I've never heard of mochi being made from flour, always did it with cooked rice, how easy is that! I want to try this with anko, mmm. Now that thought got me craving a good an pan, aaaah!

  4. I had such s craving for these all last week. I ended going to the shop that originally invented these (in a place called Akebonobashi in Tokyo). I ate 2 and then smiled for the rest of the day!

When you come to Tokyo you should go to that shop!!

  5. yummmmmmmmmmmm

  6. Wonderful! I've only ever had mochi ice cream, so this should be fun to try.

    Saffie- Blobs indeed :P

Kae- I look for aaaages for a steamed rice recipe for this but nothing I found was exactly like I remembered. I thought that was the only way to do it to but hurray for a trusty microwave to the rescue! Lazy people like me can now make mochi in 10 min! Oh and the anko tastes AWESOME with this recipe. Make sure you post your results! Gif for the win XD

Clockwork- Thanks, oh they were to die for!

KatieB- Yes I'll have to drop by that place next time I manage to get to Tokyo (hopefully soon). Mmmm so yummy.

    Nails-In-Aus- Oh yeah.

Stargirl- Mochi icecream is so yummy! I wish they were more flavors available here, I'm not a fan of coffee and that seems to be the only thing I can find!

  17. Looks very tasty!! I am expecting some rice flour every day now I’ll receive through a swap, I am sooo going to make these !!
(although I think I’ll replace the strawberries with chocolate or apple ’cause winter is no tie for strawberries)

    • Oh these would be great with apple! I’ve seen them with peanut butter too but I don’t like those ones. Good luck making them!

  18. ichigo

I loved them! But my mother kept yelling at me that I’d get sick off of “raw dough” How silly is that? Mine looked like little overweight ghosts! :D

    • XD Raw dough! That’s hilarious! I can totally picture little overweight ghosts, I like to draw little faces on mine sometimes :D

  19. Hello dear Violet,

First: i totally adore your blog its so kawaii!
Second: i love your gyaru look, its so professional, because many people try this look and it ends up in a mess^^
and third: a little question of myself: you add all the ingriedients toghether and then if you do it in the microwave the dough is no longer raw?? i dont understand that (>////w<)
    Greetz, Marina

    • Hi Marina! Thanks so much for commenting ^_^ I’m so glad you’re enjoying my blog and thank you for the lvoely compliment! Yes you add the ingredients together and stir it all together, then putting the dough in the microwave actually cooks it and makes it much harder. It turns the liquid into dough if you get what I mean? I hope that helps and do let me know if you have any more questions or suggestions! Thanks for reading <3

  20. I’m making these at the moment! ^^ I didn’t use the whole 2/3 cup of water ’cause it was like honey consistency already, hope that won’t mess it up. I wonder, how long do these last? (’cause I’m at my dorm and I want to take some home for my family)

    • They are best if you eat them straight away, I like them warm. That said I think you could keep them for a few days :D I hope they taste yummy!

  21. Angela

I want to make these but can you use other fruits besides strawberries?

    Like mango, lychee and etc..

    Thank you very much

    • You probably could but because the fruits you mentioned are quite slippery it might be hard to wrap the mochi around it :)

  22. Jinfeng

I know this post is kind of old but i used you recipe to make ichigo daifuku just yesterday and i would like to thank you for this adorable yet extremly useful tutorial. to be honest it did take me some time to find out what size a “cup” for baking is (i’m from germany. we just weigh everything for baking ^^), but after finding out it has the exact volume of 250 ml i was ready to go.

so thank you very much, those things turned out great and they were sooooo yummy!

    • Hi! just a quick tip, I’m from Belgium and it also took me quite some time to find out what a ‘cup’ size is but you can also just take a cup out of your cabinet and use that. It doesn’t matter if that one is 250 ml or not, it’s just the ratio of 1/3,2/3 and 3/3 that matters ;)
Riechan recently blogged about..My first Con Made in Asia

    • Oh I didn’t know other countries didn’t have the “cup” measurement! I’ll have to update the post! Thanks so much for letting me know and I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe :D

  23. Mims

hahaha I have two baskets of strawberries, now I know what to do with them! Love your blog <3
