair tutorial too, this one is good for summer and even better if you like braids but can’t work out how to do them around the head! It’s a basic side ponytail but the back is all twisted!

One of the things I wanted to make in the Home Sweet Home project was a notice board. I made one when we lived in Brisbane but it was too big to bring with us so I have been making do since moving here.
We have a massive glass door which leads to our bedroom so I figured that was the perfect place to put one! This is the result:
Ever wanted to make your own hair curlers? I haven’t really but I did want to see if foam rollers would work in my hair so I set out to give it a try!
In the spirit of trying some new things I decided to give the peach colours from my 88 palette a spin :D Morning Make Up with peach!
I started off making a video on my tips for keeping your fringe nice in Melbourne’s insane weather and instead I got a bit carried away and did a video with 4 fringe styles XD
Time for the vlogs!
Day 7- Photoshoot!
Day 8- Walking Lottie!
Day 9- Shopping and Heatwave!
Hope you all had a good weekend! ^_^
Today’s project is a new version of my old post about glitter sneakers. Even though I haven’t done a Sneaker Sunday post in aaages I still love them and I still love customising my own!
This is my latest pair of glitter sneakers. You can see the old technique of painting the glitter sneakers in this post.
This is a really quick way to knock together some craft storage from an old yoga mat.
I was playing around with my fringe while filming a tutorial on my basic style and I did a couple of other styles too so I thought I would include them. This video has some tips on how I keep my fringe looking good in Melbourne’s weather.

I’ve been experimenting with bleaching clothing recently. I’d never really considered it until James suggested it for changing the colour of some fabric scraps I couldn’t think of a use for. I ended up playing around and getting some very cool results including this gradient shirt!
Here’s an OOTD which was filmed back when it was cold, the ocean makes it look so nice and summery but it was SOOOOO cold! I really like this outfit though so it was worth the cold haha!
In something a little more actual-summerish here’s a very simple daisy manicure. I’ve been filming things I’ve been doing with my nails while growing them out, while they’re not complete step by step tutorials I figured seeing it done couldn’t hurt!
And Lottie, I’m glad I’m actually doing these regularly now. She looks so different since these were shot though, it’s crazy how fast she’s grown!
Hope you all had a good weekend! ^_^
A new segment I’m trying out where in I show my morning make up routine for various days and chat about what I’m doing that day. Not really a tutorial, more of a random girly chat while we get ready together in the bathroom ;)

Just a quick easy video on daisy nails. It’s not really a full tutorial but I’ve been filming my nails as I grow them out slowly!

As I work through my Home Sweet Home projects one thing has always been a bit of a mystery: how to brighten up the tv area? The tv is black, the speakers are black, the stand is black, it’s all black. It’s like a black hole in the living room. I didn’t want to touch the tv or the stand so I decided to give the speakers a mini make over.
Tadaaa, slightly less black:
It’s really starting to warm up here. The hotter it gets, the lazier I get XD
Inspired by that, here is my ultimate lazy day make up!
And in another lazy-ish style, here’s how I use a crimper to get some volume at the top of my head. It’s easy and it lasts really well. Good alternative to teasing for simple styles!
And as if that wasn’t enough, here’s the laziest vlog ever :D We went to Werribee Open Range Zoo so here are some super cute animals! You know how much I love Meerkats!
And here’s two Lottie videos because I love seeing her as a puppy like this!
Hope you all had a good weekend! ^_^
The window stickers we got from Daiso were almost the first thing we got to decorate our apartment. They really made the apartment brighter and they made it a little less awkward that our windows look directly into the neighbours lounge room.
So when I brought Lottie home one of the things I was looking forward to was doing some doggie diy projects. I wasn’t counting on all of our friends and family falling in love with her and spoiling her rotten XD
It was almost a month after we got her until she was bored over her other toys and I wanted to make her something else.
She enjoys yarn so I made her a bow shaped tug-o-war thing out of the yarn she likes.
Crimpers maybe belong back in the 90′s but they can be used slightly more selectively to create lots of volume around the top of the head.

You know the whole point of growing out my nails was to do more nail art, but being so busy has meant that it was very easy to grow them out because I didn’t notice I had nails… but it also meant that I haven’t done nearly as much nail art as I was expecting to >_< I usually am in such a rush I don’t even wait for polish to dry ugh.
This is totally simple nail art for Summer or Spring… or to remind you of those warmer months. No nail art skills required!
The first video today is another request. I get many comments and emails asking for school appropriate hairstyles and looks. It’s a bit hard to answer because every school has different rules. When I was at school the thing I worried about the most was sleeping in slightly more XD With that in mind I made a video with 12 different styles which are quick, simple and don’t require much explanation. Really they’re basic styles just jazzed up a bit using hair accessories. Really, accessories are the key here to make these plain looks more interesting!
Next some cute Lottie goodness!
Next up is a rose themed outfit of the day video. I really enjoy making these :D We filmed this one in the state rose garden, so pretty there!
Now some more footage from the family visit! This pretty much wraps it up from the visit :D
Hope you all had a good weekend! ^_^

It’s time for Trifle Battle 2012!
In the left corner we have Violet’s Mini Snack SizedTrifle!
I get requests all the time for hair tutorials which can be worn at school. It’s a hard request because all schools have different rules about what can be worn and what can’t. So here is a bunch of ideas to inspire you. They aren’t full tutorials but you can get the generally idea. Pretty much all of them are just simple styles jazzed up with cute accessories.
