Hime Pigtails- Cute Hair Tutorial
Apr 5, 2010 by Violet
Hello! Finally what you’ve all been requesting, a cute hair tutorial on this style:
Seeing as I couldn’t think of a name for it, this hairstyle shall now be known as the Hime-Style-Gigantic-Curly-Piggy-Tails ^_^
Things you need for this particular cute hair tutorial ;)
So how long does your hair need to be for this style? I think that as long as you can manage the hime pouf yours should be long enough, really even with shoulder length hair you could do it, it would just look more like two fluffy balls ^_^ My hair has gotten quite long over the last year so I’m happy! Haha by the time I can afford extensions I won’t need them anymore *_* To start with, you should do a standard hime style pouf. If you need a tutorial on that take a look over here! I’ve been thinking of doing an updated tutorial on hime style hair which is more detailed but I have so many other posts waiting to be posted that it will have to wait a while. First step is to brush out the hair that is left down. Separate your hair into two even sections on either side of your head. I just do it loosely so I can make sure everything is even. After you are satisfied with the sections put them in higher pony tails just above and behind your ears. It should sit just below where the pouf starts like this: Taadaa! Add a bow and this by itself is a cute hair style! Plug in your hot rollers and allow them to heat up. Mine are Vidal Sasson and they’re super nice. Starting from the back, take the section of hair which is the tail of your hime pouf and apply your curl spray. I am using one by Tresemme which I find works quite well. Give it a quick brush through and roll it up with a small roller ^_^ Clip it into place being very careful not to put the weight on the pouf as you might destroy the hard work you already did! Now take the next section from the front and repeat the process. If you have a lot of different sized rollers like mine you should use the smaller ones at the front and bigger at the back. This is what you should end up with when you’ve used up all of the hair… Repeat on the other side! Done! Now hairspray the hell out of both sides. Wait for the rollers to cool completely. It takes around 20 minutes, I used the opportunity to catch up with you all on Twitter ;) When they’re completely cool start undoing the rollers. You should start from the bottom and work upwards. Again if you added a few bows this would be a cute style in itself ^_^ Again spray the hell out of all the curls! No such thing as too much spray! Ok now the fun part! Pick a curl randomly and use your brush to tease it. To get the correct effect you should hold a small section of the curl and use the brush to slide the rest of the curl upwards. This technique allows you to keep most of the length but the curls are really obvious and fluffy. See the difference between normal curls on the left and teased curls on the right? Repeat on both sides to all the curls and add more hairspray. Again you could just wear it like this with a few more bows XD This is like a tutorial with 5 different styles depending on how much time you’ve got hahaha! So that looks pretty cute but what we really want is to make the pig tails higher, hide the hair bands and give it even more volume. So have your bobby pins at the ready! Grab your pony tail and pull it upwards. Hold it to the side of your head straight up. Using the bobby pins you should pin the hair roughly 3cm above the hair tie. You will need a couple of pins to hold it all. You should be pinning it just higher than the start of your pouf. Make sure to do it securely because this is what’s going to be holding up all your hair! When you drop down the hair again it should look like this: The hair has much more volume and looks more fluid because it looks like it’s part of the pouf ^_^ This is what the back looks like, you can easily cover the pins with a big bow. Also you should probably do a better job of parting your hair in a straight line than I did ;P And the side: Finished! Hopefully you all found this helpful, once you get the hang of it, it’s a really easy style to do. Let me know if you want another cute hair tutorial like this! |

omg honey, i never even knew your hair was that long!!!!
its soo cute <3
Haha yeah it’s gotten so long over the last year it’s crazy! I grew it out from a chin length bob! <3 Thank you!
SO CUTE~!!
Thank you!
KAWAII DESU!~ ^^ so very cute…btw the necklace looks beautiful^^
Heehee thank you! I love that necklace so much too, anything with bling is good!
your hair colour is totally ridiculous-
Haha ridiculous good or ridiculous bad? Either way I love it ^_^
CUTE!! I have hot rollers too and never have much success with them. Boo – and why don’t they give you enough clips to cover all the rollers?
I might try out that Tresemme stuff – I use one of their 24 Hour Body sprays and it’s fantastic. SO awesome for how cheap it is. :-D
I totally know what you mean about not enough clips!! I fricking hate the metal ones, they are so useless >_< I would totally recommend the Tresemme spray, my hair *hates* to be curled, seriously it will not hold a curl at all anymore but the Tresemme really helps. It's fantastic for doing pin curls too :D
Yet again another fabulously in depth tutorial and showcasing how fabulous you are. Now I want to get hot rollers. You cruel cruel girl <3
XD It’s payback for making me want all of the comfy looking clothes in your Mori-gyaru post! Super love to you<3
Is it just me or do your eyes look much bigger in this post?
You really look like a doll now ^^
Aww thank you! I am actually wearing different circle lenses in this post (review is coming soon for them) and also I’ve done my make up in a more traditional hime style. There’s a tutorial coming for this make up soon too ^_^
dearie it’s adorable!! :) though i know i will never (and can never) be as patient to curl my ponytails section by section like that! hehe :)
:D Thank you! It can be quite tedious but once you get the the rhythm the pony tails are done in no time XD
Yay! The tutorial is here! (/^.^)/
You and your posts overloaded with cuteness :)
Yay! I hope it helped you all ^_^ Haha thank you very much!
AHH! SO KAWAII :)
:D Thank you! <3<3<3
omg so cute ur hair is so long!!!
:D thank you! It’s growing quite fast!
Oh my gosh I am even too lazy to do loose long curls sometimes like the girls do in Vivi let alone this! You’re amazing haha! I’ve always kind of wanted to do gyaru fashion like the Popteen girls but every time I flick through the magazines i’m like ‘well i’m not going to be bothered waking up 2 hours before just to do my makeup and hair!’. Actually slightly off topic, but I went to Japan two years ago and I put on makeup everyday but it’s very natural… I saw a lot of gyaru around Harajuku which I hung around a lot in and suddenly I felt really NAKED… like literally naked with my messy hair and my natural makeup!
Haha this is definitely not something I would do every single day but it’s fun for a special occasion! I wouldn’t wake up 2 hrs early either, I’d rather sleep! Haha I think being around well dressed people can make you feel self conscious about how you dress, it happens to be all the time!
very cute!! Love it!
I have curls of my own so I’m thinking if I could do this without the curling things.
Yep if you already have super curly hair you could easily do it just with the teasing ^_^
kawaiii :D
XD thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial, the hairstyle is so cute. I will try it out soon!
Yay let me know if you do!
That is soo cute! I was meaning to ask you, how do you pronounce ‘hime’?
Haha I’m kinda curious too, I’ve always said it as “He-Mey” with the ‘He’ part kinda like hee hee (as in when people giggle) Let’s hope I haven’t been making an utter dick of myself!
Yep you’re pretty much correct! With standard Japanese pronunciation (I am in way an expert btw just repeating what I was taught) it’s HEEMEH. I tend to slip into HEEMAY because of my Aus accent but you get the general idea :D Extra points if you can say it in an ultra KAWAII voice and make a peace sign :P
Hime being pronounced in the correct Japanese way is HEEMEH, the “hi” part is like the he in “he went fishing” and the “me” is like the first part of the word “mention” or “many”. Because I have a weird Australian cross other junk accent sometimes it comes out more like HEEMAY >_<
I assume you’re wearing circle lenses in these pictures? Your eyes look really big and pretty! Would you recommend the heated curlers? I really hate using a curling wand, I find that it just doesn’t do good enough of a job for how much your arm hurts after using it! I have a lot of trouble doing the back myself so I thought this would be a good alternative! Thanks for your many tutorials :P I re-made the epic cake for Easter and brought it into work, everyone was marvelling at it (I added some chocolate egg decorations) and saying it looked like something from Alice in Wonderland (err… not too sure what they meant by that though?!)
Yep I’m wearing new violet coloured lenses that I’m going to review soon! I *LOVE* them so much :D And yes I would totally recommend heated rollers, my hair hates to hold a curl but once I got the hang of these it works quite well. I would definitely recommend getting a good curling solution like the Tresemme one too, it really helps! I’m the same, I hate curling wands, they are just a paaaain to use and the curls fall out after 5min >_< These are actually better for your hair because they are gentle and you can have breakfast while you wait for them to cool :D Oh yay I’m glad the Epic cake was a hit!
Ok, gotcha! Now I get it:)
Loving your curls and your big dolly eyes!! :)
Thank so much Tabby!
That’s so cute! Thanks for the tutorial ^.^ I’m usually really bad at understanding hair tutorials, but yours are always really clear and easy to follow ^.^ I can’t wait for my hair to get long enough to try it :-P
I’m so glad you could follow it :D I much prefer to do tutorials like this in photos so you can see all the little details :D Let me know if you try it and good luck growing your hair!
Looks a little hard to do I think I’ll just skip this hair do & admire that someone actually knows how to do it ;)
Haha no problem, thanks for looking anywhere!
OMG! I really love that hair! So cute~ Where did you get the hot curlers? Are they expensive?
thankies
Anna
I bought mine from Myer, they were around $70 but you can get sets much cheaper online!
coolios~ Thanks for the info!! ♥
No probs!
actually I do have another question! ♥
Will different sized rollers make the curls look better or is it ok to use just one sized rollers?
thankies :]
Anna recently blogged about..Senior Boards & Old Fav Songs
I think one sized rollers are totally fine but it depends on the type of hair and length which size works best ^_^
