Win $150 Westfield Voucher- Australian Reader Survey

Sep 22, 2014 by

Morning! I hope you had an awesome weekend ^_^

As you guys know, I have recently joined a new agency and they were hoping to get some information about you guys to make sure the campaigns they pitch to me are actually relevant and interesting to you all. It’s been forever since I did a proper reader survey so I figured why not!

The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete and as a thank you, they will be sending a $150 Westfield Voucher to a random reader who submits (make sure you put in a valid email if you want to be in the running for it).

Unfortunately this time they can only send the voucher to Australian addresses (feel free to fill it out anyway!) but I’m working on a big competition which will be open internationally soon!

You can fill it out below or click here.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help and good luck!

Violet’s Big FAQ Update

It’s been quite a while since I updated my FAQ and while I was taking care of some maintenance I figured it would be a good idea to post it up here as well because I know a lot of people don’t make it to that page. If you have any questions leave them in the comments and I’ll add them here too!

Just a little note to let you guys know what’s going on with my shop!

Happy New Year, Long Time No See!

Jan 15, 2014 by

So I’ve been on a bit of an unplanned extended break. It was due to a combination of unexpected real life events, which meant I just couldn’t keep up with things online :(

But new year, new start and even though I don’t generally do resolutions I’ve been working really hard in the first two weeks of this year to make sure I have a whole lot of fun tutorials built up so that if something like this happens again it won’t matter so much. I think if I work extra hard now I’ll be able to have a bit more control over my life which would be awesome!

The schedule I’m working to this year is going to be a little different too, I’m still working to get videos filmed and edited but my aim is to have a weekly plan of:

Monday: Blog post tutorial
Tuesday: Video quick tip
Wednesday: Blog post tutorial
Thursday: Video tutorial
Friday: Blog post tutorial
Saturday: Blog post snapshots
Sunday: Run down of the week’s vlogs

The blog posts are starting again on this schedule starting today and my aim is to build up some videos to start posting them by the beginning of February.

So that’s about it, just wanted to say thank you so much for an amazing 2013, 2014 is going to totally kick it’s butt with awesomeness!!

See You In Switzerland!

Oct 14, 2013 by

So in case I haven’t mentioned it a billion times already, we’re going to Switzerland today for 10 days! YAY! I’m super excited as we’ll be spending time in both Zurich and across the border in the Black Forest in Germany. It’s going to be so much fun. This is the first time I’ve had a holiday where we’re actually going to relax and do holiday stuff (not just work) since like… 2007! So excited to eat cheese, chocolate and do very little other than take photos!

Business out of the way first, I won’t be replying to emails while I’m gone. In fact I probably won’t even be checking them so please don’t be mad if you don’t get a response from me.

I probably won’t be posting or uploading videos either so I’m not distracted on the trip. I will most likely be instagraming when I have internet access so…

Make sure to follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter to keep up to date!

Shop Open! Birthday Sale!

May 27, 2013 by

I know you guys have been waiting for ages for the new shop and it’s now finally online! Rather than having several different stores for different items (etsy, spreadshirt etc) I will now be having a centralised store on this site for everything. Yay!

I’m starting with Bergamot stickers and the first set of art prints, as soon as the prototypes arrive here I will be adding Bergamot shirts and charms again. This way will take a little more time and work but I think it’s a better solution for everyone because I have better control over quality and being able to make sure everything is perfect :D

You can visit the store from now on here.

Tomorrow is my birthday so I’ve decided to kick off with a bang and put everything at a 25% discount for the next 24 hours! Keep in mind that stocks are limited and once they sell out that’s it for this week so get in quickly!

I’ve embedded all of the items below as well to save you all some time!

Bergamot Merchandise:

[product id="18864"]

 Artwork Prints – 6×4″

[products columns="5" ids="18911, 18934, 18935, 18936, 18937"]

Artwork Prints – 7×5″

[products columns="5" ids="18946, 18945, 18944, 18943, 18942"]

Artwork Prints – Sets

[products columns="5" ids="18952, 18953"]

Thank you very much to everyone for your patience as I’ve gotten everything sorted out and I hope you find something you like!

As always requests, bugs, etc are welcome in the comments and see you guys tomorrow!

The coming year…

Jan 1, 2013 by

Holy bajeebus it’s 2013 *_*

When did this happen?? It feels like 2012 was barely a year at all! Even if it didn’t feel very long, 2012 was a really great year for me. There were some pretty terrible parts but I think we had a lot more good than the bad and that’s what counts. This last year will always be remembered as the year we brought Lottie home with us and I don’t think there’s anything better than that!

You’ve probably noticed that there have been a couple of changes here, mostly in the layout. Well really this is just the start of things that I have planned for 2013. I have a really fantastic feeling about this year, I think some massive things are going to happen.

I don’t generally do resolutions as such but there are some things I want from the year and some more changes I’d like to make.

I’d like to start enjoying life more as I’m living it rather than just looking back and thinking how awesome it was later. I’d like to stress less about things. I’d like to try to do one fun thing a day and not live behind my computer screen 100% of the time! I’d like to explore the city I live in and do some traveling.

To put it into an actual list so I feel more accountable for crossing them off, I’d like to:

  • Take Lottie to a beach because her reaction would be adorable.
  • Paint and draw more because it’s fun not because I have to.
  • Do things in general because they’re fun not because I have to.
  • Start learning languages again.
  • Go strawberry picking at a place which actually has strawberries!
  • Spend more quality time with James when we aren’t working.
  • Bake more cakes!
  • Find a way to get the Bergamot plushies into production even if it’s just locally.
  • Continue adding to my Home Sweet Home.
  • Move to a different, hopefully bigger apartment.
  • Enjoy as much of 2013 as I can without stressing about what’s going to happen later! I want to take evenings and weekends off, I want to learn to work smarter not harder and I want to enjoy life more!

I think those changes will eventually effect you guys here too because while this blog is about crafting and beauty it’s also about my life. My personal tastes and obsessions reflect here, I mean I don’t think I need to remind people when we had almost of month of pompom crafts because I was obsessed! So I guess that this post is just a beginning, it’s the foreword to the next year’s worth of posts, it’s a heads up to change and it’s extremely exciting!

So what can you guys expect this year from me?

  • Tutorials! There are lots of new ideas and techniques I want to try out this year and I will be sharing them here as always.
  • Videos! Videos are one of my favorite things to make at the moment so I want to incorporate them more here. The format of the videos is going to change a bit this year, rather than having round up posts like we’ve always had, vlogs will being going into the Snapshots posts and tutorials will have their own posts each. This means there will be 2 video posts during the week now instead of one. I think this format will allow me to write more about the videos, keep the tutorials section much more organised and add extra details to the posts including photos, tips and Q&As.
  • Hair! This is something I’ve been listening to a lot of feedback about. I understand that it’s not always easy to follow video tutorials for hairstyles so I’ll be redoing some of my old video tutorials as photos and coming up with more new photo tutorials for hairstyles.
  • Quality! I think sometimes I get really bogged down into the idea of *having* to post a certain number of things. I always want to do 7 posts a week, 2 video tutorials, vlogs, cuties posts etc plus all of the social media. With that mindset there have been times I’ve found myself last minute trying to put something together and it not being the quality I expect from myself. This year I’m focusing on quality more, I want to take amazing photos and video. I want to put the amount of time that I used to be able to put into writing posts back when I only did 3 a week.
  • A little of everything! Like I mentioned earlier, this blog has always been inspired by the things I’m feeling and doing at the time. I have a short attention span and I like to try new things so you  can bet that something new and exciting is going to take my fancy this year. Whatever it is, I can’t wait to share it all with you guys :D

So this all starts today, the new layout is inspiring me to do things. I feel like crossing things off my to do lists. I feel like busting out my watercolours. I feel like settling down with some homemade jam with brie on toast, a cup of tea and crafting!

I’m going to kick the year off tomorrow by showing you guys my completed Home Sweet Home. That’s something I’ve been working on all year and it’s nice that it’s finally come together. I feel inspired living here now and I know I can take the things that I learnt to the next house and beyond.

Anyway, total props if you managed to get through that gigantic wall of text!

tl;dr? This last year rocked but this coming year is going to be even better!

Thank you for a wonderful year!

Dec 14, 2012 by

Just wanted to say thank you for a wonderful year and show you how I made our Christmas cards this year! I guess it’s really more of a thank you than a tutorial because it goes so fast but you can pretty much get the idea!

To make your own here are the steps!

You need:

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Photo
  • Glue
  • Pen
  • Ruler

To make the cards:

Fold a piece of paper in half and cut it so that there is even space around the photo. You can trace around the photo so you know where it goes.

Draw an X between the corners.

Cut out the middle section leaving enough of it to be able to fold back and create a frame.

Fold the flaps back to create a frame and glue down.

Get another piece of paper and fold it in half.

Cut it down to the same size.

Sandwich the photo in and glue it all together.

Write a nice message inside and decorate it.

It’s a round up day today and I’m feeling so organised :D

I’ve joined Instagram (finally!) so if you’re on there too feel free to add me, my username is VioletLeBeaux!

I’ve gotten into a routine of posting Vlogs once a week again so here’s last week’s video of some puppies I saw kissing SO CUTE!!

We received a package from PureGirlBlue too and it was AWESOME!

I’ve started feeling a bit more inspired with my make up again so here’s a Morning Make Up featuring some wearable fushia :D

I had a lot of requests to do a tutorial on this style of bun which is braided upwards through the back of the head. Done and done :D

The biggest news today is that I’ve finally been able to launch my Deluxe Tutorial Packs for sale. Nothing is going to change on this site, there will still be heaps of free tutorials for you guys so don’t stress out ^_^

Bergamot Bunny T-Shirts and Competition Winner!

Jul 25, 2012 by

Drum roll please…. The winner of the Bergamot Bunny Book competition is Mereillechan with the entry she left on my youtube video:

Yays im sooo glad you have your friday videos <3

Any how I think it would be really cute and fun if you could some how have little ISpy or Find Bergamot like segment for “Bergamot”(or a weekly post or some thing ^.^) where you hide her in different little silly spots in a big picture and one has to find her, Yes James this way you can be part of the fun with your photography skills :D and possibly at the end of the year there could be a ISpy/ Find Bergamot calendar people could purchase.

I picked this one because it was such a unique idea and not something which I would have automatically though of. It sounds like it would be really fun to do as well!

There were a lot of really great entries and honorable mentions go to Ivy Au, Courtney Golding and Camille for the stories they wrote and to Alexis for making me laugh at the idea of a bitchy narcissistic panda XD

With so many awesome entries were does this leave us? Well I want to make as many of them as I can happen! I’ve written a list of all of the suggestions and (as much as I can) I’m going to give as many of them as I can a go.

To begin with, I totally agree with the requests for Bergamot themed shirts!

I’d been looking around for a supplier for a while because I wanted to wear some myself :D

I finally settled on Spreadshirt. They are located in the US/Europe so because most of you guys are from the US/Europe this will save on shipping for you.

Click here to visit the Bergamot Shirt Store!

I’m opening with just the classic Bergamot design to begin with on 4 different types of shirts (lots of colours!) and as time goes on I’ll be adding more. If there is a specific design you want to see on the shirts just let me know.

Click the image for more information, to see the other colours or to purchase!

Bergamot Bunny Shirts

I can’t wait for mine to arrive so I can use them in outfit posts :D :D :D

Also I promised I would introduce you guys to Bergamot’s friends soon! There were a lot of suggestions for Bergamot to have a boyfriend and I’m totally one step ahead, I’d been planning him for around 2 months now and I’m just drawing the story of their first meeting.

Make sure you’re following Bergamot’s website to see his debut.

For now, I’ll give you a teaser, his name is Sir Reginald T. Bunnykins mwahaha!

The Tale Of Bergamot Bunny Book Competition!

Jul 12, 2012 by

Oh my gosh so much Bergamot news today!

The Bergamot book based on The Moonlight Seedling’s name Bergamot competition entry is FINISHED! I cannot tell you how glad I am to be able to cross this one off my to do list, I’ve felt really guilty on taking so long but I think the finished product is a great start for Bergamot’s adventures and I am looking forward to drawing more now.

The book tells the story of how Miss Bergamot Bunny came to have her name and make her way from her home in an English Earl Grey tea factory to Australia.

I have a hardcover version of the book coming in the next few weeks which I can’t wait to show you guys but for now, you can download the PDF version (optimised for iPad viewing too!) by clicking the link below or you can view it in the gallery below too.

Download The Tale of Bergamot Bunny high res version (35.2mb)

Download The Tale of Bergamot Bunny low res version (11.9mb)

I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it and a HUGE thank you to The Moonlight Seedling for her original competition entry :D

In relation to that, I thought it was time that Bergamot got her own website! She now has her own tumblr which will be filled with Bergamot related drawings, comics, free downloads and other fun things (hint hint, I’ll be introducing her friends soon!). If you like Bergamot please go check out her new site!

Click here to visit Bergamot’s new site!

While we’re talking about Bergamot make sure to check out the Bergamot shop too, it’s full of all kinds of pretty jewellery and charms  :D I’ll be adding more next week as well!

Click here to visit the Bergamot Shop!

So today is a day for celebration I think ^_^ and Because of this…

I’m holding a Bergamot themed competition!

The winner will get:

  • 1 item of their choice from the Bergamot store OR a custom phone strap in their choice of colour.
  • 1 handmade Bergamot plushie.

How to enter:

  • Leave a comment on this blog entry or the Youtube video I’ll be posting on my main channel tomorrow telling me what you want to see next from Miss Bergamot. It can be anything from a story you’ve written to an idea for one of her friends, having her own facebook page, or some kind of merchandise you’d like to see her on, be creative!

Bergamot Bunny Store Is OPEN!!!

Jul 2, 2012 by

The time is finally here, the Bergamot Etsy store is finally open!

Such a relief to finally have something online! The store will have several more options added over the next few weeks but at the moment it has:

  • Cell phone and bag charms
  • Bracelets
  • Earrings
  • Plain charms that you can use in your own craft projects
Miss Bergamot herself:

It’s been a really bumpy ride trying to get this up and running, working out margins including several currency exchanges and percentages has reminded me several times why James and I are considering moving overseas >_<

I’m so proud of how this batch of charms has turned out and it’s made all of the hard work worth it! The next step is definitely still getting the plushies into production but my negotiations on that level are still going on and until I can get the costs including shipping under control without me having to lay out many thousands of dollars in advance it’s slow progress. But it is progress so it’s something else to look forward to!

In the mean time I will be putting a couple of the handmade Bergamot plushies up for auction!

I’m so happy to be able to keep crossing big projects like this off my to do list! Next step will be the Bergamot book and the pattern books :D

So enjoy some photos below or…

Click to check out the Bergamot Bunny store now!

Tokyo Kawaii International TV Show Appearance!

May 25, 2012 by

It’s airing today and it’s Tokyo Kawaii International :D :D :D

I am so beyond excited and honored to have been asked to appear on the show, especially one about handmade kawaii fashion!

Also go check out the Tokyo Kawaii.i Facebook page to let them know what you thought of the show!!

I can’t put into words how excited and grateful I am for this opportunity… being awake many hours before usual and not having had a cup of tea probably doesn’t help so I will write more about the experience when I am a bit more coherent!

Bergamot Bunny Update- Recent Artwork

May 18, 2012 by

Evening :D

I wanted to give an update on the Bergamot progress because it’s been so long!

Firstly at the moment having stuffed toys like my original Bergamot looks like it’s going to take a while longer because I need to save up the capital to actually order them. The factories have quite large minimum orders so it’s going to take me a while to save up. Sewing them myself just isn’t an option because the amount of work that goes in means a huge amounts of time. That said I do have some which are already completed and I am going to be using them as prizes in competitions coming up so please look forward to that!

Now in the mean time I have found some other options!

A lot of you mentioned in the original survey that you loved the design but didn’t have a use for a stuffed animal so I’ve been looking into some more practical ideas :D

First off, soon there will be Bergamot nail decals through one of my partners!

Secondly at the moment I’m sifting through order forms to get cell phone charms, necklaces and key charms made up. I should be receiving the samples of those very soon so I’ll finally have something concrete to show YAY!

I also promised that I would illustrate the original story that the lovely Moonlight Seedling wrote. I’ve had a lot of fun breaking out my watercolors again for this so I’ve decided that it’s going to be a series :D

Of course I’m getting a head of myself there again already haha! So this post isn’t completely a text wall, please enjoy looking over some photos of the first coloured drafts. Obviously these are just super quick photos of them but you can get an idea of the style ^_^

And once again THANK YOU to everyone that reads and supports me through this site, you are all amazing and I am so lucky to be able to do things like this!

Free Craft and Hair Tutorial Pattern Downloads

Mar 6, 2012 by

I’ve felt a bit like I’m spinning my wheels lately, working hard but never finishing anything so it’s really nice to be able to put up a project I promised almost a year ago *_*

I’ve wanted to implement downloadable version of tutorials with print out patterns for ages but it’s something that’s so time consuming it always gets pushed to the back burner.  I’ve managed to get the first 10 of them done now and updated the corresponding posts so I hope you enjoy them!

Each download features cleaned up and re-edited images, simpler instructions and a comic style layout. If you have any suggestions on how to improve future versions please let me know! Some people have suggested arrows or numbers to show which order to read the boxes in so if you think that would be easier leave a comment.

Feel free to add these to your Pinterest or Tumblr. Being able to easily add them to craft to-do lists is one of the main reasons I wanted to use this format as it can be hard to keep track of stuff you want to do from multiple websites while trying to remember the tutorial urls!

As I continue working I will be adding other extra information to old tutorials too such as patterns you can print and cut out too as well as launching my Etsy store which will have a lot of new content. So more stuff to look forward to ^_^

Click the image below to be taken to the large version or click the title to see the original tutorial post.

Jimmy America Photography Etsy Store Launch!

Feb 16, 2012 by

So as I mentioned the other day in the Round Up post, James has officially launched his shop on Etsy selling photography prints. YAY!

The reason I say YAY is that it’s something he’s wanted to do for years and he’s finally had the time/money/etc to do something like this for himself… so YAY!

Click here to visit his store or click any of the pictures below to go to specific items.

He’s starting with mounted 6×4 prints for now and will be moving up into other sizes, tryptichs and other matted versions (not just mounted) soon depending on how popular it is. He’s even talking about setting up at some local markets with a stall ^_^

And at only AU$10 a piece ;)

I couldn’t help wanting to post a couple of the shots of them on the easels because I was so excited to actually have printed copies we can display around the house XD They look amazing in person, so enjoy!

Site Black Out – SOPA/PIPA

Jan 18, 2012 by

Just a heads up that tonight the site will be blacked out as a sign of protest towards SOPA/PIPA and all similar bills internationally.

I don’t normally talk about political things here but this is such an important situation that directly effects both this site and the internet at large.

While these bills are specifically American there have been similar censorship talks here in Aus and I believe that this is something that would effect everyone worldwide.

I have problems putting my thoughts together as eloquently as others do on this topic because it’s a difficult and complex issue. I think this video explains things quite well though.

I believe in copyright laws what I don’t believe in is vaguely worded laws which leave so much room for interpretation. Rules need to be clearly defined so people can follow them  and not able to be changed when it’s convenient. And I think having no recourse for site owners or expecting them to check EVERY single page in every single site they link for its content is absolutely ridiculous.

A while ago there was talk within Australia of an internet filter controlled by keywords. This isn’t one of those “oh it won’t effect me” things, if the government decided to block the word “lolita” for it’s negative connotations that would absolutely effect both myself and so many people I know. This kind of thing would have direct effects on sites I love and use every single day.

This is not the right way to do things.

Here is a list of sites with posts explaining things in more coherent detail:

Happy Billy Idol Day… or whatever you celebrate :D

Dec 25, 2011 by

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend no matter what you celebrate :D We went to the Zoo as per our tradition this morning and it is currently storming and thundering like crazy so I’m going to curl up with some hot chocolate, admire the Christmas Billy Idol Day* lights and play some Assassin’s Creed 2. I’m having a fantastic weekend and I can’t wait to post all of the photos and videos from the zoo today! I’m going to put the Christmas Billy Idol Day Eve V-Log up tonight as usual so if you’re wondering how we celebrate check that out XD

Hope you’re all having fun no matter what you’re up to ^_^

*For readers who weren’t here last year, Billy Idol Day is what we celebrate instead of Christmas because I’ve never been a fan of Christmas but James loves celebrating special occasions so we compromise and celebrate our shared love for Billy Idol ;)

Back home but not so great because of TPG.

Dec 15, 2011 by

So we made it back home! Unfortunately our internet is down. VERY frustrating! I’ve been on the phone to TPG all morning trying to find out what the problem is but apparently it will take a couple of business days for them to investigate -_-‘

At the moment I’m using my phone allowance to update and I will probably go down looking for free wifi this afternoon so I can actually update stuff >_< I have like 7 V-Logs which need to be uploaded and lots of posts written while I was away so I’ll try to post those tonight on the 3G net too. So yes, just wanted to let you know what was going on with the lack of updates etc!

Ugh YOU SUCK TPG!! Fingers crossed it gets sorted soon, I miss the internet!

News and Updates and Social Media

Sep 10, 2011 by

Just a couple of quick social networking related updates ^_^

Facebook Page

So I finally bit the bullet and set up a Facebook page for those who want to follow that way. It has a feed from both this blog and my Cuties mobile blog and there will be regular updates there as well as random other stuff. So there’s a widget on the left if you want to like it without leaving this post or you can click here to be taken to the page. I’m still setting it all up so if you have suggestions of stuff you’d like to see there let me know! I’ve never been on Facebook too much so I haven’t researched what I can put there yet! You’re all still welcome to friend me on my personal account too of course ^_^

One of the things mentioned in my survey ages ago was requesting better sharing buttons at the bottom of posts, specifically Pinterest. Done! I have mixed results in getting it to work with the images on particular posts but you can always use the Pinterest browser plugins if you can’t get it going and want to share anything.

I’ve also set myself up a Pinterest account so if you have one of those send me the link so I can follow you, mine is over here!

Another button added to the bottom of posts, I tried to get excited about Google+ but I kept forgetting to update another social media profile >_< Anyway it’s there if you want to use it!

Another thing on the list of improvements from the survey is translation options. I’ve been scouring the net looking for a solution but I haven’t found anything yet that doesn’t either take forever to load or spit out crappy translations. I really want to install something along these lines so in the mean time I’ll be adding something like Google Translate this week. If anyone knows any good plugins please let me know so I can check them out!

I’m half way through updating all of the pages in the top navigation, I’ll be updating the galleries next though I’m debating if it’s worth it because I don’t think people generally use them XD I might look at some other options and see if I can streamline it all at least for the inspiration galleries. More thought needed!

I’ve updated the theme/layout to something more my current taste. Take a look! I’m still tinkering with the sidebar but it’s getting there.

Sidebar Updates

This week I will also be updating the graphics in the sidebars, if there’s anything particular you would suggest just let me know ^_^

That’s all for now, I’m getting more on top of things now which is a good feeling! Hope you’re all having a great weekend!

News, Features, Excitement and Blogopolis

Aug 2, 2011 by

Firstly apologies for any typos or if this is written terribly, I’ve been sick with a bad cold since yesterday so I’m quite out of it at the moment but this couldn’t wait!

Thank you!

Thank you so much to everyone who answered my reader poll yesterday, all of your feedback has given me a clearer idea on how I can make the site better for you all and where to go from here! It’s very reassuring to know that I’m mostly on the right track and a lot of you are actually enjoying my posts. I really appreciate the time you all took to write in your suggestions so thank you!

If you want to take the poll or give feedback just take a look at yesterday’s post over here.

I never imagined when I started this blog that literally thousands of people would be logging on to read it every day, the idea that people would actually be interested in silly things I write about at all makes me so happy. Having never been in a situation like this before I appreciate you guys taking the time with me as I learn how to move forward and progress! At Blogopolis I was complimented in some really heart felt ways that made me tear up a bit. I know that what I write here is hardly earth shattering or world changing, but knowing that there are some people who log on to cheer themselves up after having a bad day or to escape from their real lives for a few minutes gives me the energy and passion to keep going and make this the best site it possibly can be. Without you all reading I would be able to do half the things I do now and any success I have I owe to you guys… so thank you! I’ve learned so much since I started this blog all those years ago and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

Which brings me to my next point…

This morning I woke up this morning to a bunch of texts, emails and tweets letting me know that I was on the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age *_* Apparently there was a journalist at the Blogopolis event over the weekend who picked up my pink hair as being a new fashion trend! I’m not really up with current fashions but I really appreciate the shout out and the fact that she thought I was worth writing an article about! Thank you so much Natasha Hughes for writing the article, I’m really flattered to be in such a large publication!

Screen shot 2011-08-02 at 3.10.16 PM

And thank you to the awesome Danimezza for taking that photo of me too, I’m so glad you were at our table and it was awesome to meet you finally!

If you want to read the article and some of the funny comments that were left just visit the links below!

Silver and Pink Lacy Nail Art Tutorial Video and Poll!

Aug 1, 2011 by

I’m still catching up after all of the Blogopolis fun on the weekend so just a short video post today. Here’s a very simple nail art tutorial for a pink and silver lacy design. Hope you guys enjoy it!

I’m planning time tonight to re-upholster my couch finally so you can look forward to that post, I still can’t decide between pinstripes or leopard print, what do you think?

Also I’ve been thinking of a lot of ways to improve the site for you guys recently and get more of the reader requests I’ve got piled up actually done. I would love your input on it all so if you have a chance please take a second to answer a quick poll below on what you would like to see more/less of ^_^

Thanks so much or all of your help!

A quick update

Jun 19, 2011 by

Yesterday my laptop Sophie became deathly ill with a broken right fan motor. It looks like she’s going to be out of action for a least a week while she’s in hospital. I’ve got posts saved for this week but until she’s better I’ll be working from Edward, my 7yr old previous laptop so replies and everything might be slower than usual because well… he’s slower than usual XD

Tomorrow I’ll be posting another hair video Celeste and I made and after that is using some Illamasqua make up as temporary hair colour. Hopefully the only thing that gets pushed back is the crochet bunny tutorial because I can’t video edit on this machine (the edit software is too new to run on him).

Fingers crossed I can find a reliable non-busy, non-crazy expensive place to fix Sophie soon!

Recommendations of city based Mac repair stores would be greatly appreciated!

Have a good weekend, I’m going to use the down time to do a bunch of craft projects! I’ll probably post the list of projects over at my mobile blog later today if anyone wants to see ^_^

Knitting vs Crochet: and the winner is…

Jun 7, 2011 by

Poll is now close and the winner is…

Crochet bunny!

It was a pretty close vote so what I’m going to do is have the crochet bunny as the first tutorial and then seeing as the scarf got so many votes I’ll use that as the knitting tutorial.

I’m aiming to start filming them this weekend and hopefully have the first one up next week so go get your yarn and a hook if you want to give it a try!

Beginners Crochet and Knitting Tutorials Poll

Jun 3, 2011 by

I’ve been promising to do a basic how to knit and crochet tutorial for quite a while now and here I am with the first step.

What I want to do is rather than just have the standard “how to” that you could find anywhere online is that I want to show how to actually make something useful so it’s more interactive like a big knit-a-long and by the end of the tutorial you’ve got something nice to show for it. I wanted to make something that you guys would actually like so rather than picking myself I figured we would have a poll and whatever gets the most votes is what we will make for the project ^_^

I’m not sure whether more people are interested in crochet or knitting so that’s the first section of the poll. All of these projects can easily be done with either knitting or crochet so it doesn’t matter.

These are the projects and their positives and negatives, you can cast your vote below after you read through.

Beginners Knitting and Crochet Ideas

#1. Striped scarf with pockets on the end.
Most beginners start with a scarf, I started making scarves for my dolls when I was 3 in England. This one is super easy but still has cute elements to make it interesting. It can be as long as you have patients for and there are pockets at the ends for your hands. Depending on the yarn and needle size you use you can make it suitable for most seasons. The downside to this one is that it does take a very long time to make, this isn’t a quick project if you are a beginner! While it’s an impressive end project it’s very tempting to not bother to finish a project like this when you get half way and realize how long you’ve been doing it!

Beginners Knitting and Crochet Ideas

#2. Heart face washer.
I did a brief tutorial on this one before but it wasn’t very detailed. This is very quick to make and doesn’t take much yarn so it’s cheaper too. The end product is cute too because you can use it as a wall decoration to remind you of your first project ever!

Beginners Knitting and Crochet Ideas

#3. Small basket
Again on the smaller and quicker side of projects so you won’t want to quit half way. This is a very little basket which can be used to hold hair accessories or trinkets. Not much yarn needed here either.

Beginners Knitting and Crochet Ideas

#4. Bunny Toy
Lastly we have the bunny toy which would make a really cute present for a friend or just a present for you! While it doesn’t have much actual use it’s still adorable and a good keepsake for remembering learning how to knit. Again this one doesn’t take up much yarn so is quick and cheap to knit.

All of the projects have the same skill level (they are all basically just knitting squares or rectangles) so just pick the one you like best!

Ok so please cast your vote in the poll below if you are thinking of taking part and I will do my best to come up with something easy to follow. I’m planning both video and also photos to make it easy for everyone.

Which do you want to learn first?

My Birthday!

May 28, 2011 by

Today is my birthday so no proper post because I’m off doing something that requires me to expend no effort whatsoever :D I don’t usually celebrate it but as I mentioned a while ago I’ve been in an out of character good mood for this time of year hahaha.

I think it’s because 1 year ago James and I moved in to our first apartment here in Melbourne and it’s been one of the best years of my life so far. I love the city, I love our apartment and I love all the new friends we’ve made over the last year.

It’s been one of the most eventful years of my life, to give you an idea in this last year (give or take a few weeks) I have:

  • Saved for a house deposit
  • Almost moved to Ipswich
  • Visited Victoria/Melbourne for the first time
  • Used said house deposit savings to drive down and move to Melbourne in the biggest gamble I’ve ever taken
  • Made SO many friends both online and offline and met a bunch of awesome bloggers in person that I had been chatting to for years online
  • Had my email account hacked and moved servers for the site
  • Picked up friendships that distance separated almost 6 years ago right where they left off
  • Fell in with a bad crowd (of awesomely sweet and adorable beauty bloggers who I love to death!)
  • Started blogging every day
  • Started my mobile blog
  • Wrote and posted 108 new tutorials (zomg I didn’t realise it was that many *_*) and 313 posts overall
  • Rode a tram for the first time
  • Had my nail art stocked in real shops
  • Had my hair flowers stocked in real shops
  • Dyed my hair pink
  • Opened my blog store and moved about 7000 images to my own server
  • Launched an ebook and started writing a craft book, put the craft book on hold because there was too much graphic design and site update work to handle
  • Started saving that house deposit to start things all over again!
  • Plus so many more awesome things that I can’t even remember now XD

By the numbers my most popular posts have been:

I’ve read deleted and reported 27,379 spam comments up until around August when I installed a new spam system to try and help with it. The site got 4320 real comments and I replied to each one of them too so thats 8640 hahaha :D Thanks to you guys for reading and commenting, it makes all the time I spend writing here worthwhile!

It’s been a really good year and I’ve had a fantastic time in Melbourne, I hope we get to stay here for a good few more years to come!

So what am I doing today? No clue yet, I think I’ll relax in bed all night with a book, maybe go out to some markets and to my favorite Japanese place for dinner tonight, maybe get my nails done. Earlier in the week James and I were treated to a lovely night at the Langham so I’ll post all the photos from that soon!

Hope you are all having a fantastic weekend and here’s a picture to tide over until tomorrow ^_^ Thank you all for your support over this year and here’s hoping for many more!!

News and Updates

Apr 6, 2011 by

So you’ve probably noticed the changes I’ve been slowly rolling out everywhere! Again the things I’ve been doing have been to either expand the site so it’s more interesting or make it faster and easier to navigate and load.

Moving servers recently has probably been the best thing I’ve done for this blog since getting my own domain name. Now that the site is hosted with Hostgator I have space and allowances to expand things the way I’ve wanted to for almost a year now! In case any of you are interested there is a discount/affiliate coupon for Hostgator in the side bar.

Here’s a list of what’s been done so far starting with the most exciting one…

Gallery Section!

This is the biggest change (or at least the one that’s required the most work!) I have moved off Flickr and am now hosting all of my images myself. What does this mean for you? Easier browsing!

Basically the Snapshots section has been replaced with the Gallery section which is massive and much easier to navigate. The drop down link allows you to either go to the gallery home page or head straight to a subcategory like “outfits“.

I’m still filling in things like descriptions and tags etc but with 6500+ photos that’s going to take me a while! You can also comment on and rate the photos and galleries if you like. I haven’t decided if I’ll keep that feature or not but we’ll see how it goes. In the future I’m hoping to make the Reader’s Gallery automatic so you can create your own accounts and upload photos etc that way you can write in your own descriptions and don’t have to wait around for me to find time to upload them haha! If you have any suggestions for this section please let me know ^_^

Following on from the above I have completely revamped the menu system up the top. To keep things more organised (and make room for things to come) I have moved the FAQ section under the “About” tab. You will also notice that the Tutorials tab now has a new organisational system too, more on that later. Pretty much all of the pages up there have been updated a bit too.

You will see there are two new links in the menu, “Browse Posts” and “Downloads“. After listening to a lot of feedback I agreed that it can be hard to find older posts on the site which seemed a shame. Under the Browse Posts link you can now look at old posts by category, sort through my archives or view lists of every post in certain categories alphabetically. Yay that!

For around a year I’ve been thinking how to include more interactive and downloadable content for you guys. Tutorials are all well and good but there are some times when having a pattern you can print and cut out is just the easiest way to do things. Downloads section to the rescue! Now on the new host I have space to do that finally :D It’s going to take me a while to go back and make patterns for the tutorials I’ve already done but as I do they will be added here. After that’s all finished I will add some other fun things like wallpaper and icons that I’ve made too.

It’s a big work in progress but a fun one! If there is a specific tutorial that you would like to request a pattern from let me know and I will put it at the top of the list :)

Art Portfolio!

Found under the “About” link in the menu, this one is fairly self explanatory ;)

The Tutorials is now going to be a billion times easier to navigate and maintain. At the moment every time I write a new tutorial I have to manually update that section… which sucks for you guys because I don’t have time to update it often so it is usually a month or two behind. I have changed the system so now it updates automatically, is sorted alphabetically and into category. It’s not as pretty as before because it’s just a link list but soon I will add thumbnails as well to make it easier to find something at a glance. Less work for me and easier to navigate/less clicking for you = win!

You will notice that in this tab there is also a “View by category” link which allows you to just browse through those kinds of posts if you don’t want to deal with reading through a list.

Continuing the whole easy-navigation theme of these updates you’ll notice that there have been some changes in the side bars. Mostly it’s just been moving things around and bringing more important things higher up. I’ve added one of those cute little grab badges on the left side as well in case anyone feels like using it.

Featured Tutorials Slider!

Along with the good there have been some casualties including the Recent Tutorials Slider. Too difficult to troubleshoot things for people with different browsers and internet speeds so it’s gone. That said with all of the other changes I’ve made hopefully there are no problems finding recent posts now ;)

Now what?

Well at this point (other than the basic maintenance I’ve mentioned above) I’ve finally gotten the site to a place where I’m happy with it. Now I’m trying to sort out plans for the next year and get a firm direction of where I want to go with the direction and stuff like that. From all of your feedback so far I understand that you would like more beauty related things and more videos. I’ve filmed and am currently editing 3 make up tutorials which is something I enjoy and would love to do more of. If you have suggestions of what you want to see more/less of or where you want the blog to go in the long run just let me know if the comments!

I think that’s everything! If you managed to read this far you probably deserve some kind of reward XD I don’t have anything though because I didn’t really think this far ahead… so why not go explore the new Gallery section instead :P

Thank you all for continuing to read my blog, I really appreciate you coming here and supporting me! As always, feedback, ideas and suggestions are welcome and encouraged, I hope you all like everything!

News Hosting Move

Mar 3, 2011 by

Evening all!

Just a quick note to say that I will be moving servers tonight so if there are any hiccups with the site that’s the reason. Most likely you shouldn’t notice any difference other than a couple of broken links but just wanted to keep everyone up to date ^_^

This should clear up the issues the site has been having lately  and make everything faster (hurray!) and I will have a lot more room to play around with extra features. If all goes well I’ll be able to start having things like downloadable patterns for crafts and all the other plans I’ve had on the backburner due to space/load issues :D

Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly and see you on the other side!

<3 Violet

The move is over now yay! I will be testing and making improvements over the weekend so stay tuned for that. My email went down briefly over night but it’s back now so if you tried to get in contact with me it’s back now!

If you left a comment here in the last 12 hours it will have disappeared because of the move but I will be copy-pasting them individually when I get home this afternoon so it’s all good.

It’s James’ birthday today so we’ve got lots of fun things planned including a very large cake :D

Thanks for your patience!

<3 Violet

Jan 2, 2011 by

New Year, new changes and all of that stuff ^_^ As I mentioned a while ago I’ve been working on a lot of changes to make the site better.

So as promised there’s the run down on everything and the reasoning behind it!

The layout!

Obviously the biggest change is the new theme/layout! This time I’ve gone for a thinner, squarer design. The aim is to be cleaner and a little more professional while still keeping all of my tastes in mind ^_^ It has the recent tutorial slider which aims to make browsing easier for those who are just here for the crafty things. This theme should also make things easier on the eyes for those of you with smaller screens as it’s much thinner than the old layout and handles resizing better too.

One Day in Paradise Lolita Store Competition Winner!

Dec 30, 2010 by

This morning I drew the winner of the One Day in Paradisecompetition and the lucky comment number waaaaaas:

Number 1! Hahaha in this case it really did turn out to be first in best dressed XD

Jessica from http://blogtitlehere.wordpress.com/ You have won yourself a $100 gift voucher!

Thank you so much to everyone who commented and entered the competition! I really appreciate all the support that you guys give and I’m so happy to be able to give something back :D I will be replying to everyone’s lovely comments this week and fingers crossed this will be just the start of the competitions open to international readers ^_^

Thank you for reading! <3

*Edit* As was luckily pointed out by Aimiya in the comments, there has been some confusion in the ordering of the comments. When I counted the entries and picked the winner, I went to the bottom of the post and counted the comments from there down, then paged backwards until reaching the end. I made the mistake of assuming they were in chronological order in the same way as my old theme. I was completely wrong and so while Jessica’s comment appeared as #1, it was not actually the first comment posted chronologically. That comment belonged to Mai from portraitofmai.blogspot.com. No one’s fault but mine, I should have been more vigilant in checking the dates of the comments and I completely apologise for that. To resolve the situation fairly I have decided to give both girls the voucher prize, one donated from One Day in Paradise and one out of my own pocket. That seems like the only right thing to do. Again sorry everyone for the confusion and thank you to all of you that entered and commented! */Edit*

Dec 13, 2010 by

So as you can probably tell by now I’ve been doing some cleaning up around the site ^_^
There are a whole lot of changes happening so please excuse any problems over the next few days! As you can see there are still lots of things that need tweaking but it’s getting there :D

I’ll still be posting normally in the mean time (starting from tomorrow as I’ve been staring at the screen too long today hahaha!) and once everything is completely sorted I’ll do my usual post with a complete list of changes and the reasons behind them all.

In the mean time I hope you like what’s been done so far of the new layout and have a lovely night!

The Australian Blogger Listing Registry!

Nov 29, 2010 by

I’ve been a little bit distracted lately! Lots of really important things are going on at the moment which involve lots of change and hard work… but hey when is that not the case right? XD

One of the projects I’ve been working on I’m happy to announce is now officially online!

It’s called The Registry and it is a categorical listing of Australian blogs. It’s not very big yet, I’ve only got a couple of hundred blogs on there so far but it felt like it was time to launch so here it is! Go take a look, you could spend hours going through all of the really awesome blogs there and if you have an Australian blog please do submit it!

The Registry!

Secondly I couldn’t leave you without any pictures so please enjoy the photos from this year’s Nuffnang Christmas party!

Here are a couple of my favorites from the night, you can see the rest in the side show at the bottom ^_^

The party’s theme was “Blue Hawaii” so everyone dressed to match! This was the most Hawaii-ish outfit I could think of with my limited wardrobe XD

Nuffnang Christmas Party 2010

Celeste and I made everyone their own little flower hair clippies and cookies with hibiscuses piped on… except they kind of melted in the car on the way so they looked a bit psychedelic XD

News and Updates

Nov 21, 2010 by

Lots of things to talk about today so I’ll jump right into it…

On Friday my Gmail account was hacked. The person that did it sent out a spam email to everyone on my lists pretending to be me and trying to get people to sign up to some site and buy a cheap Mac Book Pro. THAT WAS NOT ME. The hacker deleted my last 2 month’s worth of emails and then deleted my entire contacts list so I couldn’t warn anyone that it wasn’t me :(

If you received that email please don’t click the link in it. From what I can tell it’s just a phishing scam trying to get you to enter your details into it. However if you did get that email it would probably be a very good idea to run a virus scanning program just in case.

So in light of that and in light of Gmail being completely useless in helping sort it out I am switching to my self hosted account. From now on if you need to contact me please use:

Violet AT violetlebeaux DOT com

I will be disabling the contact form for a couple of days until I can get everything under control again. Thanks for your patience!

Felt Crafting Again- Yummy Tart ^_^

Nov 4, 2010 by

First thing!

Lately lots of people have been asking me questions about blogging so I will now be holding a weekly “Ask Violet” session. If you have a question about blogging you would like to ask me just click here to submit it.

I’ve been a little stressed out with work and a whole lot of other stuff lately so I haven’t been doing as many crafts because I just haven’t had time. This weekend I am going to take both days off to de-stress and craft. Expect a whole lot of tutorials coming from that! One (just to tease you :P) will be about making a cupcake tier thingy out of household objects ^_^

In the mean time I’m going to show you how I made the last of my felt foodie things from Retro Jet Girl!

The delicious tart thingy :D

Preview of Blogging in Style eBook and Review of Blurb

Oct 15, 2010 by

So as you all saw in the last Snapshots post I received a hard copy of the blogging ebook I’ve been working on.

Firstly I just want to clear up something, some of you were under the impression that this was the craft and tutorial book I’ve been working on, that is not the case ^_^ This is a basic guide to starting and maintaining your own blog which I have *also* been working on. So I’ve been writing two books (which is why I as being run so ragged!)

Blogging in Style

Site Updates ^_^

Oct 14, 2010 by

It’s all workworkwork around here ^_^

I’ve been progressing with the clean ups and updates to the site. This week I have made the following changes:

  • Updated the Tutorials page to include all tutorials up until today.
  • Updated the Snaps page with all new videos. Also updated all of the galleries with about 50+ new photos
  • Completely overhauled the FAQ page. Now everything is divided into categories with drop down answers for much easier browsing. Removed the search area as no one used it, please use the side bar search now.
  • Completely overhauled the Links page. Again, now everything is in drop down categories and alphabetical order. I have added a huge amount of links to blogs I’m currently reading. I am hoping to update this every few months now.
  • Please note that the shop is currently undergoing maintenance to make browsing easier so it will be out of commission probably until next week.
  • Minor updates were made to the About and Sponsors pages.
  • A new form was installed on the Contact page as the old one was accepting messages but not delivering them to me >_<
  • Back end changes were also made to reduce general load times of the site.

So what’s coming next? Over the next week I will be making these changes:

  • New updated banner image to match the new background.
  • Shop updates to make browsing easier, new checkout system and new items added.
  • New drop down system for posts. This one is probably the most important one as it will effect browsing. Basically what I am planning to do to all of my posts is create a drop down effect so everything loads much quicker for those who don’t have as fast internet. This will also mean that you will be able to view more posts on the front page of the site. It will not be like traditional blog excerpts as you won’t need to click to a separate page to read the full post. When you click the link, the rest of the post will drop down below it. Hopefully this makes it less annoying and quicker to load! This will be the same on the permalink pages of posts as well so that if you have read the post on the main page (as according to my stats, most people do) and then click to leave a comment you now won’t have to scroll down through the whole thing again. Each post will have a teaser image before the drop down so you can get an idea of what the post is about and if you want to read it.

Here is an example of what the typical post will look like soon ^_^

I have been playing around with my monogram a whole lot lately. I drew it a couple of months ago but never really put it on anything.

monogram! copy

I decided to try to use it a bit more because I really like it so I made a wallpaper for my laptop. Haha now I can stare at myself all day woohoo self involvement! XD

News and Site Updates…

Sep 28, 2010 by

You’ve probably started to notice some of the changes I’ve been making around here ^_^

The smaller things I’ve done are…

  • Revamp my Twitter widget image to make it cuter/load faster
  • Moved all the widgets around
  • Added a new “Popular Categories” section on the right sidebar
  • Reworked the “Quick Links” section on the sidebar for easy access and quick loading
  • Added a “Subscribe by email” option in the right sidebar
  • Added “Cuties” section to menu bar (more on this below)
  • Added awesome spam killing tool. Please note if your comment looks like spam (or has a couple of links) you will be asked to fill in a captcha code. I know they are irritating but having to go through 300+ spam comments a day was too time consuming for me to keep up with :(

Next on my list of things to do with the site are…

New Background!

Sep 12, 2010 by

I am about to fall asleep on top of my computer but I thought I would quickly show you one of the other things I’ve been working on! New background :D

I’ve been so sick of looking at the old black background that I decided to spruce it up a bit. There will be a new header to match and a lot of behind the scenes updates soon but this is all I have time for right now. I just didn’t want to look at the black anymore!

It’s best viewed on a large monitor, this is how it should look:

I’m going to do a proper news and updates post later this week with a list of posts I’m planning but I just couldn’t wait for this ^_^

I hope you’ve all had a great weekend, I’m off to bed.

Night night :)

Outfit Of The Day and Web Tinkering

Aug 3, 2010 by

Hello all!

Again due to a couple of unexpected problems I can’t show you the post I was planning to today :( But I promise to put it up as soon as I can and here’s an outfit in the meantime ^_^

A lot of you requested details of my outfit from the Koko Black Meet Upso here they are!

Outfit From Koko Black Meet Up

So in the top links section you will now find that I’ve combined the “Violet Vision” and “Snapshots” pages into one to make it easier to find whatever media you want. I have also added a “Store” link which will take you to the nail art store! I am hoping to update the store this week with a lot of deco projects I’ve been working on so stay tuned there.

Probably most importantly I have re-arranged the “Tutorials” page. Before it was quite difficult to navigate and update but now everything is sorted into categories and in gallery form. This should make it a little easier for everyone and I’ll be able to keep it more current!

I’ve also updated the “About” page. A lot of people have been asking for my Facebook lately so all of that information is there now as well as other social networks you might want to add me on! A while ago I added “Like” buttons at the top of all of the posts too which is pretty fun!

*edit* Oh I completely forgot! I also added the feature so you guys can have avatars in the comments, if you want one you just need to register at Gravatars. Even cooler, I’m trialing CommentLuv. Basically it means that if you have a blog it will automatically link your latest post! Cool huh? I’ve heard that this might slow the site down a bit so just trialing and seeing how it goes. I want to give you guys some blog love though since you’re nice enough to come visit mine!! Let me know what you think! */edit*

Hope you’re all having a great day and let me know if you have any questions, comments or suggestions on how I could make the site easier for you to use!

Finalists in the Celebration Give Away!

Jul 28, 2010 by

Hi lovely readers!

I’m very excited to announce the finalists for my Celebration Give Away :D I couldn’t believe how many people entered and the quality of the entries made it really hard for me to choose the 3 for you to vote on, I even had to ask James to help me! So without further ado…

Invitation: A Bit of Chocolate Heaven at Koko Black Melbourne

Jul 12, 2010 by

Just a quick note tonight…

That’s right there is a Nuffnang blogger meet up happening in Melbourne and Penny from Jeroxie (Addictive & Consuming) and I are organizing it ^_^

So if you happen to be in Melbourne and you looooove chocolate as much as I do you should come and join us at Koko Black in Collins Street at 1:30pm Saturday the 24th of July.

If you would like to come along please RSVP here: A bit of chocolate heaven at Koko Black so we can keep track of everyone.

I’m hoping this will be a really good chance to meet a lot of you lovely people in real life instead of from behind the keyboard and because it’s a bigger event hopefully you won’t be too shy to come and say hello ^_^

We hope to see as many of you as possible on the day! :)

Let me know if you’re coming so I can look out for you!

A little note..

May 25, 2010 by

I was planning another big tutorial yesterday but a lot of things happened which made me very upset and frankly not in a mood to blog at all.

It has come to my attention over the last few days several unscrupulous people have been stealing my work from this site. A couple of you wonderful readers have emailed me and left comments about others online taking parts of my blog, be it photos, writing or whatever else and claiming it as their own and I’ve had about enough of it.

Outfit of the day Post- Nuffnang Meet up!

May 12, 2010 by

Ok clearly I haven’t been cam-whoring enough lately because you girls have actually been asking for outfit photos!

I suppose I have been doing a lot of crafts XD

I think it’s because I’m trying to use up a lot of my supplies before we move so I don’t have to bring them with me!

So a couple of weeks ago Nuffnang threw James and I a going-away party :D

This was my outfit for the night…

Nuffnang Meet up

I hope you weren’t too distracted from the outfit by the hideous carpet!

Heehee I made a new hair bow from the left overs of the Nuffnang shirt, it says “We <3 Bloggers”!

Nuffnang Meet up

Of course it was a fairly small turn out because for some reason Brisbane bloggers don’t like hanging out! We had a blast though! Below left to right is Wouter, me, Tash and James is taking the photo.

Nuffnang Meet up

I’ve been trying to take more effort with my make up lately too and try out looks I wouldn’t normally wear. The next day I tried out this purple/pink eyeshadow combination and I really like it!

Nuffnang Meet up

I’m loving anything with glitter in it at the moment ^_^

Nuffnang Meet up

I’m wearing my green lenses here. I love how much they contrast!

Nuffnang Meet up

And one without the flash to show the sparkles:

Nuffnang Meet up

The biggest news I have today is that in 10 days James and I are moving down to Melbourne! EXCITING!

What this means is that for the week leading up to leaving and the week we get there I am going to be crazy busy trying to find an apartment and setting everything up there. I’m still going to be posting as usual and I’ll schedule posts for when we’re driving down but it means I won’t be able to reply to comments and emails as quickly as I do now because we won’t have as stable internet.

Don’t worry I promise I will answer every single comment and email eventually, it will just take me a little while!

It’s a really big move for us and hopefully it will lead to lots and lots of really exciting things in the future so please bear with me for now! We are driving all the way down so I’ll bet there are going to be lots of silly road trip photos and videos for you soon :P

Have you guys ever moved city before? It’s a bit scary, I think I need a moving cities outfit ;) Love Violet

Updates to the site ^_^

Apr 4, 2010 by

Hello everyone!

So by now you’ve probably noticed the little changes I’ve bee making to the website. My aim is to make it easier to read and nicer for you guys!

These are the changes that I’ve made so far:

  • Widened the middle column so there is more room for the post and bigger pictures
  • Changed the fonts to a more readable colour and size
  • Changed the middle column background colour to make it more readable
  • Changed the header’s colours to make the site brighter and more readable
  • Widened the side bars slightly so I can add some more bits and pieces
  • Added a new page called “Snapshots” which is a gallery of my favorite photos in the categories Outfits, Nail Art, Deco and Crafts. This way if you just want some quick inspiration you don’t need to look through a bunch of posts ^_^
  • Added a new page called “Violet Vision” to keep a compiled list of all of my videos in one place. I still need to add a couple of videos to that section this week.
  • Did a lot of work on the back end of things to make the site run quicker and more efficiently. It’s never going to be the quickest site on the web due to all the pictures but with the work I’m putting in it should load in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Added a mobile version of the website. Now if you are logging on to the site with an iPhone/Blackberry/Other smart phone you won’t have to wait forever for the site to load, you should see a cut down version with minimum formatting. All of the pictures inside the posts should be in tact just smaller and more optimized for your phone ^_^ If you don’t like it you can turn it off at the bottom of the screen and view normally.
One cool thing you can do if you have an iPhone is actually make a bookmark which appears as an App on your home screen :D When you’re on the site just tap the “+” icon on the bottom and click “Add to Home Screen”. It will add a cute little button with my logo to your other apps and next time you want to visit instead of going through Safari, just click the app!
  • Moved the Search page at the top to within the FAQ page as no one ever used it. I will also be adding a smaller search section to the side bar so it can be seen from every page later this week.

I think that about covers most of the issues we talked about in the poll the other day, if you have any other comments of suggestions just let me know in the comments.

On a complete side note, I’ve just gotten a LookBook.nu account so if you’ve got an account come and friend me :D

So what do you guys think? Also tomorrow post is going to finally be the tutorial on the hairstyle from the above outfit… I know you’ve all been waiting for that!!

Features, Discounts and Housekeeping :D

Mar 16, 2010 by

Evening everyone! Ok so tonight I’ve just got a couple of things to take care of before we get back to regular posting tomorrow.

  • Firstly remember I did a review on Skin MD moisturiser a few months back? A lot of you had questions about where it was available and if it would be available in Australia any time soon. Well they currently don’t have plans to stock in physical stores in Australia but they do ship internationally. The only thing with this is that a bottle costs $18 and the shipping is another $9.95 which is not exactly cheap when you haven’t used the product before :(

Violet to the rescue of your bank balances!

If you want to order and you enter the promotional code “VIOLET” you will receive 20% off your order!

I know I’m going to be stocking up :D

  • Secondly my blog has also been featured on lots of other blogs lately !

I did an interview with Pretty Wonderland about blogging.

I was featured on All Women Stalk in the post 7 Great Fashion Blogs.

I was featured in a “blogs we love” post on The Beauty Stop.

Tabby over at Life of Mine wrote this adorable post about me.

I’ve also been receiving some lovely emails from you all and I just wanted to say thank you all for continuing to read my blog. I hope I can make it even better in the future!

  • Following on from that in an effort to make things even better around here I’m going to be making a couple of changes. Nothing major, just a few things here and there so please don’t mind as I tinker with the site. If something doesn’t work please let me know and I will fix it up! If there is something that you want to see on the website I’ll be putting up a little poll so you can have your say ^_^
  • There is also a competition coming up for you all to look forward to!

Lots of love!

Mar 8, 2010 by

Today I wanted to give you guys first pick of my new nail art for sale ^_^

This is all going up on the Etsy store soon but I want my blog readers to have first preference. I’ve also made a few of those bow and heart rings that you all loved so much on Twitter. All the information on ordering is down the bottom, I hope you enjoy!

Dec 23, 2009 by

Ok everyone sorry for the delay but I’m back online now and better than ever!

Now it’s a few days late but here is the official announcement of the winner of the deco headphones :D

I had my lovely assistant James help with drawing a winner.

DSC_0026_091222_4900 copy

We made cut outs for all of the entries, put them in a mixing bowl and stirred.

A tiny absence…

Dec 16, 2009 by

Sorry everyone for randomly disappearing for a while!

On Monday we can home from Christmas shopping to discover that we had no internet >_< James’ parents are changing internet providers and didn’t realize that it would take 5 working days for the switch to be made. For those 5 days we have no internet so no updating for me! I’ve snuck out to my Dad’s house to catch up with all my clients so just a quick update.

For those who haven’t yet make sure to enter my give away competition for the deco headphones, it ends this Friday! If I’m back online by then the winner will be announced on Monday, if not it will be the first chance I can get online. Any entries after midnight Friday won’t be counted.

I hope you are all doing really well and having fun!

See you next week :D (or see you tomorrow night if you’re coming to the Nuffnang party!)

Nuffnang Christmas Party

Dec 9, 2009 by

Ok this doesn’t count as the Day 3 post, I’m going to do that later today (I’m still editing the photos!).

Nuffnang Christmas Party!

But I really wanted to let you all know about the Nuffnang Christmas party because all of your Australian bloggers are invited and you don’t even have to be a Nuffnang member to come!

We are having one in most Australian capital cities so make sure if you’re in Aus you come down to one :D

They are being held simultaneously on the 17th of December and if you’re in Brisbane you better get down to Bohemia in the city and party with me and James!

The theme of the party is BLUE so if you come make sure you wear something pretty and blue!

The best part is that in the Brisbane party we’re going to have a Nintendo Wii competition on the big screen!!

You can find more information HERE.

Or just go ahead and RSVP here.

Are you Brisbane bloggers going to come and play Wii with me?

And the competition winner is…

Goodbye Blogger, Welcome WordPress – new blog space!

Dec 4, 2009 by

I’m so glad you made it over to the new site ^_^ I do hope you’ll keep coming back!

So why the move you’re probably wondering? Well after using Blogger for a year I found that I was outgrowing it, I wanted to do more cool things for you guys and I wanted to customize a lot of things that I wasn’t able to in Blogger. I’d been meaning to do this for a while and meeting so many other awesome bloggers at the Asia Pacific Blog Awards made me get my act together ^_^ So here I am with my own brand spanking new website!

I imagine that you’re probably wondering what to expect from now on? Well it’s still just me talking about pretty things. There will be nail art, hime gyaru, tutorials, reviews, outfit posts, baking, deco and other shiny things just like the old blog. I’ll be doing more videos and more of your requests so check out the new contact page. The only things that will be different is the address you type in to get here ;)

One difference between this blog and the last is that there are pages up the top, feel free to have an explore and let me know what you think! What do you love and what do you hate? Is there anything you miss from the old blog? I’m going to be tweaking things over the next few weeks so let me know!

To celebrate the grand opening of this blog I’m going to be holding a week of creative cute fun. Starting from Monday I’ll post something every single day for 7 days that you guys have been asking for! I will also be holding a competition for all of you that make the switch here so update your bookmarks and stay tuned :D

ACEO Friday!

Dec 4, 2009 by

Hello everyone it’s time for ACEO Friday again :D

Today is the last day you can vote to name my new camera so head on over to the side bar and cast your vote~

I thought this ACEO was quite fitting for today as I feel a little bit like Alice running around everywhere *_*

It’s a little strange, this is going to be my last post in this blog! For the next post (on Monday) I’m officially moving over to:

Exciting! I think you guys will really like it in my new home, there is a new layout and it’s going to be more fun and interactive :D I’ve still got Google Friend Connect active so those of you who “follow” me here just need to add yourselves using the sidebar on the new site again. Everyone else just update your browsers!

To give you a bit of an incentive to move over to my new address I’ll be posting something awesome every day for the first week (starting on Monday)! I’m going to have things you guys have been asking for like the video tutorial on how to make the leopard nails, craft tutorials and heaps more. There is even going to be a very cool competition… I don’t want to give it away yet because it’s not quite finished but it involves deco!

So come on over to the new site and let me know what you think of everything ^_^

Love you all and I hope to see you at www.VioletLeBeaux.com!

As always click the image to be taken to the ACEO etsy store.

Nail Art… wow it’s been a while!

Dec 2, 2009 by

It has been quite a while since I did a post just on nail art hasn’t it?!

I think that’s probably because I’ve been so crazy busy with moving house and everything else I just haven’t had time to do anything fun and time consuming like that. Now that we’re all settled in I’ve finally had a chance to have a little relax and do something for myself ^_^

DSC_0001_091127_4191 copy

Yep leopard print! I’ve been a little bit obsessed with leopard print lately!

Name My New JVC Picsio Competition :D

Nov 24, 2009 by

Hey everyone, I have something a bit fun for you all today :D So as you would all know I’ve been doing some fun videos lately and to do them I had to buy myself a new video camera. I wanted something HD but small enough that I could just pop it into my handbag.

After much umm-ing and ah-ing and comparing of specs I decided to buy a JVC Picsio.

I think I made an awesome choice because not only is it cute, for a tiny little thing it’s good quality too. I’m going to leave the technical review to James when he gets a chance but if you want to read more here is a good review which compares all of the current mini HD cameras on the market.

Dominos Pizza Complaint Update

Nov 19, 2009 by

So you’ve probably all read my post on my Dominos Pizza experience here. A couple of things have happened since that post so I thought I would update you all…

After I made my post I forwarded it to the complaints department at Dominos. They contacted me with the same copy-pasta (pun completely intended) response about how they adhere to safety standards etc that they anonymously commented with in the blog post. After a few emails back and their complaints department said they would forward my complaint to the franchise owner and send me a voucher.

Yesterday this turned up… It’s a voucher for 2 pizzas, garlic bread and a coke delivered free. The fine print says “A charge may apply to Big Taste Pizzas, half ‘n’ half pizzas, additional toppings, indulgent crusts and promotional pizzas. Valid for cash payment internet orders only.” They included a hand written note which says “Enjoy” which I thought was pretty damn funny. I don’t think I’ll be using the voucher but perhaps one of my friends would enjoy it.

This is the service I expected in the first place. And while I totally appreciate that it *might* have taken this long for the owner to actually find out about the situation, it really shouldn’t have.

While I am happy to have my money back, I honestly don’t think that they would have taken any notice of my complaint at all had I not been complaining very loudly on the internet. I know this because of all the stories I heard from you guys with similar complaints that were never settled!

Food for thought and there is the end of my Dominos Pizza tale ;)

Back home

Oct 28, 2009 by

Hello everyone! This is a super quick post to let you all know that I’ve arrived back home in Aus safe and sound.

I have over 600 photos of the trip so I’m working to edit them now but unfortunately I’ve become quite ill from doing too much while away! So I’m taking a day or so to try and kick this flu thing and then I’ll put everything up online for you guys to see! I made so many new friends over in Singapore so I want to do the post justice!

<3 you all and we’ll chat soon!

P.S. Omg I am one off of 100 followers!! To celebrate I’ve got a couple of surprises planned! You guys rock :D

What’s going on in Singapore…

Oct 22, 2009 by

Hi everyone! As you read this I’ll probably be on the plane to Singapore heading to the Nuffnang Awards ^_^

I know some of you don’t have Twitter so I thought I’d put in my Twitter feed here so you can see what I’m up to! I’m hoping to update while I’m over there but if not check out what I’m doing below and don’t forget to say hi!

Exciting news and decoden!

Oct 18, 2009 by

That’s right everyone! We both won tickets to the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blogger Awards with our Pringles competition entries! OMG SO EXCITING!

Thanks so much to Nuffnang for paying for our tickets and accommodation! We are so grateful for everything and can’t wait to meet all the other bloggers going!

New Layout Artwork

Sep 19, 2009 by

This week’s artwork post is a little bit different to usual…

I’ve completely overhauled the layout to the blog complete with new cute version of me on the banner :D

Over the next week I’m going to be working out all of the kinks so if something doesn’t work or you don’t like something let me know and I’ll do my best to fix it up.

I’m just about falling asleep on the keyboard at the moment but these are some of the other changes which will be made tomorrow:

  • Fix all broken/crappy widgets and get them to match the colours
  • Add sponsors page
  • Add about me page
  • Add find me online page
  • Find better label/tag cloud. I saw a cool spinning one the other day but I’ve forgotten where, suggestions?
  • Anything else you guys point out…

Btw can someone tell me if the Twitter feed on the right is working? It’s not working on my computer but the code appears to be correct and I’m on a Mac…

So what do you all think of the artwork?

Don’t worry I’m still blogging, I haven’t forgotten about you!

Aug 4, 2009 by

Yes this is one of those annoying times when real life gets in the way of internet life. So what’s getting in the way? Well work mostly. We’re at a crazy point right now with a lot of projects finishing and starting at the same time so I’ve been working for like 15 hours a day, not very fun even when you have an awesome job. At the same time I’m learning to code iPhone applications (which hopefully you all will eventually benefit from!) which is hard work but fun. And on top of that for a limited time only I’m taking very cheap art commissions for some extra play money (interested? Email [email protected])

Back! Outfit of the day, the world of Violet’s Shoes (Mini Tutorial)

Jun 22, 2009 by

Outfit time!

Firstly thank you all for your well wishes while I’ve been ill! It made me feel much better every morning to wake up to everyone’s lovely comments :) I’m all rested up now and should be fine to blog 3 times a week again!

Now a couple of people have asked me how I did this. It really couldn’t be simpler.

Step 1. Buy cute simple shoes on sale. Step 2. Buy matching flowers. Step 3. Get some thread and a needle and sew the flowers on to the shoes. Note, don’t sew through the leather just in case you ever change your mind! Step 4. Enjoy your new awesomely cute Hime-Style shoes :D

See easy…

Lastly are any of you guys who use Nuffnang having problems when you log in? I can log in but I my stats won’t seem to show up… Just wanted to know if I’m the only one before I go and bug tech support!

Anyway it’s good to be back! Hope you enjoyed the outfit post ^_^

Hey guys, I’ve been pretty unwell for the last week so I haven’t been around as much.

I have to get back to work today but I don’t want to over work myself so I’m going to take a break from blogging for a few days.

If you need to get in touch urgently email me at [email protected]

I’m so tired though, having the flu is really crappy. My immune system has been knocked around so much from the last 2 years of illness that I manage to pick up pretty much every little bug that comes along… yay.

Anyway after having heart palpitations all week James has finally convinced me to take it a bit easy for a few days. I even spent the weekend in bed, those of you who know me well will know how painful not being busy is for me!

To keep you interested here are some of the posts I’ve got planned soon:

-Decoden Tutorial, I’m covering my new laptop in jewels
-Hime shoes, how I decorated mine
-Inspirations and blogs that I read
-Sparkly photoshoot from the coast that I just edited
-All kinds of other cool stuff!

Talk to you all soon…

I’m back! ACEO?

What no ACEO?

Hello everyone!

I’m back saaafe and sound. I had a fantastic time even though I had to work for a lot of it and I’ve got heaps of photos to show you all!

Sorry I missed ACEO Friday this week, I promise it will be back with a vengeance next week for all your viewing pleasure along with some art I did while we were up there.

I did sooo much shopping :D My bank balance took a serious hit but totally worth it because we both got our Kevin Rudd bonuses! I capped it off when we got home with some online shopping I’ve been wanting to do FOREVER so thank you Mr Rudd! I hope I stimulated the economy enough for you XD

Once my online orders come in I’m going to use a couple of them to start writing my shop reviews, I’ve actually got a couple of ideas already so keep watch!

Thanks for keeping reading while I was gone, I’m still catching up on everyone’s blogs and I’ve got about 100 emails to get through so sorry if it takes me a few days to reply right now :)

Apr 17, 2009 by

I’m going to be out of internet contact for about a week. I will still get online to check up on everything if I can though!

I’ve got a couple of posts set up and ready to go so enjoy them!

Expect lots of beach photos when I get back :D

Mwahaha Konad nail art and big news

Apr 9, 2009 by

Hurray more konad nail art, that’s what you’ve been waiting for!

Hello everyone! I have some big news this post… I’m Nuffnang’s featured blogger of the month :D

Come and check it out here: http://www.nuffnang.com.au/featured-blogger/bg-2009-apr

I’m very excited about the whole thing, I really love Nuffnang and I’m having a blast meeting other bloggers with them!

Now for the real purpose of this post… I GOT MY KONAD! Really this post is in homage to Brooke and her blog “Getcha Nails Did”. She is the one who convinced me to actually get it and I’m so happy! If you don’t know what a Konad is click here: http://www.konadusa.com/

Konad nail art pics ahoy!

This was my first try so it kind of sucks… but I practiced a whole lot!

Argh! I just deleted the last batch of comments by accident *_*

I only got to read the first bit in the preview too!

Sigmate- I love my iphone/Ruri :D Thanks! It’s freaking awesome, so many things to do!

Other people who’s names I didn’t see:

-I didn’t glue it to the actual phone, I have a clear case over the top!

-Don’t worry the phone is ok!

-For the love of god the phone is ok!

-Thanks for all your lovely comments, please comment again, I promise I won’t accidentally delete next time *_*

Camera :DDD

Weclome to my new nice photos care of James’ new camera!

Hurrah James just got his new fancy DSLR camera so I’m going to have awesome photos!

I bet you guys will be able to tell the difference between my crappy camera and his awesome one. You’ll just have to deal with me using up the photos I’ve already edited until I start using his though!

OMG you can actually see my individual hairs XD

Oh and we just finished shooting my Hime Gyaru hair tutorial today so I’ll post it either this week or next. Yay for big hair!

Quick note.

Feb 10, 2009 by

Ok guys, I’m going to be offline again for awhile. We’re currently in dispute with Three internet as they say we used our 6gig limit in 11 days (which is bullshit as we’ve never used more than 1.5gig in that time frame before).

So that means I’ve got no internet again unless we go to James’ Parents house and borrow theirs. My blog has a backlog of posts for the next few weeks but please note that I probably won’t be able to reply to anything here or in emails.

If it’s urgent send me a text or just email and I’ll get back to everyone eventually.

Also if someone has dealt with 3 like this before let me know because this is crap! They said I had a 15-30 (can’t remember which) day cooling off period when we signed up and now that I find out they’re triple billing us 11 days into the contract and try to cancel it they tell me there’s no such thing as a cooling off period and they want the whole thing paid off. FUCK YOU THREE! I’ve lodged a complaint with the telecommunications ombudsmen and I’ve got hard proof and screen caps to prove we didn’t use that much data, BRING IT ON!

Home again~

Squee! I’m back online guys :D I love the internet, I love being able to talk to people again, I love everything! SQUEE!

Ok I swear I’ll write something more cohesive next time!

Jan 14, 2009 by

Hey guys, I won’t be online regularly until the 26th.

See you then for regular updates and other awesome stuff!

Welcome back everyone.

Dec 29, 2008 by

Ok I’m back in business guys. I’ve got a new home here at blogspot, hopefully I’ll be staying a while! Lolita Fashion Daily is down for good, or will be soon anyway so don’t bother going back, it’s all here now.

I’m going to be making much more of an effort to keep this up this year, consider it a New Year’s resolution!

In future you’re going to find a whole lot of pictures and tutorials here, I’ve got a whole lot of plans so keep watch and it’ll be interesting for you all hopefully!

This year my focus will not only be on Lolita but also Hime and possibly some Gyaru things. Maybe just princess-y things in general. I like pretty things and I’ll be sharing them with all of you!

I hope the new year is treating your guys well and I look forward to spending it with you :D

Goodbye Lolita Fashion Daily and welcome Tales of an Ingenue!

Slowly getting back…

Feb 29, 2008 by

Ok so everything thing was lost. Even though I made a back up, it was corrupted and there is no way of me getting my old posts back :(

I’ve pretty much fixed up the look of the site again but it’s going to take a while to fine tune it again.

So much for a cruisy stress free week.
