Short Nail Art And My Nail Growing Pledge!

Sep 4, 2012 by

Once every couple of years I go through a nail growing kick. If I don’t have acrylics I always have short nails. Partially because I have naturally weak nails, partially because I am terrible with fidgeting/biting them and partially because I hate the idea that when one of them breaks I have to get rid of all of them.

Ok the real reason is that I have no self control. Like at all. None. Not even a little bit.

But I really want to grow them out again. I thought maybe if I make myself accountable to all of you guys I might actually do it!! In fact if any of you guys want to grow out your nails too we could all be accountable to each other. We can share tips, blog about it and measure our progress etc :D

So who’s with me?!

Leave me a comment if you want to join in and maybe we can do a weekly progress check. I can link any posts you make about it and do a heap of nail art too.

I’m going to grow them out starting right now, I’m feeling inspired!

As some more inspiration, here are some photos of nail art from the last time I grew out my nails. I was actually pretty successful so here’s hoping we can all do it this time!

  1. I am working on growing my nails out right now! Mine are just a little longer than yours are at the moment. I’ve never had long nails outside of acrylics, so I am super excited!!

Best of luck to you Violet. I have mine in an acrylic wrap now. They’ve finally grown out the tips I had a few months ago.

I play guitar and viola so I have to keep my nails short. I’ve played guitar since I was eight and viola since I was ten so I’ve actually have never had acrylics. But good luck with growing your nails out! (:

Violet, I’m totally with you on the growing my nails out ~ mine keep on snapping because I don’t take enough care of them. Nail & hand cream for the win! Plus, I use this awesome stuff called Revitanail when my nails start to get weak. This nail strengthener kicks butt! It’s pricey {$30.00 a bottle from Priceline! Eeek!} but totally worth it.

  5. Oh I would totally love to join you in your growing challenge! Unfortunately, as a nail blogger, my nails are already fairly long. Butts.
I look forward to seeing your progress though, I love all your nail arts! :D

  6. My nails are hard to grow because they crack so much. I don’t even do nail art that much! I’ll try to grown mine out with you :-)

  7. I’m in! I usually keep my nails long, but I have been letting them chip and they are all different lengths due to me not wanting to one breaking and me not wanting to clip the rest.

With winter coming for my part of the world, hand care will become a top priority for me.

Let show off out beautiful long nails together and work on creating amazing nail art!

Speaking of nail art! Your chinese new year designs were SO pretty!

im already with you i use to bite my nails so much till i saw my bestfriend had nice real nails now i only seem to bite them when im really stressed there pretty long now thats why i am exsided to get my first manicure coming up my nails are quiet a bit longer then yours but thats cause i have been doing this for a while now

  9. I dunno about “joining” but I’ll be happy to help keep you motivated!! My nails are SUPER strong and short nails drive me insane, so mine are already long (except for one that just broke last week). Right now they’re…about half an inch? So maybe I could be your inspiration! Or something. lol

  10. I am with you! I also bite my nails and really want to grow them out. However, as I also have NO SELF CONTROL WHATSOEVER the only way I can grow them is to keep them permanently covered up with fake nails for several weeks, until I have lost the urge to bite. So maybe my resolution should be to keep putting on fake nails and doing pretty nail art until I have longer natural nails underneath? I am so terrible that I have even bitten fake nails before (yuck), so although it’s not the best for the condition of my natural nails, it is still better than having nasty little stubs!

    • That’s how I used to grow them out too! Fake nails for the win! Also *cough* I’ve totally bitten fake nails before too *cough*… :D

  11. It took me quite some time to grow long nails, cbut after filing them oval shaped they really boomed! Cuticle cream really helped me too.
Good luck and I’m eager to see the process!

  12. I’m growing my nails too! I wish you good luck, I always gets to a point where it’s almost the ideal lengt and then they “break”. I just can’t help it

  13. Great job growing out your nails. It’s a tough thing to do!

I found the best thing to help me grow mine longer and stronger was to rub my nails twice a day with a Jojoba based Nail and Cuticle oil. I have a photo on my facebook page.

    Good luck! ~Ana

  14. I’m game! In fact, I’ll go give myself a starting manicure right now as mine are approximately 8 different lengths. Bad me. Very bad. My nails are weak as well, they peel, chip, and flake off in layers…I’ll give it a go with you though! :)

    • So inspired I actually didn’t procrastinate! Posted my first growing-out mani (which was hilariously messy and FAIL), so I’ll be posting my real one I’m rocking now tomorrow, lol!! Thanks for the inspiration, this is going to be fun!

    • XD that’s so funny, I feel like when mine get to breaking point I’ll have totally different lengths too!

Ahahah, growing nails, it’s even harder to do when you’re in school, especially with PE. XD Hope things go out great! Have you tried using clear nail polish strengthener? I’ve heard of good results from those…or envision yourself with perfect nails for motivation!

    • You’re right about school, it can be a pain if you’re writing or typing all day too. I love the clear strengtheners, they do wonders, haven’t tried visualising it but I’ll give anything a go!
