Tutorial- How to Store False Eyelashes in a Cake… yes a cake.

Mar 3, 2010 by

How to store false eyelashes? Challenge accepted.

It’s no secret, I love cake. No I don’t think you guys get it… I looooooove cake. So much so that the first thing I thought when I was trying to think of a way to store my false eyelashes was cake… and you’ll see why in a minute :D

If you’re anything like me you have a lot of lashes. Here in Aus they don’t come in the nice little trays, they come in stupid plastic packets which mean it’s really difficult to store and reuse them. My counter tends to look like this after a few days…

Very ugly, very messy and very unhygienic. So what to do? When I found this cheap craft storage box at a $2 store I had a great idea :D

  2. Esz

AWESOME! I love it! Best idea ever. You should totally continue with the sweet theme for all your other storage solutions :-D

    • Mwahahaha I think I will! I’m envisioning a gigantic layer cake that is actually a set of draws now :D

  3. well, aren’t you just the cleverest pussy cat around? This is an awesome idea! I love it!

  4. Thats totally cute! How do you open it when it’s in cake form though? I’d love a to see a pic with it open so I can grasp how it works.

    Super cute! I want one!

  5. wow this is so cute and creative!!

  6. where did you get it from in Singapore ? how much? tweet me :D

  7. This is such a good idea :) I tryed to use clay through an icing thing before but it did not work :(

    • You have to water down the clay a bit, this one comes at the right consistency already but if you are just using normal paper clay you must do it yourself. Also make sure to use paper clay not air drying clay etc or it won’t work ^_^ Maybe try the acrylic paste it’s really easy to use :)

  8. Gah! Violet, your storage ideas are just adorable. I’ve got to try this, I’m getting too many lashes not to!

    • Aww thank you so much Victoria! And thank you very much for linking me in your post :D I am so obsessed with lashes, I got a nice order from Bodyline too, it’s too cheap not to!

  9. Jin

This is so adorable! I have been looking around for paper clay. Where did you get it in Singapore? Need to ask my sister to send me some hehe.

    • Paper clay can be hard to find, I got mine from Kinokuniya in Orchard Rd but I know you can order it online from Etsy, just do a search for Deco Supplies and some should come up! Thank you!

    really great idea

  13. haha! I was thinking how could she make a cake out of it, you have to be able to open the lids!
use it upside down … very clever :D
Really cute! I don’t have any falsies though (well I do, but they’re not for me but for my poppets…)
now I feel an urge to get decorating again! T_T (all the stuff is at home and I’m on my dorm)

    • Haha definitely upside down is best :D That sucks that your craft things are at home, maybe you could just get something small for 1 project at a time or something ^)^

  14. Rebecca

I absolutely love this idea! I have tons of lashes and have been wary of buying more because I’ve run out of room to store them. Definitely going to be finding one of those cases! Thank you!

    • That’s exactly why I came up with this! I was running out of room and I desperately wanted more because I’m a lash addict ;) Heehee good luck and if you try it out send me some photos :D

  18. I love your blog and all the cute stuff and tutorials!! <3 Much love from a fellow kawaii lover!! ^___^ I have a kawaii jewelry shop, please visit sometime! xo zefora.etsy.com

    • Aww thanks very much for reading and commenting! I’ll definitely have a look at your store, thanks for the link :)

  19. This is adorable! Now I just need some falsies… I recently had to throw most of mine away because they were getting dirty and old so now i’m left with nothing. On the bright side I just made a huge Japanese cosmetics order from Taiwan yay (let’s ignore the dark side of that: i’m considerably poorer) and i’ll definitely need a case for my new lashes.

And thanks so much for linking my site! I can’t wait to come back blogging… just two more weeks to go. These few months have gotten me really acquainted with the feelings of ‘panic’ and ‘complete and utter fear’. Sigh.

    • Oh you had to throw the out? I’m always so sad when I have to say goodbye to my falsies. Haha I think I get too attached to them! Yay for cosmetics orders though! I hope the exams are going really well, I bet you’re worrying about nothing and you’ll get straight A’s!

  20. Mia

That’s such an awesome idea! I love it!

I just don’t understand one thing, though:

“Also if your collection is bigger than 8 pairs (like mine is) you can just add more layers to your cake underneath”

If you add more layers to the cake, how are you supposed to open the lids?

    • Thanks Mia! Ok what I meant was if you need more than one layer you would just make the same cake again but without the decorations on top, just decorate the sides. Then you can stack them like a layer cake, you wouldn’t glue them together in any way, just rest them on top of each other… does that make sense? If you have anymore questions just let me know ^_^ Maybe I’ll make a second tutorial on how to make stacked cakes!

  21. rumtum

OMG! how did you even think of something so cute? It looks super yummy!!! nevermind about storing your fake lashes in there.. i’d hv eaten it if it was edible!! :D

just a thought, is there anyway that the clay would hardened up really well for it to be made into cute little accessories? :)

    • Ahahaha! I was very tempted to eat but but I think maybe that would have caused some problems down the line ;) Yep the clay does harden enough for cute accessories I’ve made a billion of them… that’s all in another post :P

  22. amazing as always! <3 I do so need to make a cake for my falsies, too! xD

  23. hey lovely! is it alright if i link your post to my blog http://www.youngchicandsocial.blogspot.com?

  24. B

    Amazing! Such talent! xxx

  25. Loli

I can’t seem to find one of those containers anywhere! :( Mustn’t be a huge demand for them in Canberra!

I’m just wondering if you could maybe let me know the dimensions (just diameter and maybe the height approximately) so I might be able to find something online?

    Thank you in advance

    • Hey Loli ^_^ I found mine at a crappy discount store but maybe try Spotlight or another craft store? It’s the kind of thing you’d probably find to store beads in. The height is 2.5cm and the diameter is 10cm, hope that helps! <3

  26. Gahh.
    You’re so creative.
    OFF TO THE CRAFT SHOP!

  27. Carmela
