Cel’s Deco Nail Store Review And Competition!

Jan 20, 2014 by

Today’s review is a little bit special because it’s a review of a shop run by one of my long time readers: Cel! Cel has been a reader from all the way back when I was at Blogspot and I didn’t even realise that she had opened her own store until recently when I saw some of her pieces online.

10 Travel Tips.

Hello we’re currently on holidays in Brisbane. We got back a few days ago from The Sunshine Coast and now we’re staying at James’ parent’s place.
Trip? That means time for packing tips!
I get a lot of questions about how I fit all of my clothes and junk in because I try to pack fairly light.
So I thought I would just make a video and show you guys!
Travel Tip #1.
Get the best suitcase you can afford. Hard case with 4 wheels is my favorite.
Two wheels is not enough, two wheels is never enough!
The four wheel ones are so good because you can pretty much push them around with a finger.
And I’m not very strong so I need a suitcase that wheels itself.
So for this trip I’m taking my new pink Cherry Blossom suitcase.
It’s from Hideo Wakamatsu and they were nice enough to send it to me.
My suitcase is a bit different to most other suitcases because it has a lot of other extra features.
For example it has a little coat hanger that comes with it.
It also has these dividers which unzip and then the second one on this side which clips down over here.
So when you open the suitcase everything is completely flat and nothing will have moved around which I really like.
Travel Tip #2
Use space bags or smaller bags to separate everything.
By space bags, I mean these vacuum sealed bags, I’m sure they have other names in different countries.
Even if you don’t plan on vacuuming them up they are really useful for dividing things and then if you have to open your suitcase in the airport or at your destination nothing will have moved around inside.
So you won’t get an avalanche of junk falling on you. k
Tip #3.
Bring a scarf.
Especially scarves you can crush up and they basically stay the same.
This one goes will pretty much everything, it’s light enough that it’s good for summer but when it’s bunched up it will keep you warm in the airport.
I hate being cold on planes
Tip #4
Pick good crushable fabrics.
I like to take things made of chiffon because they are floaty and breezy for a holiday but also easily crushable and they never crease.
You could roll this skirt up and throw it off a cliff and it would still look like this.
You know, unless it got snagged on some branches or something or a condor stole it and flew away and ate it because it thought it was a fish.
I don’t know what condors eat…
Chiffon is really good so I always pack lots of chiffon.

5 Ways to Wear a Jewellery Wrap.
Hello besties!
Recently we took a trip to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland to visit The Big Pineapple markets and see Jo from Earth Jewel Creations!
She makes all kinds of jewellery but her most popular piece is the wrap.
I figured today I would show you some different ways to wear a wrap and at the end there is a competition where you can win some of Earth Jewel Creations lovely pieces for yourself!
So stay tuned!
1. As a bracelet or an anklet.
Fold the wrap in the middle.
Wrap it as many times around your wrist as you can.
Don’t be too neat about it, it looks better when the strands criss cross against each other.
When you get to the end just do up the clasp.
2. As a belt.
This one is pretty easy, just wrap it around your waist.
The clasps are fully adjustable so you can slide them along and make it whatever size you need.
You can wear it loose like this or you can wrap it around twice or you could even just tie the ends in a knot to give the size you need.
Perfect swim suit accessory.
3. As a long necklace.
Just do up the clasp and place it around your neck. Done!
Depending how long you’ve left the clasps you can leave long dangles of the leather and charms down the back.
4. As a double necklace.
Do up the clasp then wrap it around your neck twice.
I like to wear it so the beads sit like a choker and the rest dangles down.
Some of the charms are also detachable so you can move them around and change where the weight of the necklace is.
5. My favorite way as a choker.
Keep wrapping it around you neck until you run out of leather and then do up the clasp.
I wear it 3 times around and that’s the perfect fit.
You don’t want it to be too tight.

Win Beautiful Bracelets From Earth Jewel Creations

Apr 9, 2013 by

This giveaway was sponsored by the Earth Jewel Creations.

For more information on sponsored posts check out this FAQ.

As you guys know, we recently took a trip to The Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. The Snapshot posts and vlogs are coming but I couldn’t wait to post about this! One of the highlights of the trip was visiting The Big Pineapple to see their new markets and meet Jo from Earth Jewel Creations. The Big Pineapple has really changed a lot since I was a kid but I’ll post more on the when I write up my Snapshots!

Earth Jewel Creations is one of the permanent stalls at the markets and having seen Jo’s handmade jewellery online before I was quite excited to try some on.

Jo was lovely enough to allow me to do a giveaway with some of her jewellery so you guys can enjoy it too, the details are at the bottom of the post!

Here I am with Jo trying on one of the jewellery wraps.

The store specialises in jewellery made from beautiful gems as well as hand stamped customised charms.

The pieces I was most interested to see on our visit were the suede jewellery wraps. They are adjustable so you can wear them a lot of different ways (one of my favorite things ever!) and they come in a lot of different colours and with different charms.

The big ball charms are detachable too so you can move them around.

Jo was nice enough to give me a White Magnesite/Pyrite wrap and I made a video on all of the different ways to wear it:

Hello welcome to the third Friday video woo!
Yeah I’m probably going to stop counting now.
I can’t count higher than 3!
So today’s video is a special one because it’s a competition!
Yay competition!
Specifically a Bergamot themed competition!
I feel the applause!
Moving on.
So, Bergamot themed competition, firstly why?
Well I wanted to celebrate the fact that you guys are still watching my videos after all of this time.
I recently passed having 100 videos on this channel which is kind of a milestone too.
The biggest thing was something I’ve been working on for the last 6-8 months and that is Bergamot’s first book!
Back in November when I first came up with the concept for Bergamot Bunny I held a competition on my blog to help think of her name.
So te winner was a lovely girl called Bekah who came up with the name Bergamot which is an ingredient in Earl Grey Tea and she came up with a super cute story too.
It’s all about Bergamot living in an Earl Grey Tea factory and finding her way all the way to me in Australia.
So for the last several months (and I feel really guilty that it’s taken me this long to do it) I’ve been drawing and painting and watercolouring a book to put the story to life and give it illustrations.
There might be a hardcover version available in a few months but I’m still ironing out the details for that.
So in the mean time to say thank you to everyone who sent me messages and visited the store and been generally supportive on the blog and everything.
I’ve set up a free download for the book on my blog, link down below.
You can download a high res version or a low res depending on your internet speed and you can also view it online on my blog.
And maybe I’ll make it into a little video too so you can view it here, that would be pretty cute.
Little page turning graphics, it would be like story time!
So make sure you check out the link in the description to get your own copy of “The Tale of Bergamot Bunny”.
The other thing we’re celebrating is Bergamot’s new website.
I’ve been working on this for a while as well, it’s getting pretty crowded on VioletLeBeaux.com so I thought it was time that Bergamot moved out.
I don’t share space well.
So now she has her own website at BergamotBunny.com
Link in the description.
So check that out.
There’s going to be new pictures and comic books all the time including desktop wallpapers and all kinds of cute stuff.
So if you’re a fan of Bergamot go and follow her new website.
Now the competition, which I’m sure is what you’re all actually waiting for.
Im still working on getting the plushies done but if you want to win your own plushie and win your choice of something from the Bergamot shop.
So for example a nice phone charm or a necklace or a necklace or bracelet or earrings or something like that.
Just enter this competition!
What you need to do to enter is leave me a comment on this video or my blog post telling me what you to see Bergamot get up to next.
It could be that you want her to have her own Facebook page or maybe she should have an adventure with a cute boy or maybe I don’t know, you want me to introduce all of her friends. I don’t know.
Be creative. Judged on creativity so be as creative as you can.
See the full transcript on the blog or on turn on closed captions.

Hello Kitty Cosmetics Competition And Review- CLOSED!

Apr 11, 2012 by

Limited edition Hello Kitty make up? Oh yes please. After my last review of the Hello Kitty range (cough and seeing my sizable collection of it) their PR department was lovely enough to send me some of the new limited edition items that are out this month and offer some prize packs for you guys!

Review first then competition details at the end :D

First up the limited edition items starting with the compact mirror.

It came in a little protective bag which was a nice touch. It’s light black plastic with a slightly shiny finish. The Hello Kitty print on the front is made from silver hologram which has a rainbow finish in the sun. It’s quite subtle but very cute.

Name Bunny Competition Winner and Round Up!

Dec 6, 2011 by

I missed yesterday because after several years talking online I finally got to meet the adorable Glo-w. So between that and going away on Thursday I’ve got a lot to catch up on today! Firstly I need to announce the winner of the name Miss Bunny competition :D This was such a hard competition to pick a winner of because there were so many good entries and so many of them fit her so perfectly. After thinking about it for several days and trying a few on them out on her I came to a decision…

The winner is Bergamot by The Moonlight Seedling!

Here’s her entry:

You seem to have found my good friend the Lady Bergamot! (Bergie for short) Bergamot was born in a field next to a tea factory in England, an Earl Grey tea factory to be precise, and grew up with her brothers and sisters. While her family was perfectly happy frolicking in the field, eating whatever was growing there, Bergamot liked to sneak into the factory and sample the fragrant tea, nibbling on the lovely scones some of the workers would leave out for her. Because she spent so much time in the factory, her soft fur became scented with the bergamot oil, so her mother named her Bergamot (though her mother insisted on pronouncing it “Berg-a-mo”, leaving the “t” silent, because she thought it sounded more fancy) Eventually, Bergamot acquired a taste for the finer things in life, and the factory workers dubbed her the “Lady of the Factory” (which made her blush so hard that it never went away!). She learned of things that normally go well with tea, such as lace and pearls and macarons. The staff made her and her family a nice cozy hutch in the garden behind the factory, decked out with soft, warm things, pink wallpaper, and all the tea and scones they could possibly want. One day a factory worker was looking a a website on her laptop, and it immediately caught Bergamot’s eye – a delicate flowery background, lavender and lilac and pink everywhere! There were tutorials about how to make cute clothes and accessories and how to do your hair and nails that all just looked sugar-sweet and perfect! Bergamot’s eyes got so wide and sparkly that they got stuck that way! The kind staff member told Bergamot all about this website. The lady who wrote it was named Violet, and she lived in Australia, and always had tea and yummy things, and loved little soft white bunnies! Bergamot was so enchanted, she wanted to go meet this wonderful lady, and maybe stay with her a while and learn how to make pretty things! However, being a bunny, she was used to being around a large family, and worried that she would be lonely with only one friend. Then the worker showed her Miss Violet’s Object of Affection – James! He could cook lovely things, many of which seemed to confuse Miss Violet, because he was from America, and they do funny things in America! So it was decided – Bergamot would go to live with Miss Violet and James in Australia, but she wanted it to be a surprise! So her flight was booked and her plans made in secret, without telling Miss Violet she was coming! She made a little bow out of a scrap of lace (to look more presentable), hugged her family and factory friends good-bye, got on her plane, and the next thing she knew, was sitting on Miss Violet’s doorstep, greeting her with her lovely bunny smile and a big box of Earl Grey tea from the factory!

The first time I saw the name I wasn’t sure about it because it didn’t seem particularly feminine but the more I said it, the more I fell in love with it because it reminded me of the stereotypical tomboyish romance novel Victorian lady who insists on being a little bit different. Now I can’t think of bunny as anything other than Miss Bergamot :D I picked Bergamot for a lot of reasons but especially because it is such a fancy original name, it gave me the idea that each different colour of bunny and animal could be named after different tea varieties :D The part in the story about James was so cute and the whole thing just fit so well with her. I’m planning to illustrate the story while I’m gone so I’ll post that when I get back too. Moonlight Seedling, I am sending you an email now to get your address and will post your bunny before I leave for Brisbane!

So please meet Miss Bergamot!

December Competition Time! Name Miss Bunny Plushie

Nov 24, 2011 by

So competition time eh? As I mentioned a while ago I’m going to try out doing a competition per month using things I’ve made for tutorials as prizes. Today we kick off the first one with Miss Bunny!

You all know I’ve been making plushies like crazy and I’m especially obsessed with the bunny ones. I’ve been so obsessed I’ve even drawn a wallpaper with her too which will be up for download next week. Problem is, I’m terrible with coming up with names and Miss Bunny seems to have EXPLOSIVE AMNESIA and can’t remember her own name or back story! OH NOES!

If you want more information about her search for a name or photos for inspiration take a look at Miss Bunny’s Day Out post.

To Enter

Make a comment on THIS entry (not Miss Bunny’s Day Out) telling my what you think Miss Bunny’s real name is and her back story. Be creative! For example, you could tell me how she got her name, where she grew up or her personality. You can post pictures or link to a blog post if you want to but it’s not required (my spam filter might catch links but I will approve them as they come in).

I will pick the winner based on creativity and which name/story I think fits the best.

The winner will receive 1 bunny plushie handmade my me.  I will include a couple of other little trinkets in the package too depending on the winner’s personal taste but the bunny is the main prize.

Entry is available to readers worldwide, void where prohibited.

Prize will be sent via Aus Post Airmail.

Entries are open from the time this goes live until AEST Midnight Thursday the 1st of December 2011.

More terms and conditions here.

You may enter more than once with different ideas.

Winner will be contacted via email.

So there you go! I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with and let me know if you have any questions :D Thanks for entering and good luck!

Plushie Bergamot Bunny’s Day Out

Nov 20, 2011 by

Once upon a time there was a bunny who still didn’t have a name. In fact, as it turned out she had amnesia… explosive amnesia!

The bunny and her owner Violet thought long and hard what her name and life story could be but couldn’t come up with anything at all so they decided to call her Miss Bunny until someone could remember who she was. Man explosive amnesia sure is inconvenient like that!

Miss Bunny was quite upset at her lack of a name and memories and so decided to venture out into the world to see if anyone knew her.

Nuffnang Competition: Rolling Stone Magazine

Oct 3, 2011 by

This post was sponsored by Nuffnang and Magshop.

When Nuffnang asked me to write about Rolling Stone magazine being a good present idea for Dads I laughed a bit, my Dad has had a subscription for like 40 years already so apparently it’s true XD Not exactly sure about the timing of this considering here in Aus, Father’s Day was almost a month ago… his birthday was in March and Christmas is months away XD Though if I said that to my Dad I imagine the conversation would be…

I wanted to do drawings of this conversation again using my awesome mini Violet doll but I’m still sick so use your imagination >_<

Me: I’m pretty sure it’s not Father’s Day

Dad: Do you need an excuse to get me presents?

Me: Well you get Father’s Day, what do I get?

Dad: Everyday is Children’s Day…

Me: So where’s my Children’s Day present then?

Dad: *insert Monty Python/Black Adder quotes*

I’m sure it’s all very nostalgic for his days in the British music scene but whenever I think/read/hear/anything involving the words “Rolling Stone” all that happens is that I get the Dr. Hook song stuck in my head. It lasts for WEEKS. I mean I *love* Dr Hook and I love the song but now every time someone mentions it I want to strangle them a bit because I know I’ll be singing this for the next month. Just so I’m not suffering  enjoying alone…

I hate major unfinished projects…

Aug 6, 2011 by

I really do. There are too many of them around my house staring at me and laughing because I haven’t had the time or motivation to completely them. Damn you unfinished projects! DAMN YOU!

I keep procrastinating >_<

I procrastinated earlier this week by entering the Kawaii.i “Kawaii Fashion Coordinate Contest”. I entered with the outfit I wore to Blogopolis, most of the photos were from my phone so here’s a decent close up of the nails/make up from the day. Voting is open now so if you like it feel free to click here and vote for me or any of the other cute entries!

Back to crafting things, here is a small selection of the projects currently cluttering my house and taunting me with their unfinishedness…

Embroidered clip top bag…

Ipad Case with included detatchable handbag…

Quilted Bag Remake…

Gigantic Monster Scarf for the beginners knitting tutorial…

Okokokokok no more procrastinating by writing posts like this, I’m going to go actually try to finish something… or at least make some kind of progress with one of these. They are all for tutorials so if you have any preference to which I finish first let me know… it might actually motivate me haha!

Reasons why Microsoft should hire me a personal assistant…

Jun 15, 2011 by

I actually previously hated the 07 Office Suite for Mac set, I found it to be slow and Word never shut down properly for me. I’ve been using various Microsoft products for Mac for 7 years now and the difference between the programs then and now is pretty extreme! You can imagine when Nuffnang asked me to review Mac Office 2011 I was full of both apprehension that it might be better and dread that it might not be. I was pleasantly surprised so yay!

The main difference I noticed using the ’11 version is that everything is faster, had fancier graphics and is more Mac designed rather than just being Mac compatible which is what the older ones felt like. Windows is really pushing the cloud mentality so there is also the option to connect everything online and get extra templates etc. The templates still look like Word templates though so you need to inject your own creativity. Over all they are definitely an improvement over the last lot, the speed difference alone is reason to upgrade considering how much time I used to waste waiting for Word or Excel to open.

You know the one thing missing from this though? Clippy the office paper clip! Sure he was a little enthusiastic but I feel it was a feature that could have been improved on… Like you know if it had been a mini version of me. That would be a pretty sweet improvement in helping me write blog post I imagine it would be so advanced it would be pretty much like having a personal assistant. In fact let’s view the conversation in the eyes of the new Clippy and me on a typical morning here…

Why I Don’t Play Board Games… Pictionary Nuffnang Competition

Jun 1, 2011 by

This post was sponsored by Nuffnang and Pictionary
For more information on sponsored posts please click here.

I’m an only child so growing up board games were never my favorite pastime. It’s kind of hard to play them with one or two people-me and my mum. James however has 2 siblings so he grew up loving them and his love has forced me into many a game of Scrabble!

So when Nuffnang contacted me to test out the new incarnation of Pictionary I was well… apprehensive. I’ve never played Pictionary before so I don’t really have anything to compare it to but I took it along to our romantic getaway at the Langham to see if we could have some fun. That’s what happens on romantic hotel getaways right? People play board games? Uhuh. Well this is what happened…

Competition- Mother’s Day, Meet My Mum.

Apr 27, 2011 by

This post was sponsored by Nuffnang and Mag Shop
For more information on sponsored posts please click here.

Mother’s Day is coming soon, here in Aus it’s on the 8th of May this year so only a few weeks left to think of things to get. I’m quite a bad daughter, I usually forget about these kinds of things. I don’t really celebrate holidays and Mother’s Day changes every year so it’s hard to remember!!

This is my Mum by the way… She didn’t like the photos I took of her so I’ve made and artistic representation of her for this post.

One Day in Paradise Lolita Store Competition Winner!

Dec 30, 2010 by

This morning I drew the winner of the One Day in Paradisecompetition and the lucky comment number waaaaaas:

Number 1! Hahaha in this case it really did turn out to be first in best dressed XD

Jessica from http://blogtitlehere.wordpress.com/ You have won yourself a $100 gift voucher!

Thank you so much to everyone who commented and entered the competition! I really appreciate all the support that you guys give and I’m so happy to be able to give something back :D I will be replying to everyone’s lovely comments this week and fingers crossed this will be just the start of the competitions open to international readers ^_^

Thank you for reading! <3

*Edit* As was luckily pointed out by Aimiya in the comments, there has been some confusion in the ordering of the comments. When I counted the entries and picked the winner, I went to the bottom of the post and counted the comments from there down, then paged backwards until reaching the end. I made the mistake of assuming they were in chronological order in the same way as my old theme. I was completely wrong and so while Jessica’s comment appeared as #1, it was not actually the first comment posted chronologically. That comment belonged to Mai from portraitofmai.blogspot.com. No one’s fault but mine, I should have been more vigilant in checking the dates of the comments and I completely apologise for that. To resolve the situation fairly I have decided to give both girls the voucher prize, one donated from One Day in Paradise and one out of my own pocket. That seems like the only right thing to do. Again sorry everyone for the confusion and thank you to all of you that entered and commented! */Edit*

One Day In Paradise Lolita Store Anniversary Competition!

Dec 22, 2010 by

This post was sponsored by One Day in Paradise. For more information on sponsored posts please click here.

Finally a competition open to international readers too, I hope you all enjoy it ^_^

One Day in Paradise is to date Australia’s first and only local Lolita store and they celebrated their second anniversary this past weekend :D

While I  personally no longer wear Lolita fashion I do still enjoy seeing it on others and I know that lots of my readers wear the fashion so when Marie (the owner) invited me along I was delighted to see what they were doing!

Early that morning Marie came over and I helped her out with her hair, she really enjoyed my tutorial on over the head plaits so she borrowed some of my flowers and I tried out the style on her. This proves that even those with short hair can try it because Marie’s hair is barely shoulder length!

Nuffnang Competition- A Blog Adventure Thanks to Kodak

Dec 7, 2010 by

This post was sponsored by Nuffnang and Kodak.
For more information on sponsored posts please click here.

I love making videos but I generally don’t have time to edit them so I don’t post as often as I would like. To celebrate the opening of Kodak’s online store, Nuffnang and Kodak gave me the opportunity to test out one of the new Kodak PlaySport pocket video cameras so I thought it would be a good chance to finally do something fun!

They asked me to share a day in my life and I thought it might be fun to cover some of the… misconceptions that people have had about me and my life in the past XD

Violet in Slumberland… Nuffnang/Magum Competition

Nov 24, 2010 by

This post was sponsored by Nuffnang and Magnum.
For more information on sponsored posts please click here.

I’ve been trying to clean up our house lately. When both James and I are spending so much time working it can get pretty messy because cleaning and tidying tend to be last on the list *eyes off the gigantic pile of clothes in the corner*…

But I’ve been trying to be more organised! First thing I wanted to take care of was my cupboard :D I have ranted quite a lot about my wardrobe because whoever designed it was a moron. It has 3 sliding doors, one of which opens to a wall which encases our water heater. The other two are divided by draws and storage cubes, either side of which is hanging space. Unfortunately one of those sides is useless because it’s not wide enough to put coat hangers in so out of 3 doors only 1 is useful >:(

…Anyway enough of the ranting, Nuffnang and Magnum are holding a competition where I’m supposed to tell you about my most indulgent fantasy, isn’t it sad that the first thing that came to mind was “a gigantic cupboard that could hold and display my things nicely” XD

So let me tell you a little story about my current cupboard, my most indulgent fantasy and what happens when you spend too much time organising your things…

Once upon a time Violet was trying to put her things in her cupboard but there was just no more room. She had been at it for hours to no avail.

Magnum Fantasy

She was no where near finished but was sooooo tired that she gave up.

So competition time!!

Magnum is having a competition for you guys and you could win AU$1000!

*EDIT* How to enter and the terms and conditions have completely changed! See below! */EDIT*

Here are the new instructions:

1. Play the Magnum dice game and try to obtain the highest score possible
2. Leave your highest score and answer the question, ”What will you indulge in with $1000?” in a comment. (The comment must include their preferred contact method in case they win [blog URL, Twitter or E-mail Address].
3. Competition period is running from November 24 until midday on Tuesday December 14, 2010.
4. The winner will be the entry deemed most creative across all 23 blogs taking part in this campaign (See Terms and Conditions for full list)
5. The winner of the $1,000 prize will be announced on Friday December 17, 2010.

**Please note, entries that have been submitted prior to this change will still be accepted and considered.

Terms and Conditions can be found at: http://www.nuffnang.com.au/magnum-terms-conditions/

So what would you all indulge in with $1000? Haha you all know my answer… new cupboards!!

Nuffnang Competition- Win a Barina Spark!

Nov 18, 2010 by

This post was sponsored by Nuffnang and Holden.
For more information on sponsored posts please click here.

I am all kinds of not a car person. Other than getting me from point A to point B via shopping at point C I couldn’t care how many horses were squished into the engine to make it go so fast.

James loves cars. Well not all cars, he loves classic (pre 1974) muscle cars. He used to spend hours telling me all about his 1963 Valiant with a bored out slant 6 engine with triple SU carburetors, racing needles and a torque flight transmission. Unfortunately  my mind tends to play this when ever he starts:

That’s why when Nuffnang approached me about doing this post about a new Holden Barina Spark my mind started playing a nice happy version of the “I Dream of Jeannie” song. I feel a little bit bad for Lynda for that phone call because I’m sure there was a long awkward silence as I day dreamed between the word “car” and “design your own” (which is what eventually snapped me out of it) XD

So as I eventually understood, this competition isn’t so much about cars as it is about creativity! I like being creative :D

A Mad Hatter’s Tea Party turned pink!

Oct 31, 2010 by

I don’t think I need to tell you all how much I love tea parties. I will use pretty much any excuse possible to hold one :D

So when the lovely Celeste mentioned she wanted to enter a Nuffnang contest about the Mad Hatter’s tea party I said “Come on over it’s tea time!”.

Some of you saw a teaser on Twitter on Saturday so here is a guest post by Celeste of what happened that day ^_^

<3 Violet

With the long weekend in sight, it was a perfect time to unwind.

And what better way to unwind than to have a beautiful tea party with the lovely Violet Le Beaux?

We all know that Tea Parties are the love and joy of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, in fact, our very own Violet was channeling a little bit of Alice today, with the long straight blonde hair and the black headband. Just needed a beautiful blue dress to go with it… Hmmmm wonder if we could swipe one from the Tim Burton exhibition?

I do so love Alice in Wonderland. But everytime I read through the book, I felt that the Mad Hatter’s tea parties always lacked a little something… Can you guess what it was that it lacked?

It lacked a little PINK, and a little Charm and was also sorely missing in some princess action.

So we changed it around, to make this tea party perfect! Starting with the adorable little pink tea pot, which was perfect for tea for two. Tea for the day was Rose and French Vanilla from Dilmah, very very yummy!

It’s not just teapots that need to be pretty. We polished our very best fancy tea set and coaxed the flower pixies to come out to play. You can’t just set a tea set down and call that a tea party! I mean, next you will be saying that merely having tea would be good enough!

Every single aspect has to be perfect. For the perfect tea party, you can’t go wrong with cake tea spoons. There’s more than one way to eat your cake, after all. Violet keeps a collection of such silverware beauties around for when princesses and maidens come round for tea. Which is quite often, as we do love our teas.

Just look at the amazingly beautiful hanky that Violet embroidered! Polite tea party conversation involved the ooh-ing and aah-ing over such delicate handiworks and there was much discussion on how we could add more pink to the world. Pink world domination! In the gentlest and most princess-y of ways, of course.

Pour out the tea, give it a swirl with your cake spoon, and you are ready to go! Tea Party to relax your weary souls, and something the Mad Hatter himself would have been proud of. Had he been a fan of pink of course. Oh, and of princesses. It’s not very Mad, but it was definitely very Rad.

And what tea party would be complete without nibbles and cakes? I brought along for us all, Chocolate and Coffee Fudge Cupcakes, don’t worry I’ll share the recipe with you soon. It was quite rich and quite decadent. Fit for a beautiful spring afternoon’s tea party.

We had a beautiful afternoon, having our very own tea party with a nod towards the Mad Hatter for sharing his love of tea parties with us. There’s really nothing more relaxing than having a girlie afternoon with your best girlfriend over some decadent cupcakes and amazingly delicious tea.

So, would you care to join us for a cuppa or two?

Keeping cool in style over the years… Nuffnang Competition!

Oct 18, 2010 by

This post was sponsored by Nuffnang and Panasonic Air Conditioning.
For more information on sponsored posts please click here.

Over the years I’ve gone through a whole lot of styles. I didn’t always like pink things, in fact when I was growing I was the biggest tom boy! I’ve been going through my wardrobe to clean out and make space for things and it’s kind of been like taking a journey back through time!

I’m pretty happy with my current style. It’s not perfect but I think it represents me pretty well where I am in my life right now. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Finalists in the Celebration Give Away!

Jul 28, 2010 by

Hi lovely readers!

I’m very excited to announce the finalists for my Celebration Give Away :D I couldn’t believe how many people entered and the quality of the entries made it really hard for me to choose the 3 for you to vote on, I even had to ask James to help me! So without further ado…

Celebration Give Away! -CLOSED-

Jul 17, 2010 by

*EDIT* This give away is now closed!! Thanks so much for all of your entries!! */EDIT*

Morning everyone!

This post is a day late but hopefully it will be worth it :D

I’ve been wanting to do a give away for quite a while now to celebrate a few mile stones but it didn’t seem like the right time until now. It’s just ticked over to more than 300 Google Friends, we’ve moved to a new exciting city, I’ve just opening my Store and there are some seriously big things coming up soon for my blog!

I’ve made so may new friends along the way and it makes me really happy that I’ve been able to meet some of you guys in person too! I’m really honored that you have all stuck with me and continue to read here <3

This blog has come a really long way since I started it and I hope it’s only going to get better from here ^_^

The thing is that every time I meet someone and they ask me to describe my blog I tend to fumble a bit and try to explain it. It can be difficult to explain the blog to people that aren’t into these things already >_<

So what I need is an elevator pitch and I’m having a competition to come up with it!

So let’s celebrate!

Why I love Nuffnang…

Feb 13, 2010 by

This Valentines day Nuffnang is giving it’s bloggers a chance to win a $250 gift voucher, so we thought what better way to spend Valentines Day but together attempting to win enough chocolate to keep us happily blogging away for a whole year. And so…

Once upon a time there were two lonely bloggers… they both loved pink and they both loved sparkles, they both loved anything fancy but they lived 1000 miles away from each other :(

The distance seemed insurmountable. They would never meet on a train, they would never meet at a supermarket… would their sparkly paths ever cross?

And then along came a little blue man… a Nuffnang man! He left them a little trail of digital bread crumbs to lead them to each other…

The bloggers were ecstatic! They finally had someone else to share their pink sparkliness with!

They shared similar academic pursuits…

Competition! Win Decoden Headphones :D

Dec 13, 2009 by

DSC_0013_091213_4625 copy

Well I promised you all a competition and here it is, win yourself some deco headphones!

To celebrate relocating my blog to my own domain I’m offering you all a chance to win the headphones I deco’d for today’s tutorial, all you need to do is spread the word about my new blog!

Decoden Headphones Tutorial – Day 7

Dec 13, 2009 by

Hello, today I have a tutorial on deco headphones!

Wow I can’t believe it’s already the last day of my super awesome week of tutorials! It feels like I’ve been at my new address for much longer and I’m loving it!

I’ve been promising a deco tutorial for ages, it was going to be my laptop but I decided to go with a smaller design to start off some of you guys that are beginners :)

The fun part about this tutorial is that you can win the end product of deco headphones, but more on that later!

So first you need some headphones! I bought these ones to do, they are just fairly standard ear buds, the only thing special about them is that the coloured outside bit clips on and you can change colour… cool idea but they only included one of each colour so you can’t have a matching set >_< I didn’t even notice until I got home!

Apologies that these photos are a little dark, James was out when I did it so I didn’t have his lighting/camera expertise!

The deco technique I’ll be showing you today is called paving.

DSC_0294_091206_4328 copy

I decided to make one headphone pink and one blue so I attached the corresponding colour clip.

So squeeze out an even amount of glue from each tube onto a piece of plastic. I just used the packet that some of my diamantes came in.

DSC_0300_091206_4322 copy

Using an orange stick mix the two bubbles of glue together. Make sure the consistency is even and it’s mixed well.

DSC_0301_091206_4321 copy

I’m going to put a bow on my pink headphone first so using the orange stick I apply a little glue to the back of the bow and also to the headphone where it’s going.

DSC_0302_091206_4320 copy

Hold it in place until the glue becomes tacky then allow it to dry completely.

DSC_0303_091206_4319 copy

Repeat the process on the other side. I decided to use a bead shaped like a heart on this one. Apply the glue…

DSC_0304_091206_4318 copy

Hold the jewel in place.

DSC_0305_091206_4317 copy

For paving you need a lot of jewels in different sizes. Rather than buying 1000 of each size if you are doing a small project like this check the scrapbooking section of your local craft store for pre-stuck designs like the photo below. It has many different sizes.

DSC_0306_091206_4316 copy

Because they already have a sticky backing on them, they’re fairly useless to glue, you’ll find that if you use the provided sticky back they will eventually slide off your item or if you glue them with the backing on they will still fall off because the glue isn’t touching the actual jewel. So you need to gently pull the sticky backing off… I stick it to my finger and use my nail to pry them free.

DSC_0307_091206_4315 copy

And you should be left with this:

DSC_0308_091206_4314 copy

Now for this project you need some larger coloured diamantes too..

DSC_0310_091206_4312 copy

To pick up the diamantes one by one I find the easiest way is using a match stick with a piece of blutac on the end. New blutac is too sticky so roll it on carpet or fabric first so it picks up some dust and isn’t as sticky ^_^ Other people I know use tweezers but I find that awkward.

DSC_0313_091206_4309 copy

Starting with the pink bud add glue to a small strip down the back.

DSC_0314_091206_4308 copy

Starting with the largest jewels again place a line of 3mm pink diamantes straight down the back.

DSC_0315_091206_4307 copy

While the glue around it is still wet fill in around the edges with tiny clear diamantes. The key to this looking good is to try to fill in every single little gap as much as you can. Wait for it to dry before continuing.

DSC_0316_091206_4306 copy

Once the back is dry continue on the side, place a row of large pink diamantes and fill in around it with clear. It’s kind of like making a mosaic, trying to find the right gems to fit the right spot.

DSC_0317_091206_4305 copy

When that side is dry continue around to the other side until the jewels meet in the middle, the entire thing should be covered. When you’re done it should look a little like this:

DSC_0318_091206_4304 copy

Now let’s start on the other side! The principle is the same, but this time use blue jewels instead of pink ^_^

DSC_0320_091206_4302 copy

Do the sides first and then keep going until the jewels meet in the middle.

DSC_0322_091206_4300 copy

Once everything is completely dry it’s time to tackle that last little white bit where the cord comes from…

DSC_0324_091206_4298 copy

Holding it by the ear piece cover that in clear diamantes.

DSC_0325_091206_4297 copy

So then leave it to dry! If you think it needs it, you can give the entire jeweled area a clear top coat. I don’t generally do it because if you are using acrylic jewels it can melt the top layer and make the facets of the jewel less obvious. If you decide to top coat then go with a quick dry clear nail polish. This is what you end up with when you’re done…

Name My New JVC Picsio Competition :D

Nov 24, 2009 by

Hey everyone, I have something a bit fun for you all today :D So as you would all know I’ve been doing some fun videos lately and to do them I had to buy myself a new video camera. I wanted something HD but small enough that I could just pop it into my handbag.

After much umm-ing and ah-ing and comparing of specs I decided to buy a JVC Picsio.

I think I made an awesome choice because not only is it cute, for a tiny little thing it’s good quality too. I’m going to leave the technical review to James when he gets a chance but if you want to read more here is a good review which compares all of the current mini HD cameras on the market.

The Perfect Vintage Christmas – Violet Vision

Nov 23, 2009 by

Good morning everyone, I’ve got another video for you all today and it’s on my version of a Vintage Christmas!

The delightful Super Kawaii Mama is having a competition at the moment and the winner will walk away with some absolutely beautiful prizes including gifts from Blue Velvet Vintage, For Luna and Notorious Kitsch!

So all you needed to do to enter is show what your Perfect Vintage Christmas would look like. Btw, how cute is the little banner she made for the comp below?

So because I’ve been a bit obsessed with my video camera lately I decided to make a video…

So I guess what I was trying to say is that my Perfect Vintage Christmas takes a lesson from the cliche 50’s and 60’s values as well as style ^_^

Hope you enjoyed my vintage Christmas video!

How to Indulge in the Uniquely Singapore Experience

Oct 1, 2009 by

Hey everyone! This is the second part of my Nuffnang Blog Awards competition entry. This one is all about Singapore!

So why do I deserve to go to Singapore? Well I don’t know if I deserve to go above all of the other entries as there have been some really awesome ones but I would really like to go! I’d love to actually get out of the house and meet some fellow bloggers in person for a change ^_^ The most important reason I would like to go is experiencing another culture! Singapore is completely different to Australia and I’d love to be able to meet new and interesting people.

The second part of this post is all about my perfect day in Singapore!

When you’re traveling you should always take comfortable shoes with you as you never know how much walking (or shopping!) you’re going to have to do. I find it really difficult to find comfortable shoes that are also really cute :(

So I made my own! I bought a cheap set of white runners from Big W for $25 and added glitter, pearls, diamantes and bows :D

I’m always doing photo posts on my blog so I thought I’d do something a little different this time so you can see things from the perspective of my new shoes ^_^

I like to look nice as much of the time as possible. So even when I’m flying I wear nice comfortable clothes. On my day in Singapore I’ll arrive at the airport looking cute as ever ;)

Sep 26, 2009 by

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to direct you all to my delightful boyfriend James’ entry to the Pringles competition!

It’s a stop motion animation about how Pringles save his day from being boring at great cost to their own lives ;)

If you enjoyed mine, his is about 13928409834 times better so go and have a look by clicking the link below <3

He seriously spent hooours taking all the photos to make that stop motion animation so he deserves some love!

Hope you’re all having a great weekend <3

It’s Krrunch Time ;)

Sep 24, 2009 by

Evening everyone! Nuffnang is having another competition to win tickets to the Regional Blog Awards.

For those who haven’t heard of the competition it’s basically to show how fun Pringles are and you have to use the word “Krrunch” in place of the word “fun”.

Anyway this is my entry, I hope you enjoy it!

Today has been a very boring day :(

There is absolutely nothing to do. It’s my day off so there’s not even any work to keep me occupied.

Vintage Roll Hair Tutorial (like Victory Rolls) and News

Sep 7, 2009 by

Hey everyone! How are you all doing? I have lots to report today, the biggest part of this post is going to be the hair tutorial that I’ve finally finished but other things first…

We’re doing this style today:

But first… remember the post I made about the Nuffnang Coles/Myer gift card competition? Well I won! I couldn’t believe it, I never win anything so this is awesome! They are sending out my $100 gift voucher so I’ll be sure to let you all know how I spend it ^_^

Don’t forget that Nuffnang is also holding the first annual blogger awards so if you enjoy reading what I write feel free to nominate me ^_^ and cross all your fingers and toes for me! I want to go to Singapore!

How to Turn $10 into about $700 Hime Gyaru Dress Style… Nuffnang Comp Entry!

Aug 24, 2009 by

This is the story of how I made a Hime Gyaru style dress for $10.

Ok ok ok ok ok ok so you were all waiting on the edge of your seats for this post right? I’ve received a surprising number of messages from you all desperate to know what I did… well here it is!

In my previous post I mentioned this competition at my advertising company Nuffnang (who rock). The general jist of the competition is that they sent us all a $10 Coles Myer Gift voucher and the blogger who spends it in the most creative or frugal way wins a voucher for $100.

Here is the story of what I did…

One night I was busy dreaming about how much I love clothes that make me feel like a princess. I love Hime Gyaru fashion and most of all I love Jesus Diamante clothing… but it’s notoriously expensive ;_; Dresses can cost as much as $1000 which a poor little graphic designer like me just can’t afford…
